I disagree. "Beers" is perfectly logical, by the reasoning that the originally intended "virus"-pun is completely irrelevant to the character we ultimately got. He was originally named Birus specifically because he was meant to have some virus-related traits. This got completely omitted from the final story. So why does the fact that he was initially meant to be named Birus even matter at this point? I mean, if one wants to acknowledge that then fine, but I don't think calling him Beers makes any less sense than using Beerus. It all just comes down to whether one wants to preserve the originally intended virus-pun, Toriyama's misinterpreted beer-pun that actually makes far more sense in the final script, or both. I would argue that the first option is indeed silly because again, irrelevant to the final story, but I consider both Beerus and Beers to be equally valid.
Beerus is actually more related to a virus than to beer if you ask me.
Something dreadful that's sleeping and that you might not even notice until it's woken up / activated and spreads destruction.

So I'd accept anything that takes his truly viral and "supreme danger to avoid" nature into account, whether it's only about the obvious virus part or it's both the virus part and Toriyama's mistake about alcohol (which is the best solution since that way, the name encompasses both his "ultimate sleeping danger" nature and his duo with Whis).

But I'm afraid most translators, because of Whis, will immediately conclude "oh, he must go with Whis, this is a pun on beer to go with whisky" and not think further, when the virus thing is so obvious and so symbolic of the character's nature that I don't even know how it was possible to interpret it any other way when reading "Birusu". If it was "beer", there wouldn't be a mandatory "s" anyway and it would likely have been "biru", right? Seeing "biru", I would have thought of "beer". But seeing "birusu", it always and immediately seemed obvious to me that it was "virus" (pronounced "veerus" unlike the English pronunciation and more like the word in other countries) and nothing else, a virus being a god of destruction on computers.

I say congrats to the official English version for having likely noticed all that there is to his name (did they read Kanzenshuu?!) and giving him the perfect "Beerus" name to satisfy every side: the way his name was created and represents him so well, AND the author's cute goofy mistake leaving a mark.

Not too long ago I watched Battle of Gods with my good friend (who is also an avid fan of Dragon Ball). He really enjoyed the heck out of it and really appreciated the humor and spectacular fight scenes (as I originally did as well). When we finished he commented to me that he'd love to see a new movie get put out every 2-3 years and he'd be happy with that. I think that a lot of people would be ecstatic with that kind of set up, and it would avoid having to air another series that might result in Dragon Ball exhaustion. The point of my post is to say then, bring it on with more movies Toei!

I mean, whether Jesus is real or not, he - he's had a bigger impact on the world than any of us have. And the same can be said for Bugs Bunny and - and Superman and Harry Potter. They've changed my life - changed the way I act on the earth. Doesn't that make them kind of real? They might be imaginary but, but they're more important than most of us here. And they're all gonna be around here long after we're dead. So, in a way, those things are more realer than any of us.

I think it would be a great way to have a proper continuation, especially with Toriyama being involved.
Toriyama doesn't like to be a prisoner of Dragon Ball for long and was tired of drawing too much.
I think he would be glad to be the story/design guy for a 1h30 movie every 2-3 years, letting the anime staff to draw and animate it all. He already said he liked working on Battle of Gods if I'm not mistaken, we can guess why: that takes away all the burdens he disliked about his work and leaves him only focusing on what he truly liked, creating the designs and the story/dialogues. (again, if I'm not mistaken about his statements in various interviews).

I think it's entirely possible that it'll turn out to be that way because of the success of the movie, and also because Whis talks about being back in three years at the end, which I take as a nod to real-life time.

So I take it that no one has seen my post from 4 pages ago regarding the Taiwanese bluray release of "DBZ: Battle of Gods".
For those wanting to check it out, screenshots of the Taiwanese packaging can be seen at the following link.

http://www.post76.com/x2/forum.php?mod= ... D1&page=32

It doesn't look like there are English subtitles but they have made some improvements over the Hong Kong release. Trailers are included as special features, and it comes with a couple of postcards.
The world is your's.

Akira Toriyama creates Gine (ギネ), Son Goku's mother. It's been published in the "Super Kanzenban" interview: http://www.misiontokyo.com/noticias/136 ... e-son-goku ¡Confirmed! The design will be presented in the collected volume of Jaco.

It's seems a little random to reveal her identity now. But it was also random for Toriyama to create other unseen characters not even mentioned in the manga, such as King Tchapah's wife, sons and daughter or Ran-fan's boyfirend Trunks.

Gokû's mama? That's so random and awesome!
*Wonders if she'll have Raditz hair.*

What's Gine a pun on?

Saiyan's names are based on English words for vegetables in the manga.

Carrot is ninjin. Vegeta comments in that cooking hell song that it sounds like the word for person (ningen).

I was more or less asking for the spelling I know it's similar to Kakaort. I'm terrible at English. I'm asking what's more similar. Japanese spelling or English Carrot.
