As you're well aware most of the UK fans already got the series and films by importing the R1/R2J so this really isn't anything new nor would those bother support it because, A) they've already got it or B) it's an inferior release to what they have.

Good luck to Manga UK trying to keep up with the bricks.

I came across this today on Manga UK's twitter.

If they weren't doing well they wouldn't have this kind of exposure outside of the anime section. And the fact that the Blue Bricks have been region 1 only until now means that they'll have that extra advantage that the Orange Bricks didn't.

Not to seem like a troll-bait comment but all those DVDs sitting on the shelves doesn't look like it's going that great, maybe perhaps of the price people aren't willing to pay for, however, if it were £14.99 or less it'd sell.

I'm surprised they're not selling these, at least they're not shown in that photo.

These DBZ Singles look better than the DBZ Seasons.

But Manga UK have stated on a number of occasions that they've sold really well. And if they hadn't they wouldn't be out in the open like that. In HMV those sections are used for popular releases. If they weren't doing well they'd be limited to the anime section only. And they wouldn't have bothered stocking so much of the series at once. First you claim that they're doing badly because you've never seen them in store and now you say that they're doing badly because they're filling the shelves. Either way they can't win. It seems to me you're just determined to hate them because they're the Orange Bricks.

The UK Singles were created solely for the DVD sections in supermarkets, unfortunately to my knowledge they cocked up the one supermarket deal they could have had so now they're just on their website. That said, HMV could still stock the singles, just in the children's section and as far away from the OBs as possible so not to cause confusion and oversaturate the market before DB and GT even come out. And I'm sure HMV will reduce the OBs down to £15 by the end of the year, especially as the Blue and Mustard Bricks come out. Also, do you think that since the UK Mustard Bricks are using the Japanese GT logo instead of FUNi's, will the Blue Bricks follow suit? I remember the EU version of DB Advanced Adventure used the Japanese cover art while the US version had its own cover, probably designed by FUNi to make it look more like Z.

I live in the city in which that photo was taken and can tell you myself that the HMV in Nottingham (the one pictured) has had the OB's in and out of stock since they were initially released, they started with just a couple of copies at the back of the store and now the demand has caused an influx of stock resulting in a few shelves full of the series.

Expectable. We've never had a domestic release of our own until now, and even if we got the dog's dinner out of the lot, us Brits have been starved of one of the few 'mainstream' anime series (in the eyes of the general populace) so of course it would sell after we finally get it.

It's certainly a possibility. Although DB Advanced Adventure came out here about a year before the US got it so it was understandable for the UK to get the Japanese cover in that case.

Definitely, there are going to be adults buying it for nostalgia; fans buying it to support the franchise; parents buying it to get their kids into it; and kids watching DBZ Kai buying it as there is no domestic Kai release. I think that a lot of fans underestimated the reception a domestic release of Z would get in the UK.

Despite this, I dunno how marketable the OBs are to kids since they're uncut, meaning all blood and Master Roshi pervy scenes are left in, the bigger problem (at least in my eyes) being Roshi.

Ah yeah, forgot about censorship and stuff. Well the OBs are still only PG, as are the upcoming GT sets and presumably the Blue Bricks too (which is more questionable considering the pervy humor is definitely more prominent in DB), I think the UK is pretty relaxed when it comes to censorship and ratings anyway, we are the country that churned out the likes of A Clockwork Orange after all.

Some of the OBs are 12. Also I would agree with you on the relaxed censorship but then again we have Ofcom. Thanks to them, we will likely never get Toonami back since it's not appropriate for Cartoon Network in Ofcom's eyes.

I highly doubt they'll change any content from the US release, the sets will just be age-rated appropriately. I'm assuming that even the first season won't score a 15?

Also, only sort-of on topic: has anything been mentioned about that "complete series" set of DBZ that was mentioned a while ago?

Does Manga UK provide reversible covers with and without the age rating?

If the original Dragon Ball DVD sets are a copy of Madman then I'll definitely be buying them but also would like to hide the rating they think it deserves.

Why's that? Almost all DVDs here having age certificates on the covers and spines.

But for Dragon Ball the age ratings are just inaccurate to me, so I'd rather hide them if possible.

Welp, it's official now people. Would still like to know if they end up using Madman's footage, though. I'd be very interested if they are.

I was expecting it to be 2 boxes like the Saga Collection from Madman is, and this is just so disappointing... -.-

Since these not so good news have been revealed then I might not pre-order it like I was going to initially, and to make matters worse they'll be using the wrong covers for the collection (Season covers).

Dammit Manga UK.

Same was actually proper excited until the moment they mentioned "5 collections". I do not want to dip 5 times and I am having shelf space problems as is. Might just import the Madman one's, do they have same region code for DVD's too(as their Blu-Ray region is B too)?

The Madman boxes are PAL format so I'd assume to be compatible R4/R2.

So let's see each costs the standard price of £24.99 for all 5 collections it'll be £124.95 and the Madman 2 boxes are around £96 which is the better deal? That's right Madman's.

I'll avoid Dragon Ball DVDs from Manga UK but they still have some interesting other anime series up for sale.
