"DBZ: Battle of Z" (360/PS3/Vita) On-Going Discussion Thread
Re: "DBZ: Battle of Z" (360/PS3/Vita) On-Going Discussion Th
Man, you don't realize how important team composition is until you completely get thrashed by the computer. I had decided to take Jeice for a spin after I unlocked him, neglected to pay attention to his class, and mistakenly loaded my team with two support characters, one interfere and one melee. The resulting blood bath was both embarrassing and humbling. After changing the composition to one support, one ki, and two melees we fared much better the second time around. Pretty rewarding stuff.
Amazing to have some semblance of strategy in a Dragon Ball game.

@JeffJarrett
I would LOVE to see some of those things implemented. Sadly, there are a few small problems with that. Just minor things, like time, money, and space limitations. Do you honestly expect any developer to make a functional HD fighter with that kind of content in one game? Gradually building up to it might work, but all of that in Raging Blast 3 (or any other new game, for that matter) is totally impractical.
You are asking for a Raging Blast 3 with the "complete roster" from DB, DBZ, and DBGT. Dragon Ball is known for having a rather large cast. Assuming you only want characters that are at least as suitable to a fighting game as, say, Mr. Satan and Namu, that's still a ton of characters. Making Shen, Yakon, Gokua, and GT Goten all work in a game takes way more than pointing at a computer and saying, "I want a perfect Dragon Ball game. Gimme!" Add in all of the stages you're talking about (Should Uiro's lab have that room with the flying spiked balls? Is the area of Namek where Vegeta fights Cui a separate stage from the area of Namek where Nail fought Freeza?) and the game has just become much more difficult to make. You also want overhauled game mechanics, huh? Yeah, that also isn't as easy as it is in daydreams.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Sparking/BT & Raging Blast fan. I, too, dream of the day when Bear With Sword can beat up Bio Broli in a Filler Hell (with a functioning Ferris wheel, naturally). I do not, however expect that game to release tomorrow.
Back to Battle of Z, I got my copy yesterday. It beat its ETA from the post office by two days, so that was cool. I'll post a mini review of some sort when I'm farther in. I have thoughts, but I'd like to put some more time in.

Battle of Z does have its own score but they used recycled music too for some reason.dbzfan7 wrote:Speaking of OST..I hate how since UT there hasn't been an original score.

There's a fair good amount of reviews but frankly, since they've given 360/PS3/Vita users a demo to try out you don't even need someone's opinion because the meat's right there.thatdbzguy wrote:Really wish this game would get more reviews so I can decide whether to buy it or not.
If they could port the emulated HD PCSX2/Dolphin version (dunno if it's possible) of Tenkaichi 3 then they wouldn't even need to bother remastering it in HD, but just add an online mode and the newer characters.JeffJarrett wrote:Take BT3 and make the graphics HD (or take RB2), add way more content (reaply value is very important), and you'll have it. Pretty much this, except I don't having 9 super attacks is necessary.JeffJarrett wrote:1- More characters: complete DB roster, missing movie characters and DBZ henchmen (Yakon, Pui Pui, Yamu, Kibito, Spice Boys, etc.), more GT characters (GT Goten, Ledgic, Luud, Goku Jr, Vegeta Jr, Mamba, etc.). That way you can even make battles such as hair attack vs. hair attack: Spice's hair manipulation vs. Mamba's hair manipulation.VegettoEX wrote:What exactly is this "content"...?
2- No doublon (Scouter Vegeta as the base form for a single Vegeta character with SS, SS2, etc.), but more costumes instead (The Path to Power skins as an alternate costume for the Red Ribbon chatacters, except for the giant Battle Jacket which has to be a character different from the regular Battle Jacket imo).
3- A maximum of 9 Super Attacks per characters (4 Blast 1, 4 Blast 2, 1 Ultimate Blast, which is possible if they add the Right and Left directions instead of just Up and Down when doing a Blast 1/2 attack). The characters who don't have that much attack in the show can just have 5 Super Attaks or less.
4- Spirit Bomb, Large Spirit Bomb, Super Spirit Bomb depending on how many time you charge the Spirit Bomb rather than pre-select one or the other. Same with Kaio-ken Attack and Kaio-ken Finish.
5- Different combo when using the directional stick while smashing the attack button.
6- Team Attacks.
7- More Battle Stages: there's a lot of setting missing. From other planets such as New Planet Vegeta to Earth's localisations such as the Red Ribbon Base or Gero's lab, and Other World locations (King Kai's planet, Snake Way, Other World Tournament Arena, Grand Kai's planet, etc.). With, why not, the possibility to switch arena ala Hyper Dimension for SNES.
+ Several other idea Treevax had for a RB3. All that kind of things that let you're imagination work while playing the game and which allow for more replay value.
I recently made a dream DBZ game character roster, which totaled up to 308 characters (including transformations). I know it'll never happen, but I think it's what they need.

No one said it would be for PS4/XO because the money's still on 360/PS3 and that's what people want yet Namco Bandai refuses to release it.Drev wrote:and that wouldn't be a waste of money, right. A ps2 game in hd, in the ps4 era. Come on man.
If Battle of Z is any indication, it means Dragon Ball games for the home consoles are just going to get worse even if they make the jump to PS4/XO.
Anyway, I'd rather play a great game re-released in HD than a crappy one. I'm lucky to have a working PS3 60GB so I can play Tenkaichi 3 in HD whenever I want but the rest are stuck to being patient or play on their PS2/Wii (console gamers generally don't game on PC).

I'm horrible with any tech stuff, but I'm pretty sure playing a PS2 disc in a 60GB PS3 does not automatically turn it into Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 HD.

It's obvious Namco Bandai has no clue what the fans want even though they've said it a million times.

I'd they could add the Rb2 characters to tenkaichi 3 and add online and make it HD that would be tight.

Well, sort of.
If you have an old PS3 60GB/80GB then you just have to insert the PS2 disc and it'll play straight away.
Here's how Tenkaichi 3 looks on my PS3 60GB:

And Budokai 3:

But honestly, these pics don't really do justice because it actually looks great if played in-motion rather than judging from these screenshots.

Really on the fence whether I should get this game or not. Tonight I'm going to sit down and go through all available reviews on the web and see what I can get from all of that. It has been such a long while since I've bought a Dragon Ball game so I am also relying on this thread for impressions/opinions. Part of me just wants to get this game since my last DB entry in video games was DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3.

They've changed my life - changed the way I act on the earth. Doesn't that make them kind of real? They might be imaginary but, but they're more important than most of us here. And they're all gonna be around here long after we're dead. So, in a way, those things are more realer than any of us.

Try the demo. That'll give you a pretty decent feel for the game.RocktheDragon wrote:Really on the fence whether I should get this game or not. When watching said reviews keep in mind that the game is stiff, awkward, lazily explained, and has the bare minimum amount of features available. That being said, it's brilliant fun if you go in knowing what to expect. Check out lord moonstone's videos on the game if you haven't done so yet. They're really helpful. Not many people are going to understand this game, least of all journalists who are only reviewing the title because they have to.RocktheDragon wrote:Really on the fence whether I should get this game or not. Man, I can't believe all the negative feedback this game is getting- I'm having a blast. I've bought every single Dragon Ball game on launch since Budokai on Ps2 and this is by far my favorite game. The choice to give each character a "type" was brilliant and making teams and leveling them up is a ton of fun. I'm enjoying so much I bought another copy on the Vita so I could cross-save and play while I'm on the bus to work and back as well. My only minor gripe is that you only get one trophy list but that's really nothing in the end.

Tenkaichi 3 was near this, and it's a PS2 game. Now we're not in the PS2 era anymore, we're not even in the PS3 era, we're in the PS4 era. If those new consoles can't do this, what's their purpose? Less content than older games but better graphics, that's else? That is what the PS3 game were: Burst Limit had less content than Budokai 1 (21 Playable Characters vs. 23), Raging Blast 2 had less content than Budokai Tenkaichi 2 (100 Playable Characters vs. 129/135).Eddie wrote:I would LOVE to see some of those things implemented.

Pretty much my stance on the whole thing, which is why I dont really buy what Captain Sora said about them having to build the games from the ground up for the new systems. Especially since they still feel the same the end. Burst Limit is just smoother and faster paced than Budokai 1 and Raging Blast looks nicer than Tenkaichi 1.JeffJarrett wrote:Tenkaichi 3 was near this, and it's a PS2 game. To me, When I think of a game sequel being built from the ground up for new platforms I think of the transition from MK4 on N64 and PS1 to Deadly Alliance - Armageddon on PS2, Xbox and Gamecube.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.
