Well since you got it for free you're literally not losing out anything, still, if you posted positive info to attract buyers who have no idea it'd probably sell for a good amount.

You could throw in "Dragon Ball Z: Season 1 Blu-ray RARE!!"

I am OK w/ them being 16:9 IF and only if the video quality is worth it as I have a 55" Plasma.
Scroll through the thread. The picture quality is pretty abysmal.

You have zero grain at all so they're the complete antithesis of the Dragon Boxes and Level Sets.

Where they've removed the grain, you're left with wavy texture and line art as a result of the grain trying to squeeze its way past the filters.

It's just a smudgy mess. Your TV's quality isn't going to make any difference. It's just a piss poor product that has nothing on the Dragon Boxes or Level Sets bar its colour balance.
I watched this comparison video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GEvLIkDBlk

And I know I am in the EXTREME minority on this board, but I actually like the look of the new sets! The picture just looks better in my eyes, and I'm entitled to my opinion... I know some people are saying the contrast is too high but like I said, I like the picture. It makes DBZ look up to date, and is DEFINITELY better than the Orange Boxes in every regard.

The Dragon Boxes have a pink overtone to every single episode, and I understand it is from the Japanese broadcasts but it can still get annoying after you see them side by side.

The Level sets look real nice though, it's disappointing they discontinued them but that's Funimation for you.

Meh. What's a "good" price for this? $15.00? $20.00? It's not gonna be like some crazy amount, it's not like it's a PS3, I don't mind if it sells for cheap. :D

You're entitled to have an opinion. But don't go by that comparison video. The video is so small, it looks totally different on a TV, especially if you're gonna watch it on your 55 inch TV. It's like night and day.

Well what would be different when I watch it on TV? I understand that DNR was applied to it to remove film grain, but like I said that video is all I have to go off of and I did like what I saw.

Well, there's a few people on this forum that could answer this a lot better than I can. But to put it simply, when an image is shrunken down it sometimes looks better because you can't see all the flaws. For example, the top image is a screen shot from the set drastically reduced in size. The bottom image is a cut part of the original image at 100%. Not zoomed in or anything, the cut is just taken from a screen shot at it's normal resolution - that's what it looks like. When it's shrunken down, you can't see how bad it looks.

That video doesn't show the flaws of the release. The bitrate is too low on YouTube to show what you'd be seeing on 30MB/s Blu-Ray on a 55" screen.

You can't see the horrible remnants of grain creeping in and out or the wobbly lines. You can't see how smudgy and watery the lines look or how butchered the backgrounds are.

Having watched it on a 50something inch T.V. Season One looked phenomenal! I was in awe for all 39 episodes. Although the last couple of episodes were just a tad bit too bright even more liking. All in all I was impressed.

Not sure if this is new news or not but Funimation is delaying Season two until March.

I'd say $15 but seeing how it's now on $23 just a little bit more and it'll cost more (it was at one point being sold on Amazon.com for $17.99 new) than a new factory sealed copy. :P

I canceled my Amazon order... It's becoming more clear these aren't really worth me spending money on at the moment. Even cheap, the Australian dollar makes it cost more than I feel like spending on a substandard release.

The flaws are noticeable if you're right in front of your tv/monitor but if you say 8-10 feet a way you're not going to notice them.
they could have just left dvnr alone and these would have looked better><

Not really. I was sitting on my couch and the flaws were obvious.

I don't see how this is a good release. I mean come on, the ending credits zoomed like that? Darn (down?) right insulting. Come on fans.

Any idea when the the podcast reviewing this will drop? I've been dying to hear you guys rip into this thing for weeks now. I got really excited for today's podcast until I saw what it was about, I couldn't give less of a fuck about Toriyama and Ooishi's stupid, pandering ideas. Bring on the review! :D

Amusingly enough, I kinda address the Blu-ray review toward the end of this week's show.

I'm torn. I barely have anything to say about it. I mean, what else do you say? Yeah, it's cropped. Yeah, it's insulting. Yeah, it is what it is. Well shit. OK.

I just can't muster any truly strong emotions to really get into it, and I'm halfway-tempted to pull the old AnimeOnDVD.com shtick that, if there's a product released that I so vehemently disagree with on its very principle(s), I just might not even dignify it with a review at all.

If I do a proper review on the podcast and/or written out on the full website, it's not going to be anything like what fans of our orange brick dissection from... fuck, seven years ago was it?!... are anticipating.

I'm full of so many strong opinions about the series and all its related stuffage (mostly positive!), but I just can't give any less of a shit about these awful FUNimation home releases anymore. I just. don't. can't. won't. care. anymore. about. them.

No-one wants to hear me talk about FUNimation's English dub anymore (myself included), and no-one wants to hear me talk about FUNimation's cropped video releases anymore (myself included).

And if you do, congrats, you're a psychotic masochist and I love you.

Love you too!

On a serious note, despite how predictable it is or tiring it may seem to talk about the flaws of this product, I think many would appreciate an articulate and concise review filled with examples and comparisons.

There's plenty on the forum already but to have something 'official' on the site would be great. Like you say, 'there's a site too!' and I'd love to be able to link to it when asked about this product.

I just want to start off saying that I know many will disagree with me...And that's okay! :) So I finely got my Blu-ray in! And I only watched 1 episode(Because I'm going through the original series) I watched the first fight with Piccolo and Goku vs Raditaz and I have to admit that enjoyed it a-lot!
I don't have many problems with the way it looks. Some parts look a little ''Inky?'' but the brightness doesn't bother me. also I remember reading here about these two specific problems. Around the clouds and such it looks a little weird? like smeared or something like that? like grain is around them? AND! I cannot for the life of me understand why Funimation decided to crop the ending more? What is up with that? :P I am glad that the Intro looks ''Okay'' I wished the characters had a little more pink on them like the Dragon-boxes but whatever.
But I overall enjoyed what I was watching and in my opinion I think it looks waaaaay better than the orange bricks and I will gladly keep buying the rest of the Blu-rays. I still wished it would be in 4x3 but looks like there's no point in crying over spilled milk.

Edit - Also if there's a really bad part that someone noticed and would like for me to check out, just give me the episode and what I'm supposed to be looking for :P

Edit again - I also liked the size of the Blu-ray! I've been running out of room and when I gave all of the orange bricks to my brother it cleared up a bunch of room and these sets will do great! :D
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128
