It's from FUNimation so it'll have the subtitles by Mr. J. Simmons.

ok so if these are the saga sets from FUNi aren't EP. 1-13 edited? How would they fix that?

If I remember, there's the English dub only version and then the dual language which is uncut.

IIRC, Madman released the first episodes just like the rest - in both languages and with subtitles. But in America, the blue season sets were the first release to have the beginning of the story the way it should've been in the first place.

Except Steve Simmons didn't do the subtitles for Dragon Ball (except for a few Tenkaichi Budokai episodes, I think), Clyde Mandelin (Mandalin?) did them. But, yeah, FUNimation's.

He did the subtitles for the Tournament Saga. And... I think the uncut Saga of Goku as well? Not sure.

Oh thanks for the correction, though that translator also uses honorifics too doesn't he?

I thought it would have been Steven J. Simmons because what I've seen of FUNi's DB media is always credited to him.

He may have only done them for the Tournament Saga.

That's true. He talks about that in the 1 year anniversary of the podcast (episode 51, I believe). He only did a few in the Tournament Saga and the rest was Clyde Mandelin, but Steve Simmons was miscredited as the translator.

Well, so long as the Fortune Teller Baba saga discs are okay, this is good news (I remember reading there was some big error with the Australian version of that "saga", can't remember what though....)

Although I will say I'll miss the marathon feature, not that pressing Skip Chapter a couple of times is the end of the world.
Er.... No.

This kinda raises the question of what'll happen with the movies. Was there an equivalent release of the Dragon Ball movies, before the FUNimation remastered 4-Pack?

And how does that set compare to other releases? Kinda feel like it'd be worth owning, since it is in 4:3, but I don't know how if looks.

There was the 3-Movie Pack before the 4-Pack came along but I dunno how it looks like though I'm interested because if it's better I'd get those.

Basically the same thing. They just released movie 1 separately first because they had just gotten back the rights for that movie and the first 13 episodes of the series. (From what I remember)

One episode only had subtitles for the English dub, no proper translation of the Japanese version. Or rather, they messed up the subtitle-encoding on one disc causing both subtitle-tracks to be identical. Which meant that while that one episode only had dubtitles, all the other ones only had the translation of the Japanese dialogue and no dubtitles. I daresay that not having subtitles for the hard-of-hearing is a considerably less severe flaw than one episode not having a proper translation though.

All 5 boxes have received a slight price drop to £21.76 from £22.50 so in total it'd be £109-ish for this price it's a decent deal but I'm planning on using custom covers + boxes so I would have to shell out a bit more.

Although I think most people are aware, it's still worth noting that FUNimation's Dragon Ball footage of Episode 026 (applies to Sagas & Blue Bricks) on the beginning the image keeps still while the voices/sfx is heard in the background it's like 19secs lost more or less but other than that I can't remember of any other flaw to do with the episodes.

Watch it here to get an idea of it: FUNimation.com - Dragon Ball: 026 - The Grand Finals

These are the same cropped, it seemed.

The video source of this collection is the Saga Sets not the Blue Bricks and even though they've been told by the fans to not use the BB artworks they still went ahead with it. Not only is it false advertisement "Digitally Remastered" but the older collection was never known as "Seasons" *sigh* Manga UK.

Yikes, so this is a legit dvd collection, see I thought it was the old cropped nonsense that dropped to $9 on amazon.com, which I passed up.
