For the life of me I can't figure out why FUNI hasn't tried to bring the Jump Special, the new movie (BotG), the DB Dragon Box, the GT Dragon Box or the movies Dragon Box over to the US. Why do they keep pushing Z? I'm betting the movies box would sell well since it's still Z.

The only thing that comes to mind is they want to move away from DVD and push BluRay - which isn't a bad thing, but still... even DBox the movies upscaled on Blu would be fine.
That's what I'm saying! I'm getting tired of buying the Z series all the time! How many times have I bought and re-bought it? I think I'm gonna stand by my post when I said this new Blu-ray release and the Boo saga of Kai will be my last purchase of the Z series.
This would be my last z series purchase as well unless they come out with the dragon box z movies OR they EVENTUALLY release all 291 episodes on blu ray in the level set quality... which is when I would sell the current widescreen blu rays... Of course, I would only sell them if I knew for a fact that they were releasing the entire 291 episodes in the level set quality and weren't going to CANCEL it AGAIN! jeesh..

To be honest with you....I don't know if the Level sets quality would make me sell all of the new Blu-rays and get them. :P Just tired of buying Z. not the movies but just the series. I'm probably lying to myself too. I'll say this now and a couple years later they'll release this awesome release then I'll be like ''OH YEAH! I GOTTA GET IT!''
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Why would FUNImation ever go back to the level sets? These new BD's have more or less already sold more then the Level Sets, would be pretty pointless and expensive going back for the sake of making the purists happy. End of the day their a business it's not their job to care about the hardcore fans, it's like when DC allowed Morrison to
so they could generate sales, and it worked, my LCS was charging £32.99 for that issue (was the last few left they had)

Furthermore! They would go back to the 4:3 the way they did with the Dragon Boxes.. I.E. Toei would have to do the whole remastering process and allow Funimation to distribute that copy so Funi basically makes free money off hardcore fans like before... When I say level sets I don't mean another 17 episode release but probably something similar to the dboxes but in blu ray... believe it will happen. I remember when I never thought there would be blu ray dbz... it happened.. twice... I also didn't think they would come out with something as amazing as the dboxes... they did... and I promise we will see a blu ray dbox marketed to only THE MOST SUPER AWESOME GENKI DAMA BLA BLAH BLAH FANS EVER!!!

You are living way the past there man, there's been like 5 Robin's since and this will explain what happened to the most recent one.
anyway back on topic
The only way a 4x3 Blu-Ray will happen is if Toei do a remaster of their own and I could see FUNImation doing a dragon box with those, however, I don't think it's likely we'll see a remaster from Toei anytime soon if at all.

The original DVD Season sets sold like hot cakes because of numerous factors: first time ever available uncut on DVD in one run, 3 audio tracks, "seasons" instead of a zillion volumes and so on and so forth. FUNimation made a lot of dough and an amount of that dough went to buy the rights to Dragon Boxes.

If these new Season sets sells well, I could image FUNimation putting some of that income towards another release of DBZ, i.e. continuation of the Level sets on Blu-ray.

And on another note, I really do think that the consumers were (a bit) to blame for the failure of the Level sets. Not enough people purchased both volumes released and FUNimation perhaps couldn't justify to do their heavy re-mastering on them without the consumer interest. I also see that some found the prices on the Level sets high and that scared them away, but really, re-mastering isn't cheap....

I don't really think this is the fault of the consumer. Weren't the Level sets released literally a few months after the Dragon Boxes? I mean, if you get the "Super Special Awesome Edition for Hardcore Fans" and then they release another version of a product that's "supposed to be even better" a few months after, most consumers wouldn't be interested because they literally just bought the product a little while before.

I'm not really blaming it entirely on the consumer, because in the end no one is forced to buy any release if they don't want to. But you can't deny that if these releases had sold well, FUNimation wouldn't have dropped it from their schedule - right?

Also, the "Super Special Awesome Edition for Hardcore Fans" were only available for a limited time only. The Level sets were totally meant for the "broad" audience; to be on the store shelves. The Dragon Boxes were 480i and the Level sets were 1080p, so it's not really the same products. I for one, am happy to have both Dragon Boxes and the few Level sets that were released.

I just wish FUNimation coulda printed level 2.1 and 2.2 so at-least the'd go right up against the old uncut funi singles.

But I have the Dragon Box/Dragon box singles so at this point...i'm like "ehhhhhhh" lol

I do agree with the bold part, yes. What I was trying to say(although in hindsight may have been worded poorly) is that the timing of the release was poor. It is true that the DBoxes and Level Sets are different in that sense, but to most people all that matters is that "It's DBZ!", and having two separate releases only a few months after the former is usually too much for some.

Don't get me wrong, I love the DBoxes and the Level Sets are also gorgeous, I just think they should have released the Levels a little later.

*also, I apologize if this post isn't well-written, I have not gotten any sleep in 3 days.

Ehh, ill be done with DBZ anime purchases after Buu Kai. Unless of course we get a Dragonball Kai and the previous movies get redubbed and get a Level Set or Kai set bluray treatment.

As for anime in general, I still got a ways to go. Eureka 7 is finally getting a bluray release on April 22 and Attack on Titan/Shingeki No Kyojin is coming in June (according to a Walmart leak) and we still got Cowboy Bebop coming in bluray sometime this year.

If only the Gurren Lagann bluray set wasent over 500 dollars...bite me Aniplex.

To nab a bunch of pseudo-panic-buy pre-orders for season 3 while it's cheap. People who've bought season 3 are pretty much guaranteed to buy 1 and 2.

Like I said before, Wal-mart is all kinds of weird when it comes to listings sometimes. They'll carry certain seasons of the Digimon releases but not other ones at any given point in time. Some will be marked down significantly compared to where RightStuf has them, others will be only a couple of bucks cheaper if that. I just check back constantly on things I'm wanting to buy from Wal-mart and compare what seems like a good price against what I'm willing/able to spend on it at any given time.

Here here! (Granted I already have Gurren via the Anime Legends set, but I'm still peeved at Aniplex and their asinine price gouging on something that's essentially a re-re-release, more extras be damned.)

If FUNimation had done this for Dragon Box Z Collection in 4 Boxes (rather than 7) all in one bundle it'd have sold like hotcakes and still be in stock, but the way they marketed it just wasn't intended as such.

3x12DVD
1x8DVD (The last remaining TV DVDs + 2 TV Specials' DVDs)

This way not only would they take less space but be more affordable and pay all at once for something like $99.99, and that's considerably cheap seeing how Breaking Bad: The Complete Series goes for $357 (just comparable as in complete series).

FUNimation's just avoiding the inevitable.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

And the Dragon Boxes weren't craziness? But on the same note, it seems almost any box set is at the $500 range which is crazy! And I doubt Gurren Lagann needed any remastering process considering it's run was in 2007 which makes the price just outrageous! I'll buy that box set eventually though.

Bringing Digimon into it actually shows a rather high misunderstanding of the market.

Digimon while an anime, is being sold effectively purely as a kids cartoon.

If you want DBZ to be dub only, then we can talk, but until then, it's not really a proper comparison

Of course, people also claim DBZ has been released to much, but if we are gonna use Digimon as a base of comparison, that argument gets thrown out a bit... especially when you consider that the four season box is actually the third time some of those episodes were released in a single year.
Daimo-Rukiri wrote: And the Dragon Boxes weren't craziness?
No, they really weren't

Gurren was produced in SD, it was recomposited for the Blu-rays. While the price is unreasonable, this is a case where anime fans got EXACTLY what they asked for. They got a 'fancy release like you'd get in Japan.' Our Blu-ray for Gurren is literally the Japanese box disk for disk, and we paid roughly equivalent in price. (Of course, the current releases of Gurren are the 3rd and 4th different set of disks the series has had since 2008...)
