Only partly. Popo's lips are censored, the translation is still the same as the vizbigs, though I think the font was changed. Regarding nudity and violence, I'm not sure.mikezilla2 wrote:so are these uncut ?

From what I've seen after looking through the first volume, Popo's lips appear to be the only censoring I've seen as far as the art is concerned.KentalSSJ6 wrote:Only partly. Well, there isn't much nudity in this part of the series. So no censorship in the shotgun, Goku's death, etc?Freeza Soldier #156 wrote:From what I've seen after looking through the first volume, Popo's lips appear to be the only censoring I've seen as far as the art is concerned.KentalSSJ6 wrote:Only partly. The only censorship that Viz currently does in the Z portion of the manga is regarding Mr. Popo's lips, Gohan's penis, #17's gun and the riffles of those thugs in the Buu arc. There's currently no censorship at all in the first volume, besides Mr. Popo.

So the shotgun is OK, the riffles and guns aren't. I don't mind Gohan's penis being censored (as long as it is well censored) but Mr. Popo is THE proof of the American double-sided moral code we all love.

Re: Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussi
They didn't actually remove the riffles, they just altered them a bit so that they looked less realistic and more futuristic. And they were used to kill an old couple in cold blood sniper-style, so its a different situation from farmer with a shotgun. Not that I'm defending the censorship, I'm just explaining their logic.UltimateHammerBro wrote:So the shotgun is OK, the riffles and guns aren't. And the next volume, it was back to a regular machine gun. Kinda makes me wonder if they ever do develop lazer blasters, what will happen then?
Umm, rereboy, I've noticed you've brought up that instance a lot, so was wondering were you mad about censors, or mad because you couldn't see boobies? And how is it in actual Japanese, as I've seen scans of Frieza post-Spirit Bomb altered to make him look more messed up than he was by it.rereboy wrote:Those other situations show nudity but only the Oolong scene actually explicitly shows a sexual situation ("puff-puffing" the boobs) so its not the same thing. I highly doubt that its a mistake. I really don't see how they would confuse her nipples with something else.Mewzard wrote:...

Digitally, it comes out as 42 volumes, the same as the tankobon, but with some differing chapter cut offs between volumes. I, hopefully, am not mistaken on this.oXdanXo wrote:How many of the full colour volumes will it take to cover the series?
Re: Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussi
I dunno about digitally, but physically it should be less, since there's more chapters per volume, it should be less. And Viz does their digital the same size as their physical, so it should be less for there as well.Duo wrote:Digitally, it comes out as 42 volumes, the same as the tankobon, but with some differing chapter cut offs between volumes. Aren't middle fingers normally censored, too?rereboy wrote:The only censorship that Viz currently does in the Z portion of the manga is regarding Mr. Popo's lips, Gohan's penis, #17's gun and the riffles of those thugs in the Buu arc. Re: Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussi
I bring this issue a lot because most of the fan base is wrong about Dragon Ball being released uncensored at one point. I'm alway finding new people with that misconception so I rectify them.Super Sonic wrote:

Personally, I don't really care about the existing censorship. There are only two instances that somewhat break the story/meaning of the scene: the removal of #17's gun and the removal of the middle fingers. If those were fixed, the rest would be insignificant because they don't affect the story or anything else, it would only be a matter of principle and nothing else.
And I have no idea what you are talking about regarding Freeza's wounds. I never heard anything like that nor do I really understand what you are trying to say or ask.
Also, I believe you are wrong about it going back to a machine gun. All panels with those guns were altered to make the guns less realistic.
That's true. Forgot to mention it. And I should remember it because that's some of the worst of the censorship. But I can only think of two examples of that in Z portion of the manga, none of them in this volume.Windrammer wrote:Aren't middle fingers normally censored, too?rereboy wrote:The only censorship that Viz currently does in the Z portion of the manga is regarding Mr. Popo's lips, Gohan's penis, #17's gun and the riffles of those thugs in the Buu arc. So I just got back from my comic shop and the owner handed me this since I ordered it. It's really cool and great to look at. Definitely worth getting.

Did they by any chance include the Q&A with Toriyama or the "Enter the Dragon Ball" section?ShadowDude112 wrote:So I just got back from my comic shop and the owner handed me this since I ordered it. It's really cool and great to look at. Definitely worth getting.

Nope. But they do have a sound effects glossary on the back which tells you what the untranslated sound effects say.Makaioshin wrote:Did they by any chance include the Q&A with Toriyama or the "Enter the Dragon Ball" section?ShadowDude112 wrote:So I just got back from my comic shop and the owner handed me this since I ordered it. Re: Viz's Print Edition of the "Full Colour Comics" Discussi
I believe he's asking why Viz couldn't have simply put the sound effect translations on top of the panels (like in the picture he posted) as opposed to creating a glossary.
So no Toriyama Q&A, huh? That's odd. Are all of the chapter title pages included? I think I remember hearing the Japanese release left some out.

Oh, sorry. The translation was so small on the page I didn't see it. Yes, chapter titles are all in there. The Viz chapter titles. I believe Viz made some different chapter titles. Also, Popo's lips are censored. I forget if they were in the digital version or not.MagicBox wrote:I believe he's asking why Viz couldn't have simply put the sound effect translations on top of the panels (like in the picture he posted) as opposed to creating a glossary.

EDIT: Oh, title pages? There are ones for chapters 1, 2, and 3. Which is all I've seen so far. Chapter 1 is Raditz, 2 is Goku, Gohan, Chi-Chi, and Gyumao in the car from Zenkai Power, and 3 is Gohan dressed as Son Wukong. I think that's it.

Yeah, isn't Popo's lips censored in the Japanese version as well?
My local Books-A-Million had it already so I nabbed it, added it's the first time I've ever actually owned the manga, and for all extensive purposes, it's the best physical high quality release we'll ever have. The glossy paper really makes the art pop even more.
