Wrath Of The Dragon

Post by Catterix2006 » Wed Jul 26, 2006 10:26 pm

Hey people. A bit of a N00b here, but I think I have some interesting information, or if not, then a good thing for FUNi haters to complain about.

A trailer for "Wrath Of The Dragon" has been released. Not bad, its quite informative and well edited, though the voice over sounds incredibly bored and rushes his sentences "Earth'sgreatestwarriorsstandtogetherunited" but its pretty cool, and we hear a great scream from Schemmel, I think he went all out in this movie as what I've heard of him sounds top notch, his roar for Dragon Fist or "Sho Ryuuken"? (Sorry, not that much of a Japanese genius) is brilliant... except... he doesn't say Dragon Fist.

The name has been changed to Dragon Fire.

Now, I don't know much about Japanese, but as far as I can tell.... that's a pretty bad translation, especially seeing as other dubs have already called it Dragon Fist...

Yeah, that's a horrible translation. Shoryuken = Rising Dragon Fist. Any Street Fighter fan can tell you that ;p

Not just other dubs but Funimation has gotten it right in their OWN dub before, not once but twice. It was correctly called "Dragon Fist" in both DBZ: Budokai 3 and in DBGT when Goku uses the technique to beat Super 17.

Frankly, I'm not surprised at all how FUNi was able to screw up the name of an attack. After all, according to them, Goku's Kaio-Ken is pronounced "Kay-O-Ken." And yes, "Dragon Fist" becoming "Dragon Fire" isn't the only instance when they've the name of an attack right at first, then crapping it up later on. If anyone who watched the English dub of the Freeza Saga, can remember how Krillin and Goku pronounced "Kamehameha" correctly at some episodes, the mispronounced it during the later episodes as "Kameyameya." That's frustrating, because it's most likely an error that'd usually be made by those so-called "writers", or an omission that the VA had made, but which the ADR director had allowed to slip by.

I guess this time, FUNi can't blame their screw up on American accents .

With that out of the way, I'm just hoping that the VAs are gonna give it their all. From what I've heard, it was the most plot-heavy movie of the series. After watching FUNi's movie 12 dub, I was left kinda disappointed with Goku's voice; he just seemed a little too tired and calm and not his regular goofy fighter junkie self.

(Okay, nobody kill me with glass-half-empty comments with my next comment-- it's just some wishful fanboy thinking that I've gotta throw on the table) ... And let's not forget it's delay. Maybe because they're cleanin' up the footage...?

I got the link from someone on the Narutoforums, but annoyingly it wasn't an actual link, you just clicked "here" and it started downloading.

Hopefully this'll work...

Maybe they dubbed those specific lines for the trailer, and may be different in the actual movie. I know it's just wishful thinking, but it's possible. At least we get it in fullscreen.

Dragon Fire, dear god that's lame. At least they didnt try to make Sean Schemmel pronunce it in Japanese. I'm more worried about the BGM then the attack name. Seriously, movie 12's BGM was horrid.

At least he didn't say "Super fist of the Fire Dragon!"

*sigh* After reading this, I'm gonna need to see a good fan sub. If you need me, I'll be over at ol' YouTube.

At least the dub voices for Tapion & Hoi sound pretty good...

It would be hilarious if Chris Sabat actually said that fansub line in the dub: "I'm pissed off, you burned down my house! FUCK YOUUUU!~!!!" :D
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Well, in the case of attack mispronounciations, it's usually caused not by accents, but rather when neither the VA or the ADR directors or even the "writers" bothered to care to watch the original Japanese version of the show and hear the pronounciations. In fact there were only 5 instances when Goku's Kaio-Ken technique was pronounced correctly, and they were all on the original Pioneer English dubs of movies # 2 and # 3. Of course, Pioneer probably did let Peter Kelamis (Goku's VA at the time) to watch the original Japanese versions of those movies.

Highly doubt it. Whenever FUNi screwed up something in their English dub of DBZ (and later on, GT), they have never bothered to fix it, and left it as-is. After all, remember how FUNi put up that opening rap song for their GT dub on the dragonballgt.com? It was 6 or 9 months prior to the release of the first volume of the show. And as soon as that "song" was posted, it generated large amount of negative reception from the fans (including the ones that supported FUNimation, and fully agreed with the changes that were made to the English dub of DBZ). And FUNi had plenty of time to remove that song from GT, but did they do it? Nope.
The same logic can be applied here with their release of the 13th movie. They're not delaying the movie because they're trying to fix the error. They're probably sitting on it because they wanna put their other shows out first.

Yeah. I was worried for a while on how Tapion's voice would be (didn't really care about Hoi.) But he sounds all right. But the flute solo! Someone said something in another thread about it being gone! NO!

And Hildegarn.....sounds like they're referring to him now as 'Hirudegarn'

Yeah, Herudigarn, that's pretty much just a romanization of the Japanese name, not even a translation lol.

Hildegarn doesn't mean anything as far as I know and the name we're associated with seems to be more of a fansub version. So they just gave a direct romanization I guess... Herudigarn makes it sound more alien n fantasy to me lol

Wow. Aside from Tapion's voice, that was pretty lame.
