Or maybe cuz Toriyama is a pervert. lol just kidding. but seriously, i always picutre Toriyama in my mind exactly as Muten Roshi. it's like he represent himself through him. again, it's just one of the million weird thoughts in my head

But it's not unrealistic, right? That was meant to be a threatening situation for Bulma, and I doubt the soldiers would attack her without motive. It also allowed for the comedic lines such as "I don't suppose you mean playing the Famicom?" and "You mean things that you can't do in a gag manga for good boys and girls" or whatever the exact lines were.
Oh no, it's definitely not unrealistic, and it did have good gag lines. The whole scene is still played for laughs, so I don't really have a problem with it - but it's definitely one of the more '*shudder*' moments in the series, at least for me. I get more uncomfortable chills from that moment than I do anything with Roshi.

I can't remember in the manga (haven't read it in a while) but the perv jokes with Kame-senin in the anime went a little overboard for me. It isn't the fact that they are perv jokes but just that they're too redundant and don't bring anything new or funny into the anime. There are only so many ways you can show an old guy getting denied at his attempts for a female touch/grasp/etc.

They've changed my life - changed the way I act on the earth. Doesn't that make them kind of real? They might be imaginary but, but they're more important than most of us here. And they're all gonna be around here long after we're dead. So, in a way, those things are more realer than any of us.

For me too, mostly. I think it's because there's actually danger in the situation - Roshi is good at heart, and he wouldn't intentionally hurt someone, but those soldiers were evidently different. It was also, bar the dialogue, a more life-like representation of that kind of situation.

The most uncomfortable moment for me, though, is Roshi's use of the micro-band. That's the one thing that I think might have gone too far, and Roshi is doing something that's seriously illegal and just so, so seedy. Grabbing someone's butt and laughing about it is one thing, but secretly watching watching someone use the toilet? That genuinely is perverted, it's something that tends to be shed in a very dark light. I find it hard to find that scene funny, really.

Someone needs to read or watch Fairly Tail  . Dragonball had just the right amount. It wasn't a little I admit. BUt it was clean pervert moments. The most we got was Bulma's ass(And her tits in one scene). Most manga or anime today would show ass, tits, and other stuff(KENCHI!).

Dragon Ball is nothing on pervy moments. Just read a Go Nagai manga. If Osamu Tezuka is the God of Manga, then Go Nagai is the God of Ecchi.

Kekko Kamen ran in Monthly Shonen Jump from 1974-1978...the heroine of the story only wore a mask, boots, and gloves, ran around in constant, visible nudity (nips and all), and had an attack called the "Pubic Hair Jump", which had her leap at her foes legs spread, and ram them in the face crotch first.

That was considered Shonen in the 70s.

...You can see why the Japanese PTA hated Go Nagai.

So yeah, Toriyama was nothing compared to Nagai.

That said, Dragon Ball did have its fair share of pervy moments. I'd argue a lot of modern manga have more, they're just more censored than Dragon Ball was due to differing standards.

Kenichi and FT both show that. Now I think Kenichi is like one second away from showing full...vagina. Cause pretty much EVERYTHING but the "V" is shown. FT is close to going down that route as well.

I don't think it had too much, but I'm usually not a huge fan of perv humor, so I wasn't really sad to see it's quantity decrease once we hit Raditz.

Too much? Most of it happens in the very first arc and it is all just comedic nudity.

No, I don't think DB had "too much perv moments" because I am not a tumblr social justice warrior or a 50 year old house frau from Minnesota.

It's harmless fun.

How did it avoid showing her vagina? Was she just like a Ken doll like in Elfen Lied?

Dragon Ball was and will always be for kids but also open for everyone else who enjoys it, so saying "13+" that's what the western TV/distributors have given because they think it's too much for kids.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

What ? Shonen is a manga genre marketed to male audience aged 13 and up, and it's mainly marketed to males. so yeah, Dragon Ball is a manga/show for teenagers.

Mostly convenient angles and the occasional blocked shot.

This was as SFW a shot for the series as I could find quickly:
The man really has no shame...and he's only gotten worse as he moved into Seinen.

Shonen isn't marketed just to Teenagers, it's marketed to young boys up through teenagers, though the core audience tends to be more towards the pre-teens.

Dragon Ball when it came out it was targeted for kids and Kai had the violence toned down because of the same thing (even though it wasn't much of a difference) so it remains as for children, but it can be seen by anyone else. Implying that it's for 13+ audiences is wrong.

That's actually quite ingenious. It really bothered me in Elfen Lied when he just made everyone anatomically incorrect instead of just not showing those parts. Hell, just drawing those parts would have been better, it's a seinin manga.

Isn't there a separate kind for children? I thought the demographics of manga were divided as children, teenage boys, teenage girls, adult men and adult women?

Oh wait, you reminded me of something. in the Dragon Ball Z manga volume it's ranked for kids, all ages. but the original dragon ball is 13+ (since the english volumes part the manga before and post Z) i just can't understand, they're both classified as the same genre. so just cuz DB has some sexual comedy it's more mature than Z ?!
i think the japanese volumes calssify the manga as "13+" since it's not parted as the english volumes. it's one series under the name of "Draogon Ball"
