Call me a sellout, but I might just get these. As much as I disliked the first one, I kinda want 2&3 to complete the cover art at least. I'm not completely opposed to the widescreen, but if they fix the filtering artifacts, I think it would be worthwhile to collect the series at this price.
C'mon man, fight the urge, that's exactly what FUNimation's plan is by releasing such a cheap set! You get what you pay for!
Hopefully the Season BDs will make customers move to Blu-ray for good and show a sign of FUNimation to discontinue the Season DVDs but I wouldn't bet on that.
Hopefully? There are still people without BD players, and not only that, but I think the later orange bricks are better than these BDs will ever be.

$17 for the set? We're hitting roughly the 50 cent per episode price point now? Sheesh! It'll be interesting to see if it stays there (and for how long).

With these prices it's kind of hard for people to miss out on this considering how cheap they are.

Oh that is such bull crap! I could have saved a few dollars had I waited :P I wonder what's causing the prices to drop like this? Since I no longer own the orange bricks I'll gladly give them 17 dollars per boxset. :D

Supply vs Demand. Not sure if 16 in stock counts as too much supply though. On another note, the price for season 3 got slashed and it's not even out yet.

I've been thinking about getting the orange bricks for a while, especially the Manga UK ones, but now I'm tempted to buy these. If I buy them and they then get a UK release, though, I'll regret it.

Doubt it. Manga has always slow with everything especially Deagon ball stuff. We still haven't even got Kai. Besides they'll ruin the blu ray by slapping their logo all over the place and the silly bbfc ratings, aswell as the lack of slip-cover.

Got an e-mail just telling that season 2 has been delayed till early March, checked FUNImation's shop and it figures. However, Season 3's date is still AF day for the time being anyway.

This doesn't surprise me at all actually. It seems like Funimation very rarely meets their initial street dates anymore. I suppose that's fine because in the end it makes for a better product (usually, anyway) but still you'd think they'd know by now when to set a more accurate street date so that they wouldn't have to keep pushing back their release dates.

Exactly. If you can avoid Manga UK releases then do it because they really don't care about packaging or their fanbase but rather that they sell it regardless of its quality.

Really? I don't have any of their orange bricks but I thought the packaging looked better than the US ones from what I've seen :/

The US Orange Bricks are in card-boxes and the older prints came with books, in comparison to the UK Orange Bricks they're fat-packs with the covers and discs.

Manga UK didn't even bother to make slipcovers for the early prints because the fat-packs would've look a lot better inside them, than just plasticky cases themselves.

Well, I think the fat-packs are better in the long run (they don't wear from normal use) but the books and maybe slip covers would have been nice.

Those late Brick DVDs look great (yes, I said great) on my Plasma TV, added with the PS3's awesome built in scaler, I'd say they look friggin amazing. I don't think we'll ever see the Boo/late Cell Saga look this good again for a long time.

Metalwario64 @ I'll agree that the later Season DVDs (8 & 9) have fantastic picture quality to the point of looking even better than the Dragon Box Z but for the early Seasons DVDs? The Season BDs are a serviceable replacement for this.

If you're looking for the Saiyan Saga in HD, then the Levels are a much better buy. I can understand looking to buy the Namek/Freeza Sagas since they're the most rare and expensive to buy, but with the Level Sets still floating around I see no reason to buy Season 1. This doesn't apply to the casual audience since I know they're looking for episode-count per disc and "Widescreen".

You'd still be missing out on the episodes 034-039 but for those that live in US they can get the entire Season 1 in HD 1080p 4x3 AR on digital format but importers can't.

Let's just hope there's a 2015 DBZ BD release coming up. Fingers crossed for an NGE BD/DVD release too of the series (it's been too long out of print).

Finally managed to get my hands on Season 1 of the new Blu-ray set. I'm currently away at school so I've only been able to watch it with my wife but I do really enjoy the cleaned up audio. When I go back home in summer I have a feeling that my good friend will really appreciate this high definition treatment of the series (especially since his go-to audio is the English dub which sounds immaculate!). It's a good bit of fun switching from this Blu-ray set to the dragon boxes and almost makes it seem like an entirely different show at times.

For the life of me I can't figure out why FUNI hasn't tried to bring the Jump Special, the new movie (BotG), the DB Dragon Box, the GT Dragon Box or the movies Dragon Box over to the US. Why do they keep pushing Z? I'm betting the movies box would sell well since it's still Z.

The only thing that comes to mind is they want to move away from DVD and push BluRay - which isn't a bad thing, but still... even DBox the movies upscaled on Blu would be fine.

As of right now, Season 1 has shot up to $31.16 while Season 2 is STILL $40...(Pissing me off) and season 3 is down to $17!!!!! Lol I don't see the logic but season 3 is pre ordered and waiting for price to drop on season 2... That's what I'm saying! I'm getting tired of buying the Z series all the time! How many times have I bought and re-bought it? I think I'm gonna stand by my post when I said this new Blu-ray release and the Boo saga of Kai will be my last purchase of the Z series.
I would love for Funimation to remaster the movies like they did the level sets. or release Dragon-boxes for the movies/original series/GT. or like you said bring us over the Jump special or the new movie JUST SOMETHING NEW! :P
