DBZ & DB Fansub VHS & Memorabilia

Post by Elguapo » Mon Feb 10, 2014 7:03 pm

Hello dbz fans, just want to give you a little background info on myself. Mid 20's real deal old school DBZ fan, I have a lot of memorabilia and multimedia. That feeling when you discovered the Freeza saga on in cartoon network, most likely randomly during a marathon.. Looking at every dbz site on the internet & getting as much info as possible. Discovering that the series is finished and the Cartoon network is only showing most of the Freeza saga over and over..

When you finally discovered fansubs, "WOAH" when you find a comic store or site that sold em, HOLY SHIT! Watching the cell saga and movies when everyone else in America hasn't even seen Goku go SS1. The subs, wow, right. The cursing, the unedited blood, the perverseness of Master Roshi. Damn who knew DBZ was so hardcore, I remember having my mind blown.

When Gohan went SS2 against cell, with that music & that scream.. Dude, I still get chills just thinking about it..

Ok thats enough of that, so recently, I've had to start selling a lot of my DBZ stuff. I dont want too, its life man. One day ill buy it all back. So on one of my auctions I was selling all my old Fansubs, I got like 3 e-mails from people despertly wanting to buy them. I was confused, so I started doing my research and came to this site.

http://animepast.net/Time_Capsule/Fansu ... _Overview/

Which in turn led me here..

http://imgur.com/a/N9YZK#0 Gallery of what I got

Now I have allready started to transfer these to digital format, they are coming out alright, I know they could be better, so any advice on this would be appreciated.

I wanted to see how much interest there is from you guys in seeing these movies & episodes..

I plan on selling these, now hold on before you think, this guy is a pos if he really cared about sharing this piece of DBZ fandom with community he would upload it for free...

That is what I would think, but for the same reason I am selling my DBZ collection is the same reason I'm selling these. Life happens and I could use the money. I know very well these will end up on the internet for free and I'm cool with that. I want everybody who wants to see these to be able to see these. I have taken the time and effort to transfer these then convert them and all that jazz, so take that into consideration.. One guy in-particular really wants to buy the vhs tapes and he has no desire to transfer them to digital and share.

So let me know what you all think..

Here is my ebay store where I am selling my DBZ stuff, It would make me much happier for a real deal fan to own these, rather than someone who is just going to try and flip them. Take a look

I also figured you guys would appreciate this, this had to of been atleast 10 years ago... When I said I was a hardcore fan, I was serious..

I made a book, lol. Thinking about this now as an adult, my parents must of been like 'WTF'... I took some pictures of it, it should be a nice trip down memory lane for a lot of you old guys. All this content came from those old DBZ sites that have found their way to the internet graveyard aka wayback machine..

I had everything, sagas, power levels, profiles, video games, video game codes, figures... Just everything.. This was like my bible, between this and my fansubs, I was like the man in school..

Also in here is pictures of more of my collection and more of what will be for sale. Since this community seems to be the most active & relevant DBZ community Ill give you guys first dibs..

Its a trip looking at all this stuff again, it seems like yesterday... Man, these feels..

You really should contact takarajima. He's trying to make a digital collection of DB Z GT fansub VHS tapes.

Well, seeing as these are much harder to come across than official release (aside from the US Dragon Box Z 2), I'll definitely be on the lookout for your tapes. I may or may not buy them depending of how much you want for them, so I may not look like your ideal buyer. I'm not interesting action figures, either, quite frankly. Also, don't fret about not uploading these for free; it's great that you can contribute to the community what so many cannot. Life can kick you in the head pretty hard from time to time.

But, my personal advice is that if you really care about them to the point where you'd buy them back, which won't be easy, I would suggest finding other things to sell if possible.

I see there is a little interest gathering so I wanted to clarify something.

I was seeing if there was interest in buying a dvd version of these tapes. I'm currently transferring them all to digital, stabilizing them in after effects, making a nice dvd menu and stuff, designing dvd covers based on the vhs covers for each one.. You know, I'm putting in some work here, I'm trying to make a good legit product a dbz fan would appreciate.. I'm very aware that eventually these will all be online for free, as I said before, I'm cool with that. People who want to watch these are people like me.. If I didn't need the money, I would do this all for free.

I'll post some clips on here when I get them to that point, its a process and I'm learning as I go.

The actual VHS tapes are going to be for sale, there are quite a few people interested in these, on this forum and through e-mail. There is one guy in-particular who seems to really want them so if I had to guess he will prolly end up with them. He has no desire to transfer these and upload em, so keeping these alive and available for the community is on me..

I will contact the webmaster here, I also tried to get a hold of the webmaster for http://animepast.net/ but I haven't heard back. So if any of you know him, send him to this thread..

I love the idea of getting a catalog of all the fansubs online and available for dbz fans. I feel every real dbz fan should watch this version.. There is nothing like it and it really does have a place in dbzfandom its definitely unique lol

Nice as this is, I tend to prefer less flashy menus - especially with custom projects. When professionally done, they look all right; however, as is, this looks sort of sloppy to me. Perhaps if the text was there to start and the kintoun animation was the only one that came in?
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I don't really feel like the soft glow is doing you any favours nor the terrible kerning on that DBZ font.

Perhaps something simpler like this might be an idea?

The above isn't good by any means but it gets my point across, I hope.

I like that, and it kind of mirrors FUNimation's style in its simplicity. But Ajay hit the mark, it was more the glow on the text that bothered me than anythign else.

I actually really like that, with a few cool effects added, I think it would be pretty sweet.

I do see what your saying, with the glow and stuff. I was on the cusp of using a still image with some effects which is what I did. Or going all out and doing a full Animated menu...

I just dont know how I want to do this, on one hand I want to give tribute to how bootleg and sloppy some of these fansub vhs tapes were. Its kind of what gives it personality, to have a really nice menu with a vhs rip is kinda wrong ya know.. But I do appreciate your input, its exactly what I am looking for

This.looks.amazing. I would definitely be interested in buying a copy of your transferred VHS fansubs on DVD, as well as many other folks on here I bet. Keep up the good work and please keep us all posted as to what you're doing! This is great. Do you still plan to just sell the VHS copies to that guy you have been corresponding with, or will you put them up for auction?

I can see why you'd want an over the top menu in that case then. And I think you're right, a messy menu kind of just adds to that raw VHS rip kind of feeling. Well whatever route you go I need to have this in some form or another.

I appreciate the support, I'm definitely going to keep everyone updated. As far the VHS I still have them, I can put them up for auction but this one guy seems to really want them. I'll let whoever wants to know, know what the price is at through pm. But these are a lossless vhs rip, meaning it is as close as possible to an exact copy of the vhs you can get. The files end up being like 50gb, its ridiculous..

But I'm glad some of you are enjoying seeing this come to life, its a cool thing to be able to provide a chance for people to live & relive a very unique part of DBZ fandom.

I was watching DBZ fansubs while it was airing in the US as well. I watch DBZ on uncut fansubbed on VHS and on TV, it was so cool. I remember telling my friends on what happens during the Buu saga and no believe me. The first fansub copy I remember watching was in the 5th grade back in 2001 and it was Goku vs. Nappa subbed by Anime Labs. Anime Labs try to make DBZ sound like it was some NC-17 series with mindless swearing. Ctenosaur subs were pretty good since I found his subs pretty faithful. I never meet the guy, but I do remember hearing some wired things about him. The guy was satanist and pretty much had no social life going from what other people told me.
