I highly doubt Toriyama is even willing to try it. Any future movie will most likely go in the same direction as BOG.hleV wrote:BOG screwed Vegeta over so much that I can't see a movie with him in the spotlight being any good. But if they bring back the good ol' badass Vegeta, go for it.

Re: Next DBZ Movie Featuring Vegeta?
Hmm, I wonder if this could partially be due to that line about Goku not seeing everyone for five years from the original manga. I'd imagine Goku would still show up, but maybe not when the majority of the cast are around.
What with the other big news (Goku's mother), I could also see the next film being a prequel set on Planet Vegeta. Vegeta's Childhood: The Movie? I'd be down with that. Talking down to babysitter Nappa, convincing his father to banish his little brother (every big brother's dream), and any other wacky Toriyama goodness would be appreciated.

Breaking the fourth wall and giving Piccola an extra finger was so serious.Blade wrote:King Piccolo arc?TheDevilsCorpse wrote:That never has, and never will be, Dragon Ball.sintzu wrote:I want it so serious that kids run out the theater crying
Like other story arcs, the Piccolo Daimao arc was dark, but it retained Toriyama's signature fun style. The demons were named after musical instruments, for goodness' sake.

Yeah, but everybody dies and Piccolo destroys Shenron. Not to mention, at that point in the story death wasn't a trivial thing that could be easily fixed.Eddie wrote: Breaking the fourth wall and giving Piccola an extra finger was so serious.![]()

If I was a little kid watching that for the first time, heck - I'd want to run out crying! It's tragic.

Fingers crossed for present-day Vegeta with his shit together. Not sure how interested I am in a prequel where I know how this guy's story ultimately pans out, and I'm not a fan of asshole murderer Vegeta at all.
Though, I guess it's harder to make a story without Goku if you go the post-series route. Vegeta takes his family to some vacation resort planet and shenanigans happen?

I wasn't a fan of a lot of it as well, but it had one of my top favorite Vegeta scenes though. I loved seeing him defend Bulma.hleV wrote:BOG screwed Vegeta over so much that I can't see a movie with him in the spotlight being any good. But if they bring back the good ol' badass Vegeta, go for it.

Re: Next DBZ Movie Featuring Vegeta?
The way I see it, a prequel would be more about character development. If you believe people are born evil, then you won’t be interested in a movie like this but if you believe experiences play an important role in people’s personalities, then that’s different. I know Vegeta had a lot of wickedness in his heart but I wonder how much of his experience helped to shape him into a mass murderer, arrogant asshole (arrogance after all, is the ultimate sign of insecurity).
It doesn’t need to be all dark. His interaction with Nappa and Raditz can provide some comedic relief. Not to mention the ending can cut to present Vegeta doing something like reluctantly taking kid Trunks to the park. If there is something Toriyama is really good at, is providing light hearted moments to dark story lines.

I though it was refreshing to see Vegeta get into ridiculous mode. It was a nice juxtaposition to the great danger of having the God of Destruction nearby and having to entertain/satisfy him. Also, the main point of it all was just in good fun and I think Dragon Ball should go more toward its comedic side in future movies (but that's just me).hleV wrote:BOG screwed Vegeta over so much that I can't see a movie with him in the spotlight being any good. Well, isn't this nice news to have. I hope this comes through, a story focusing on Vegeta's reaction to Battle of Gods would be wonderful.

Re: Next DBZ Movie Featuring Vegeta?
One would think that Toriyama would have enough clout to decide the protagonist of the next movie (if indeed there is one) but with all the politics and money put into the production I guess the answer isn't clear cut. Having said that, the way BOG ended seems to fall inline with Toriyama's thoughts on the matter since Vegeta stated he wanted to turn Super Saiyan God form next time. Though that could have just been a throw away statement and not mean anything in particular.Sin wrote:Would that decision ultimately lie with him though? Thanks for sharing, I think it'd be refreshing to see a film where Goku isn't in the spotlight.

I'm 99% sure this will be a battle of gods sequel but we might get flashbacks but that's about itpetronka101 wrote:The way I see it, a prequel would be more about character development. This kind of falls right in line with Vegeta's comments at the end of BoG.

You mean the scene where he randomly powered up, contradicing the living shit out of what's been established in the series? The scene would've been awesome had it been just SS3, but now I don't find it enjoyable at all because it doesn't make any sense.petronka101 wrote:I also loved that scene but BOG is not a movie I particulary enjoyed.

Don't Saiyans get stronger when they are angry ? Not giving him ssj3 makes sence now as they are saving it for his moviehleV wrote:You mean the scene where he randomly powered up, contradicing the living shit out of what's been established in the series?it doesn't make any sense.
