Have You Ever Been Ashamed Of Liking DBZ?
Re: Have You Ever Been Ashamed Of Liking DBZ?
Not really.
Maybe around girls in school, haha.

It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

All the time.
Not because I think it's something to be ashamed of, but it's not exactly something that I like to leave out in plain view for first impressions. You had better believe that if I have a lady friend over, I hide Dragon ball behind strategically enormous box sets such as James Bond and Game of Thrones.
I like to slowly introduce people to my Dragonball related mental illness.

Hiding your interests from possible romantic partners isn't a great idea in my opinion. Its better to just be honest and confident. And if she likes it, then at least you will know she likes who you really are.Captain Awesome wrote:All the time.

Not at all, in fact i usually get the opposite reaction, i get lots of respect as soon as i say DB and me talking about it led to many great discussions with people.
But that's just because everybody here thinks DB is the best cartoon ever and it's highly loved by almost anyone.
And i'm not afraid of being told i'm a kiddie, because i know if they tell me that, it means they know jackshit about manga and anime so i can just "enlight them" with my knowledge of the franchise.
Which usually results in them feeling in awe or being embarassed at their ignorance, usually both.
I had someone tell me that Akira Toriyama is dead and his son continued the work for him, and then he said the DB movies were supposed to be part of a new series made by his own son but were cut into separated movies for time costraints.
I was like "wut?" and proceeded to tell him the truth, and he was like

Not in the slightest, what's there to be ashamed of DragonBall is a damn good show/manga. A few of my friends know I like DragonBall, I've even convinced one to get into it and not once was I worried about being made fun of. After all everybody has something they like that might be considered childish by others. But hey so what no one has the right to tell you what you can and can't enjoy so don't worry about it. Besides, if I ever did feel ashamed all I'd have to do is plod along to Kanzenshuu to feel better.

Re: Have You Ever Been Ashamed Of Liking DBZ?
No not all. Why should I ever feel ashamed? Infact I watch with pride. Hell, I just started University this year and my whole class know how much I love DB(Z).
Re: Have You Ever Been Ashamed Of Liking DBZ?
I'm going to add to my response by saying that I might be a bit ashamed around big anime geeks, such as members of the anime society at my university, who watch a lot of obscure anime that's never been dubbed in English, and stuff like that. I've never interacted with them much, and maybe I'm being prejudiced, but I'd expect that if I said "Dragon Ball is my favourite anime", they'd say something stupid like "Dragon Ball Zee isn't a real anime though, is it? It's a cartoon". Note the fact that they said "Zee" and I didn't.

Nope. I like what I like and I don't care what anyone says.
While people are laughing at me for watching cartoons, I'm laughing at them for mindlessly voting for people who they have no idea what that person stands for or them reading trashy magazines that the mainstream media puts out.
I obviously wouldn't walk up to girls and start talking about it BUT! When I went out with a DBZ shirt on my brother got me, 2 girls came up asking me about my shirt and started talking about the series
ALSO! This was a really weird moment but I was in good old wally world and some old man while I was getting rung up leaned over and asked where did I get that shirt.(It had Vegeta on it
) But Nah..I don't really care.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

No. I would be more ashamed of being a fan of some of the more mainstream stuff on television, such as reality shows. Compared to things like Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Dragon Ball looks like Shakespeare.
Kami is my co-pilot.

I never have and I never will. Hell, my phone background is this and my ringtone is "Cha-La Head Cha-La". Some people even recognize it!

Nope, not at all. There's a few times in high school that, looking back, I probably could have pulled it back a little bit, but in general I've never been ashamed of being a fan of anything that I'm into.

Nope and I have no problem admitting that I still watch DBZ. Same way I don't have a problem admitting I still listen to Backstreet Boys and NSYNC. If people are going to judge on that, that's their problem.

Re: Have You Ever Been Ashamed Of Liking DBZ?
Well, I just got back from my first visit to the local Anime Anonymous support group, and it went something like this:
"Hello. My name is Kamiccolo9. And I like Dragon Ball Z."
To which the circle of people responded with a collective yawn.
Seriously though, I've found that once people get out of that "need to fit in" phase that's so prevalent in Middle and High School (at least where I'm from in the States) then life tends to get a lot easier, at least as far as being able to enjoy what's "socially acceptable." From what I've experienced, college is where you can finally start to be yourself, without caring what anyone thinks of what you like. I mean, I just threw together a Pokemon Stadium minigame party in my dorm, and had over 50 people show up and start playing. And not a single person batted an eye at a huge group of multi-ethnic 19-24 year olds playing a game from 15 years ago that was made for 8 year olds, including the professors who came in (and some of them played as well).
In short, in my experience, once you "grow up" and get away from caring about whether or not what you like "fits in," you can start enjoying life a lot more.
