WatchMojo.com's Top 10 DBZ Moments

Post by DragonBoxZTheMovies » Sat Feb 01, 2014 7:45 pm

Pretty neat, considering how big WatchMojo.com is.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAqj8R44y10

Be prepared to watch clips from the FUNimation's English dub if you're a fan of the Japanese version, but I guess that's to be expected.

EDIT: Actually just watching it now, for Pre-Namek stuff they use FUNi's dub with the Ocean Group.

EDIT 2: Just finished watching it...yeah, that was just a little cringe-worthy.

Ah, yes, the raw power of the Turtle Destruction Wave; one of my favorite techniques.

As of lately, I’ve seen many popular Youtubers upload content related to Dragon Ball: Ryan Higa, screen Junkies, and now watchmojo (to name a few). I wonder if there’s a nostalgia cycle going on right now.

I suppose they didn't watch it but if they did they wouldn't have picked those moments for a Top 10 video.

My Top 10 would be:

10. The Great Saiyaman Opening
9. Gohan Defeats Garlic Junior
8. Goku Destroys Kid Buu with Genki Dama
7. The Oni Guys
6. Satan Saves the Puppy
5. Trunks Chops Mecha Freeza
4. Gohan Insults Super Buu
3. Goku Turns Super Saiyan
2. YOU MEAN KURIRIN?!
1. Gohan SSJ2's Rage

And it'd be all with the original Japanese cast because these moments are best enjoyed with Nozawa's screams.

Watched Higa's video but that was displeasing for me as a fan but others/his fans seemed to like it and dare to say it was better than the original Dragon Ball Z.

5. Freeza's First Death.

Yeah, he only died once, against Trunks. It also says he conquered universes, which we all know is not true. Did the guys at Mojo even bother watching this show?

Edit: I liked the Naruto fake movie trailer better tbh. And the list on Mojo is what you would expect from Mojo. Number one is the over 9000 meme if I'm not mistaken.

I did like the screen Junkies collaboration with TFs though.

I was referring more to Dragon Ball still being relevant (at least on the internet) rather than the quality of the videos. I mean, pretty neat for a series that's older than the average fan.

WatchMojo never disappoints in preventing me from liking them.

They seem to have only watched the dub. So....well...they saw what happened visually?

I'm sure even dub-only watchers know Freeza only died once.

DBZ ended after the Frieza Saga.

Some of their things are ok like superhero and supervillain origins. But some of their lists are easy to figure out their top picks (Top 10 G1 Decepticons) or too easily influenced by media besides comics (Wouldn't count General Zod as one of DC's top supervillains).

Seems like a decent list. But kinda boring with the narration. Seems like they're just...reading off a script not the epic-ness that comes from their head as a child.

My list (a couple of videos don't work anymore) is better.

The list was good, I liked all these moments and it also reminded me how bad the dub is. What should be in #1 should be the SS2 transformation against Cell, but it's understandable that they missed it, since the scene is epic only in the original version.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

WatchMojo doing a top 10 DBZ list? I'm alright with that. I would switch a lot of their rankings around but I do take kindly to more and more exposure of DB to the masses.

They've changed my life - changed the way I act on the earth. Doesn't that make them kind of real? They might be imaginary but, but they're more important than most of us here. And they're all gonna be around here long after we're dead. So, in a way, those things are more realer than any of us.

They mentioned DBZ on their honorable mentions list of their Top 10 Cartoon Show Theme songs. A list which I don't agree with their number one, and have a feeling everyone here would have their own thoughts on.

Since I like the dub, that didn't bother me at all.

What did bother me is the misspellings and that they said some of the names wrong.

Also, that wasn't Father Son Kamehameha.

Because of its limited release and some say Funimation didn't dub it due to it being like that bad Star Wars tv special from the 70s for the DB franchise.

Have any other countries dubbed it?
