This is great and all but the Japanese broadcast audio is a rarity which isn't normally found on the internet (or at least on most popular websites) so it's not the complete proper package.

Here you go: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
What so you think I'm actually bothered to use photoshop to adjust each frame of an episode?.....oh my god.If I did that, my results would break the scale. Also, not to mention I'm dealing with badly filtered and encoded footage that probably already has altered the original colours. My method isn't time consuming or pc intensive, you've just got to know how to do it right

Just look at this, it's a complete transformation. The goal was to make it look like an old, but restored broadcast episode. I exaggerated it, but still, this goes beyond "basic color tweaking". But of course I just applied the same thing to the entire scene--I was meant to change it when Goku used Kaioken

I'm sorry, what?! That looks terrible and there's absolutely nothing complex about what you've done to that image at all.
Applying a load of adjustment layers in whatever program you're using doesn't equate to complexity.
You've just crushed and over contrasted everything with a strange hue on top.
How on earth can you call yourself better than a professional. That's laughable.

I don't think you understand the point of what I done on that video. The point of it wasn't to even "correct" the colours. It was to make it look "old" and that includes making the colours look somewhat damaged. And no, trust me, it is still complex. You clearly have no idea of what I done...."adjustment layers"? The hell? And it's easy enough to say something is easy, but I mean do it properly and then see whether it's easy or not. Right now you're being even more arrogant than me--just constantly, self-righteously criticising, with no base at all.
Also, are you stupid? "Having a bunch of adjustment layers doesn't equate to complexity?" Are you really that much of an imbecile? What is that supposed to even mean? An adjustment layer could have sooooo many things, and if you've got several adjustment layers, which all have several things in them, trust me, it can go beyond "complex"....such pathetic arguments.

When it comes down to it, most people have absolutely no standards for video quality. No one who actually knows anything about film would accept this blurriness as anything but terrible. And remember, all of these alterations are deliberate!AjayLikesGaming wrote:I get more and more depressed when I see comparisons. I can't see how anyone can seriously call these good. Wouldn't even say it's worth the price.
A post I made on Blu-ray forum that got zero notice or replies:
"This is so blurry. http://i3.minus.com/iDxwOu9WTAyT1.png
It seems to have major problems with Bulma's face. http://i7.minus.com/i0se1fEmbcbgP.png
Well, anyone's face if it's not a closeup. http://i5.minus.com/iRDW2cZS7eVCL.png http://i7.minus.com/iLsdwbFy0efGV.png
Not as blurry but there's noise/compression to make up for that. http://i5.minus.com/iW9meAy3cFGUM.png
What a joke, and people will defend and praise this too. http://i6.minus.com/ibr4snZJPJqrxy.png"
People just don't care. Low prices and slipcovers will always trump a garbage transfer.

Yeah Glov3s, the guys at Blu-ray.com sure love Slipcovers and Steelbooks but not sure what their opinion is regarding picture/audio quality.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
I'm sorry, but I gotta touch on this one - while I agree that these Blurays look pretty bad (though some shots certainly seem to look better than others), there is something to be said for having too high of a standard when it comes to video quality too. Not all of us have this...this burning desire for things to look the best they could. So long as something is adequate enough, some of us prefer to actually sit down and watch something and enjoy it, rather than burn with righteous fury about how much better it could totally look. So if someone else actually doesn't mind how a release looks, then hey, that's okay. They're allowed to enjoy it and think it looks good to them, even if it doesn't make any sense to you.kidglov3s wrote:When it comes down to it, most people have absolutely no standards for video quality. Exactly what I was saying. Most people don't care. So we have flawed revisionist Blu-rays. Which is hilarious because the whole idea of increasing resolution should be to reveal further detail, and here Funimation is deliberately smoothing over whatever fine detail might be there.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I'm sorry, but I gotta touch on this one - while I agree that these Blurays look pretty bad (though some shots certainly seem to look better than others), there is something to be said for having too high of a standard when it comes to video quality too. Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
I think you missed the point I was trying to make. They 'don't care' to the same level about the footage quality, yes, but that by no means says they 'don't care' about the show itself. And again, not everything has to look 'SUPER AMAZING YAY' to be worth watching
I'm beginning to think I'm seriously the only one that grew up with a VCR and like two channels worth of crappy reruns of shows and had to deal with that for a good number of years before I even had so much as a DVD player.

I was not saying people don't care about DBZ, I was saying most people don't care about video quality, and in many cases don't really know what to look for to determine a quality transfer.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I think you missed the point I was trying to make. If your standards are low, your standards are low. It is what it is. I buy Blu-rays primarily for fine detail, on a level that LD and DVD cannot provide, and uncompressed audio, which DVD cannot provide. If a Blu-ray doesn't have these things it's not much of a Blu-ray, imo.
Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
Something being 'watchable' is irreverent to me. Shitty fansubs VHS copies are watchable.
This is Blu-Ray and 2014. The point of that format is to throw out the best quality possible that retains the original look of the show.
I don't 'blame' people for liking this release. They're uninformed or they have shitty taste - there's people like that in anything.
Doesn't change the fact this release is garbage.

Heh, I must be the only one who was glad they cancelled the level sets, I wanted a 16x9, bright, vibrant and grain-free release of my favourite anime. And now the powers over at FUNImation granted my wish
Man, this is the best DBZ has ever looked, IMO! Can't believe it's the same show I watched as a kid.

And I think we'll just have to agree to disagree here. Like I said, I don't like these Blurays either, but I take offense at the insinuation that someone who doesn't demand something be the best it could be has 'shitty taste' or 'low standards'. It just...reeks of videophile elitism, to me, honestly. I'm sure neither of you mean it to come off that way, but it really does. I'll just stick to buying whatever works best for me (which at this point would be the Dragon Boxes, if it wasn't for the rarity and prices...gah).

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
Someone has to acknowledge the actual quality of these things, because it's the acceptance of it that enables it to happen and continue. It's obvious that the critical voice is in the minority, so the odds of actually getting quality Blu-rays are not very high. Good thing there are the Dragon Boxes.Gyt Kaliba wrote:And I think we'll just have to agree to disagree here. Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
I fully agree. I dealt with VHS, and DVD was a great leap forward. Quite frankly, it's all I need in terms of video quality. I'm far more interested in extras and price. We all have our preferences, but videophiles have got to stop knocking people who don't care about having the most amazing video quality ever. There are a lot of criteria people use to make purchasing decisions, and price is likely higher up on the list than HD video. That said, I just want a proper aspect ratio.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I think you missed the point I was trying to make. I'd also like to see more episodes per disc. The Tenshinhan saga sets had 9 episodes and that was on DVD.

I've been reading comments here and there of people saying they like the orange bricks better and it blows my mind
I never thought I'd see the day where people actually defend that garbage pile of a release(Not that this release is Super amazing!!) but it's a heck of a-lot better.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

The OB releases for Seasons 6-9 definitely look better than this though.samuraix123 wrote:I've been reading comments here and there of people saying they like the orange bricks better and it blows my mindI never thought I'd see the day where people actually defend that garbage pile of a release(Not that this release is Super amazing!!) but it's a heck of a-lot better.
