Who was Goku's best master?
Of all of the many masters who taught Goku, who would you say was the best or most important? I would probably have to say Mr. Popo and Kami because Goku seemed to change more after training at the Sanctuary. He seemed calmer and less prone to wildness. I also believe that it is only after training with Kami and Mr. Popo that Goku fully understands the nature of ki.
Kami is my co-pilot.
Re: Who was Goku's best master?
I gotta go with Master Roshi. His original master.
Re: Who was Goku's best master?
I would have said Korin as he taught Goku the importance of keeping a clear head and a calm mind.

Himself! He got some of the best results by training himself.

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

I would go with Master Roshi and King Kai! Both being very funny, but they really taught Goku something original.

Grandpa Gohan... instilled his original values and helped form his personality.

Good point. I never thought of Grandpa Gohan, but you are correct. Gohan did train Goku and was really his first teacher, even before Roshi.Polyphase Avatron wrote:Grandpa Gohan... instilled his original values and helped form his personality.

His first teachers was Saiyans. According to Toriyama. Goku was taught to destroy and even throw an attack ball at Gohan.Mr. Piccolo wrote:Good point. I'm going with Kaio, because I'm a rebel and will not stick with the popular consensus!

Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

King Kai taught Goku the kaio-ken and spirit bomb, Goku would've been screwed without these moves.

Re: Who was Goku's best master?
Goku is technically still King kai's student (adding BOG and excluding GT)..
I believe it's his training in Grand Kai's planet that pushed him to reach Super Sayien 3.

Re: Who was Goku's best master?
Debating between roshi and Kami + Popo. Roshi taught basics and strengthened Goku's instincts and all and made him into an actual martial artist, but then there's Popo and God who pushed Goku outside of his limits honed his skills beyond is original potential and pushed him to become the strongest man in the world. They taught him more than Roshi did.
Re: Who was Goku's best master?
Mr. Popo, hands down, because up until Popo, Goku had no real grasp on how to conserve energy and ki. Going off of the anime depiction, Popo is bar far the most hands on trainer, and Goku spent the most time there when compared to the time he spent with Kamesenin, Karin, and Kaio-sama.

Popo did more of his training. Kami did surprisingly little.TheGmGoken wrote:God was. Pretty much made Goku into his Z self
I don't know if one is any more important than the other. Every one of them has made an important contribution to Goku's development as a warrior.

Re: Who was Goku's best master?
My personal choice would have to be for his original master Kamesennin! He even went out of the way to teach Goku some needed school materials (at least in the anime adaptation).

They've changed my life - changed the way I act on the earth. Doesn't that make them kind of real? They might be imaginary but, but they're more important than most of us here. And they're all gonna be around here long after we're dead. So, in a way, those things are more realer than any of us.
