I hate how almost every damn game looks really good in the trailers and preview but near the release the negatives pile up, it's like Ultimate Tenkaichi all over again. No vs CPU just kills it for me.

I'd be kinda pissed, if I owned a Vita. It's not like it'd be the first portable Dragon Ball with both voice tracks selectable.

I see where you're coming from with that, but I don't think not having vs CPU is quite the same as not having much of a game to play except rock, paper, scissors. Other than that, it's pretty much the same game it looked like since the demo came out.

Wait, so there's really no V.S. CPU? So...literally, the only way to really play the game outside of the story mode, is...to play it online? ...*sighs*

I really want to be interested in this game since it seems to be so different to previous entries, I really want to look forward to playing it eventually...but all of this online focus is really starting to kill my curiosity.

Heh! People are THAT desperate for a vs Mode while other online based games like Call of Duty(just an example), Battlefield, and other ones get praised for just having online? Please! Sure, I'm also bummed that there is no versus mode too, but let's not forget that this isn't a fighting game like the others. It's more like a brawler. I just wish this was more like Sagas because of the concept of it. It could've been an improved one, but hey I see where the company is going with this. Online is taking over the world, baby!

Also, what would be the difference if the game would have a VS Mode when the mission mode's the same thing? Just make the mission mode worthwhile and that's it. Look at games like Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Battlefield, etc.

Why are you comparing CoD to DB do you realise that the target audiences for both games are pretty much exactly the opposite?

Dragon Ball fans like to play offline because it allows its replayability, play with friends locally and avoid players who're constantly spamming the same attacks online.

Super Smash Bros. is a popular brawler but is it an only online game? Nope. It focuses more on local than online, which is the right thing to do.

Multiplayer eventually dies so making a game to be played always online is an awful idea.

See, that's just it - that's a big part (though not the only one) of why I have next to no interest in those games. I live in an area where even the best internet isn't really all that fast, and the connection can more-often-than-not be fairly shitty. It's all I can do to get longer (like five minutes and longer) Youtube videos to load without them looking bad. I can't even imagine how bad it would be trying to play a game online here, and based on the podcast talking about this game's demo, it would make the experience suck for others too.

I'm not against there being an online mode. There should be, that is where just about everything is heading. But that doesn't mean there shouldn't be an almost equal playability offline too. And saying that we could just play the story mode over and over, this is true, but...that's what makes all the other games get old fast.

It may not be a traditional fighting game but it still fills most of the boxes for the genre. A major appeal of many fighting games such as Street Fighter, Tekken, Naruto, Mortal Kombat etc is being able to choose both the controlled characters and the opponents. If you take this away, you also take a basic and important part of the enjoyment of this sort of game. It also removes much of the replayability, and if you wanted to pit Freeza vs Whis or something like that, you simply can't.

Also the online will be dead after a little while and we will be left with only the same preset battles against the same opponents in the same stages. I had trouble finding good matches in the demo and Ultimate Tenkaichi was deserted not long after it was released.

Taking away small but essential features can ruin the experience.

*shrug* Ya can't please everyone. And those days are kinda dead now to most players. Sure there are still some people like that, but it ain't what the majority is anymore. Luckily this game won't allow players to power up.
dbboxkaifan wrote: Super Smash Bros. is a popular brawler but is it an only online game? Nope. It focuses more on local than online, which is the right thing to do.
Meh, I dunno what else to call the game then, cuz it's sure not a fighting game in many people's eyes.

Wow...sorry to hear that, but my point still stands.

*shrug* Well that's why they allow us to choose different characters for the story events. At least this game isn't based on just a few characters this time. Heck I remember back when I played Budokai 2, I spend most of my time with the dragon world because of the multiple choices and alternate endings, and it seems that this game will be the same, only difference is that it doesn't have the chess.

Its because Namco is trying to copy COD and Battlefield because they want to cash in on that online mutiplayer success...

Great, how original it's not like almost every single other major game company has copied COD or Battlefield, *sigh* this is ruining the game industry.

This makes me wonder how better this game would be better recieved if it was on PC. Specially with all the no-vs-cpu and no offline multiplayer thing.

The fact that there's no Vs CPU mode in this really bothers me. It's a given mode in any fighting game. If Injustice: Gods Among Us didn't have a VS CPU mode (Thank goodness it does) I would not have enjoyed that game because I couldn't create fun match ups like The Joker vs Deathstroke.

The way I see it, Battle of Z was not designed to be future proof. This is a game thats meant to be hyped up at the very beginning when it launches, so that everyone can hop on the mutiplayer bandwagon, and then a couple months down the road the game becomes boring and no one is playing on the online mode anymore.

But thats ok! Because Namco Bandai will just release another DBZ game next year with the same formula as the previous.

Games like Super Smash Bros. has a huge following to them because those games were built to last, because Nintendo only makes 1 Super Smash Bros game once every 5 to 6 years. But thats ok because that 1 game is enough to satisfy those Super Smash Bros fans for years to come.

Recent DBZ games were not designed this way. They get boring fast, the replay value is low, to the point of being cash ins.

I am happy that Namco Bandai is at least giving more time to devs for making dbz games now (Boz had the longest dev time than any other dbz game than recent memory) but this is still not the direction i think the series should go in. If you don't have flipping internet Boz is completely useless, games should not be designed to be so dependent on the internet this much.

There technically is still a vs. CPU mode, it's just story mode. You can still have all the whimsical match ups you want by picking the right mission and then picking whatever character strikes your fancy. For those who aren't competitive, there is online co-op as well. I have no delusions about the game being a masterpiece, but my time with the demo has intrigued me enough to pick this up come next week. It's just a completely different kind of game than the ones you normally expect from this franchise and reminds me a lot of Legends. It's kind of fresh.

In other news, bandai namco has released a few videos showcasing different team combinations:

"Fast-Attack Balance Team"

"Team Tricky"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xGmydSVEbM

"Team Taiyō-Ken (Solar Flare)"

I get what you mean but you have no control over the opponent team; so if you want to fight a specific combination of characters which is not available in mission mode, you can't.

I had high expectations for this game seeing it could've had similar gameplay to Tenkaichi Tag Team, Zenkai Battle Royale and/or J-Stars Victory Vs but it's actually inferior to all of these.

Two years wasted on this game congrats, Namco Bandai.

Most of us can agree on one thing though. This game at least blows Ultimate Tenkaichi and "Hurricane Kinect" out of the water.

Anyway, here's a second review of the game. http://www.pushsquare.com/reviews/psvit ... attle_of_z

Not bad, that'd be the same score I give the game myself.

Those screens of the game from PSV don't look bad after all being on a smaller screen does make it look better.

7/10 is an okay score, was expecting either 6.5/10 or a 7.0/10 as this game doesn't deserve any higher.

 It's not like 7=bad. 7=good. And this is the very first 8 player Dragon Ball game. I hope they make a sequel for PS3 and/or PS4. :D
