Have you listened to every episode of the podcast?

Post by DragonBoxZTheMovies » Mon Nov 18, 2013 5:09 pm

With the podcast starting to creep up on 350 episodes, I thought it'd be a good time to ask this.

I'm sure those that have been listening every week since day one have done so, but as a latecomer, I've had to go back and download them all. Some of them I've listened to more than others (episodes 17 and 19), but after around three or four years of listening (almost daily. I walk around with my iPod a lot), I'm finally on my last batch of episodes- and when I say batch, we're still talking around 50 episodes... Scary to think how long it'd take to listen to all of them in a row.

I haven't been listening to them in order, but rather by which topics interested me (probably explains why the majority of episodes I haven't heard are news episodes); although, I did go back and download the first 100 episodes because I found those to be the funniest, likely because you guys were younger and less mature. I find those particular episodes are great to listen to while I'm just relaxing. Sometimes I don't even pay attention to what's being said, I just like to hear someone talking about Dragon Ball. When I go back and listen to some of the episodes now, I actually get a little nostalgic. They remind me of the summers I spent listening to these podcasts, which sounds lame, but it's hard to explain. I specifically remember listening to episode 57 on a Christmas morning.

This may come off as a little creepy, but I also found it interesting to hear how the hosts grew over time. Like I mentioned earlier, you guys started off as quite goofy (while on the podcast, anyway), but over time you can hear how Mike's voice matures and things become a lot more authoritative, while still managing to remain conversational. It's almost like actual Dragon Ball in a way. We start off with Goku as a kid, we see him grow up, and by the end, he's a grandpa. At the start of the podcast, Julian's in college studying. Now he's married and living in Japan with children. So what I'm getting at here is, Julian is Goku...

It's easy to forget that this show's been running for around 8 years and I've been listening for only half of that. I believe I became a regular listener from episode 244 on-wards, since that was when I first got my iPod, but I had been listening on-and-off throughout 2010.

This seems like a lame way to end this post, but I can't think of any other way to do so, other than to stop typing. Hey, my English exam was last week! I'm done with that subject for the year...

I (admittedly) don't listen to the podcast very much, so 'no' is my answer.

I have listened to every episode of the podcast, in fact! I won't claim to be one those people who have listened from day one though, because I'm not. In fact, I didn't even know about Daizenshuu EX as an entity until 2005 (and indeed, it was finding the podcast on iTunes around then that I even became aware of the site). If I recall correctly, I believe that they were around episode #75 or so when I began to listen. Unlike you, DragonBoxZTheMovies, I actually listened from episode 1 and simply kept listening until I caught up (which was definitely before episode 100, since when that episode came along I was very much caught up).

I haven't listened to every podcast and I never will probably, but I've listened to enough of them - and some of them more than once - to consider myself fairly well versed in how the podcast rolls and all that. I probably do have over 100 of them though, since I recently (after planning on it for a while) went back through the backlog and downloaded all of the ones that seemed to have interesting and non-dated topics.

 What's funny is that I never listen to a podcast for this forum. Never had the time. I do plan on listings to all of them one day.

I've been listening since day one, but I'm not one to re-listen.
This podcast is one of several things I use as background audio to listen to while I draw.

No, I haven't. I've listened to all of them released since I initially joined the community, but I didn't go back and listen to all the ones before that. I just looked back and found the ones that interest me, like the rest of the Manga Review of Awesomeness episodes.

I have not. I am listening to Episode 0301 where they discuss if Vegeta is a fighting genius, and was shocking to see my name being mentioned at around 13 minutes in. It was me to suggested that topic on facebook, and yes you said my name right!

Almost. Until recently, I kept up with every episode that was released. Within the last few months, I've skipped a few of the newest episodes, particularly the ones about Battle of Gods since I haven't watched it yet. I'm not one to re-listen to podcasts either, but I did go back to listen to the Gohan character analysis episode just for kicks. It's interesting to hear how much the podcast has changed since then.

I've listened to a majority. I started catching it around when I joined here. Then went back and listened to some of the older episodes when I first joined. Like the one with Steve Simmons (Episode 52) come to mind or 74 with Dogasu's e-mail about Pokémon. Yeah, I may have listened to them all but I think it's more likely that it's a majority rather than all.

I think I've listened to three. Maybe more. I liked the ones I listened to, but there's so many and I'm already desperately trying to catch up on a bunch of things I'm following!

Although I guess a good way to start would just to start keeping up with the new ones. At least I won't be getting further behind, anyway.

Yosh! Time to go listen to Episode #0349!

Well considering I just started listening to the podcasts about 4-5 weeks ago I'd say no! The one's I have listened to have been great and I love the enthusiasm from everyone speaking. I've started working backwards from the newest one's and but I don't plan to listen them all anyways! Not every podcast offers me something I'd be interested in hearing for 30+ minutes, but most do.

And they're all gonna be around here long after we're dead. So, in a way, those things are more realer than any of us.

I've listened to every one since I joined and have spent a great deal of time hunting back through older episodes to hear opinions on various things or to check out the ones dedicated to certain topics.

Most recently I listened to the one dedicated to the animators. Before that, it was various home release discussions - they certainly provided some entertainment

I've listened to them all. Some of the episodes I've probably heard five or six times.

I listen to a lot of podcasts, so maybe that's why I don't ever do this, but I have to ask:

Why do some folks in particular re-listen to episodes, particularly multiple times over like that? Now, I have indeed gone back and re-listened to certain episodes of our own show for a couple specific reasons (research into old predictions, to compare thoughts of previous releases, etc.), but I'm not actually a fan of anything in particular in terms of other shows to make me want to re-re-listen to any.

If you don't mind sharing and/or do happen to remember, which ones of our show have you done this with, and why?

Well, I know I listened to the infamous #68 (that was the orange brick one, right?) several times right after the DBoxes were announced just because it seemed to relevant at that point to go back and revel in the indignation and compare it to what I was about to experience.

I recently went back and listened to the episode that reviewed the 1st DB movie in order to compare it to the lackluster review I gave it in Dragon Ball Dissection to just to get an alternative viewpoint. So I guess in a general sense, I'd say I relisten to episodes when the content of it is something that becomes relevant to me at any given point, be it for research purposes or what happens to have caught my interest at that moment. Also, since I've been listening for so long, certain episodes I remember remind me of certain points in my life. I still remember following along to the Manga Review of Awesomeness for volume 15 while waiting through a technical rehearsal for the last show I did in college before I graduated.

To answer the original question, for many years I had listened to every episode. Now I have a pretty big gap from 2012-present, I believe. Real life got in the way, and with all of these topics related to things like BOG, which I still haven't seen, I didn't want to be spoiled, so I've stayed away a bit. Hope to catch up soon, though. I've always found it helpful to have on in the background to encourage me to do household chores I don't really want to do.

I enjoy the cast. You all have interesting enough things to say that the podcast is good to listen to while I play games that I don't need to hear (grinding sessions in RPGs, Zen Pinball, etc.). The banter also amuses me, especially when Meri's on. I guess the main thing that keeps me coming back to this particular show, though, is that I just can't seem to find other shows that I enjoy as much (and I play too many damn games, hence my need to have something to listen to :P ). For me a podcast is as enjoyable as its cast, and rarely do I come across a show that features people I genuinely enjoy listening to. It's not just the main cast, either. The Scott Melzer episodes are great. Teamfourstar's always fun. Even your buddy Andrew brought something to the show, even if he wasn't super knowledgeable on Dragon Ball. I should probably mention, though, that I will sometimes take months off from listening, then marathon some episodes.

As for which episodes I've listened to multiple times, it's mostly the older stuff. I'll do a marathon re-listen every so often, and I've been listening to the show since 2009. I think the only episode I ever listened to twice in a short period of time was the one where you read my contest entry (about Attack of the Saiyans). I was surprised that you & Meri enjoyed it.
