"Hirudega-n". And there's not much to "translate": it's a name. ^^;Catterix2006 wrote:Yeah, Herudigarn, that's pretty much just a romanization of the Japanese name, not even a translation lol.
It derives from "Hiruta" (the name of the... producer, I think?) and "ga-n" (his reaction regarding Hildegarn).Hildegarn doesn't mean anything as far as I know

And thanks for the Info Oliver, I'm a newbie for a reason
I love humans, always seeing patterns in things that aren't there.
Judging from what I've seen of FUNimation's trailers for most of its properties, they pretty much use audio from the actual dubs themselves.
So..
Apparently Hoi is now the last of his kind, rather than just being an evil magician bent on ruling and destroying with the aid of Hildegarn. Gotenks is being voiced solely by Goten's VA. Hildegarn's original roar has been replaced with a dubbed roar. And Goku now says Dragon Fire instead of Dragon Fist.
Kinda inconsistant for the most part with the rest of the dub, isn't it?
Hopefully I'm wrong about all of this and they decided to make audio just for the trailer. o_O

No it don't. What do you mean? I can see maybe Gotenks being voiced by one person being a little odd, but everything else seems like normal FUNimation dubbing standards.Apparently Hoi is now the last of his kind, rather than just being an evil magician bent on ruling and destroying with the aid of Hildegarn. Goku's said Dragon Fist in DBGT's dub and in Budokai 3.
This is an inconsistancy since they've said it before and now all of a sudden they don't use the actual attack name.
That and I believe we've also heard basic Oozaru roar kept in with a VA roar overlapping it before, whereas now it's just a dubbed roar for Hildegarn. :s

For some reason, when it comes to DBZ, FUNi feels like they must absolutely dub animals' or almost any creatures' (that appear in the show) voices. This includes Boo's pet dog, King Kai's pet monkey Bubbles, Higher Dragon (aka "Icarus", Gohan's pet dragon), Oozaru, that puma who got into comical situations with Gohan during the early episodes, and even Dr. Brief's pet cat who always hangs out on his shoulder. Shit, now that I think of it, birds are the only animals in the English dub of DBZ, whose voices (chirping) are left undubbed (at least as far as I know ofI believe we've also heard basic Oozaru roar kept in with a VA roar overlapping it before, whereas now it's just a dubbed roar for Hildegarn.
Actually, they done that before in the original. The thing is that the dub's gone from just the background roar (back in the early Season 1 and 2 days) to using a roar with an overlapped voice like the original. Whereas with Hildegarn, they're redoing the voice needlessly.Saiyan wrote:Actually, I think they redo the Oozaru roars too. When I watched Goku's SSj4 transformation in Japanese, they only had Masako Nozawa screaming..as opposed to the dub, which had a deep roar.

I'm a big fan of Kara Edwards' Goten, but that just doesn't make any sense.Tsukento wrote:Gotenks is being voiced solely by Goten's VA.
It reminds me of when the Majin Buu saga hadn't aired yet, and how I used to hear people talk about how they hoped dubbed Fusions had two voices like their Japanese counterparts. FUNimation actually followed through on that . . . and yet here in the last instance of Fusion we'll ever see, they suddenly turn Gotenks solely over to Miss Edwards? I don't get it.
There must be some mistake. Is Laura Bailey still there as Kid Trunks, or has this changed?

That's true. Come to think of it, I can't recall even one instance where any VA cast since Season 3 has not returned to reprise the role of a character later on. I was surprised when Linda Young reprised the Freeza role toward the end of the Majin Buu saga, for example, because I don't think she even does any other characters.
(Hmm. Though I'll admit when I first watched the dub of Movie 10, I was suspicious of Goten's new-ish voice. Of course, then it turned out I was suspicious of Videl's voice too, and was relieved.)

Well, my computer's finally not going screwy, so I was able to see the trailer. I haven't seen any of the original JP version outside of screenshots, but it looks pretty sweet.
When I saw Gotenks splitting into Goten and Trunks after getting hit, I instantly remembered Meri saying "Yes! More splitting of bodies!" when they were talking about the movie in one of the podasts. And I've gotta agree
!
And yeah, I also noticed Gotens slightly more kiddie voice, but I just sorta kept that thought in my head. Then again, there's a lot to complain about with dubbed movie 10 (curse you, heavy metal bands performing for BGMs
!)
Also, I guess I can deal with "Hirudegarn," but I was a little surprised to hear the accent be on the U instead of the I. Eh, we all know we'll buy it regardless of all of our complainsts and such (except for maybe the guys who've got the DragonBox for the movies).

Personally, I have been looking forward to this movie for a long time. And I'm sure I'll enjoy it no matter how the dub turns out.
We all know that the dub is far from perfect. I concede that the Japanese version has the distinct advantage of being . . . well, itself. But it's the dub that pulled me into Dragonball. I have a lot of fond memories surrounding it, and I know I'm not alone. And barring the remote possibility of Toei releasing new material years down the road, Wrath of the Dragon is the last I'm ever going to hear of the dub voices in a Dragonball capacity.
There's something to be said for that, I suppose.
So yes, there's going to be errors. They'll change names and add dialogue that wasn't in the original script, and they'll butcher the original musical score . . . but by this stage of the game, I think that those of us who like the dub have come to accept it for what it is, and on some level have even found a way to love it. We'll look past things like "Dragon Fire" and the baffling Goten-only Gotenks and remember a time when things were actually much worse, and then remember our humility and count our blessings that we had a dub of the Dragonball series at all.
And dub version or not, this movie marks the end of the DBZ universe as we know it.
The very fact that it is "The End" always makes me imagine a new beginning. I like chibi Goten and try to imagine that he had a little more training and a few more adventures before becoming a wasted character in GT. I like the idea of Goku and Vegeta fighting on the same side after spending so many years as cold warriors. I like the thought that there could have been something after Movie 13, and that the story can continue in the minds of the people who care about it so much.
I like to believe many things . . .
EDIT: Additional Nonsense

I seriously questioned whether or not it was actually Kara Edwards on my first listen, and flipped forward to the credits just to be sure. There must have been a decent gap between the end of the Majin Buu saga and when Miss Edwards came back to fulfill her roles in Second Coming. She's gotten better since the Great Saiyaman episodes.DaemonCorps wrote:And yeah, I also noticed Gotens slightly more kiddie voice, but I just sorta kept that thought in my head. She has to be, considering Trunks does speak in the movie you know. They can't edit that out, no matter how hard you try .There must be some mistake. Is Laura Bailey still there as Kid Trunks, or has this changed?
I've checked a couple of the sites and some of them still list Laura Bailey as VA for Trunks, but I'm leaving it alone until I can confirm it for myself, by watching the movie
Though by this point in time , due to the 'changes' done to the trailer, I'm leaving my hope in the fact that it is what it is - only a trailer.

Of course, though, I'll be selling it with my entire FUNi movie DVD collection once I do.
