My interest comes and goes, and although not often, sometimes I can be months without any interest in the franchise.

At around 2005 I started to lose interest in DBZ and from 2006 to 2010 I completly stopped following the franchise I only watched a couple of DBZ movies from time to time but that was it. It wasn't until 2010 when I decided to rewatch DBZ and since then I've been hooked.

One can lose interest in anything. Especially said Pizza Rolls after they change their recipe to taste even more processed than they already are. Pizza Rolls used to be in my house on at least a weekly basis, but like 5 years ago or so, after the Fire Nation attacked, they're lucky if a box makes it into my house during the whole year...

As for Dragon Ball, no. I have my ups and downs of how much I follow it in comparison to other things. but my interest in the franchise has never dropped by any significant amount.

I think I just spent four years straight away from the forums. That was because I had lost enough interest in the series to not want to bother discussing it. I think it was because there was nothing new for years on end. I was excited with the Episode of Bardock and the Battle Of Gods movie, but they're not by Toriyama and have the non-DB manga feel to them, so it wasn't enough to pull me back in. I'm only here now because I'm trying to track down English versions of Jaco, after having learned that it's a prequel to DB (even if it's not, I like Toryiama's manga enough to really want to read it).

Big factors in pulling me away from the franchise are revived interest in American comics, my writing career and the fact that I work 60+ hour work weeks. I've also learned how to bodybuild and train at gyms properly (WHY IS THIS NOT THE ENTIRETY OF P.E. CLASSES AS OF GRADE 7?! THAT'S HOW TO CURE THE OBESITY PROBLEM RIGHT THERE, FOLKS!), so I went from being obese to buff. This hobby eats up 90 minutes a day and puts me into a TV-watching mood afterward.

Jaco is a prequel to Dragon Ball, but you won't find English versions of the manga for the time being. Viz was running it simultaneously with the Japanese release in their Shonen Jump, but you can no longer purchase the old issues it was in. No choice but to wait for a volume announcement.

Toriyama wrote the whole Battle of Gods script himself, with interviews implying that only minor changes were made from his draft by bouncing ideas back and forth between himself and the actual script writer, Yusuke Watanabe, as well as having scenes cut during animation to keep it the intended length.

Yeah, I wish I knew about VIZ beforehand. Seems stupid for them to not sell back issues. Must be a licensing thing.

Thanks for the clarification on Battle of Gods. I was under the impression he was just a co-plotter at most.

Dayspring, seeing that you've posted a few times in this forum today, are you planning to come back again?

On topic, though, yes, I've lost interest in the franchise to a certain degree. Since the year of 99', I've been watching the series constantly without stopping for over a decade, specifically the "Z" portion of the series. This eventually burns me out and I threw away most of DB stuff, even Dragon Boxes. There's nothing interesting anymore. As of right now, I'm most certain I won't be ever watching DBZ again. It's the reason why I don't even bother with the useless debates in the in-universe section of this forum; it's not worth typing a letter.

I don't mind watching the original DB and GT, though.

I've lost interest in dragonball right now. It comes back though whenever something new comes out. Like Abridged.. I pretty much lost it after seeing BOG. Goku's Mom being introduced is pretty interesting though..

I haven't lost interest in the franchise however I've gone years without watching or reading the manga though.
It's like Superman or Batman, you go into it and out of it but they either come back better or worse, in the case of Superman it's been bad since the 80s... "I did enjoy the animated series"

This is the same for me. Except Man of Steel got me hyped for Supes last year. Currently, I'm in Spiderman and Godzilla hype.

I've never been to the point where I completely lost interest, but my level of fandom has certainly had ups and downs. Since I've been a fan for a long time and already seen/read everything, usually it's the news of something new that piques my interest again. Currently, I'm excited because of the continuation of Dragon Ball Kai, so that increased interest leads to me coming to the forums to see what everyone's talking about. None of the people I know in real life are big fans of Dragon Ball, so the Kanzenshuu community helps to keep that interest going by providing an outlet for that urge to discuss all the latest happenings!

I'm extremely unhappy with the franchise right now, and all of the new manga happenings going on don't interest me at all. However, I'm definitely watching Dragon Ball Kai when the new episodes start airing.
This is the episode of when Gokuh enrages himself after Freezer talk shit about Kuririn

My interest wavered in the last few years from how consistantly crappy the games started to become, I was willing to just drop the franchise altogether in frustration until Kai got me interested again. Then I came here. My interests basically stated positive and I stay firm in it now and just left the games behind seeing them as childish rather than the franchise.
Zephyr wrote:The fandom's collective fetishizing of "moments" is also ridiculous to me. No, not everyone needs a fucking "shine" moment. If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

I've never truly lost interest in it. There are just times I haven't been very focused on it.

My two biggest fandoms have always been DBZ and Star Trek, with a few things I loved but was less into. I just tend to rotate through my fandoms (or sometimes pick up a new fandom) in terms of what I'm focused on the most. And DB has come out with new material in recent years so it's undergoing something of a renaissance. I had been out of active DBZ fandom for many years and came back to find that there was a *hecklot* of new fan interest and new buzz, between Battle of Gods, DB Kai, a lot of fresh material from fans, and of course the TFS parody series... so it was like Christmas :D Plus there are some "super fans" like Derek Padula and flamingpoetica (on tumblr) who as of late really contribute interesting, philosophical analyses of the show and its characters.

I was a hard core Trekker forever, but the second Trek movie and a spate of uninteresting books kind of cooled that, and DB/DBZ took over again as my main fandom.

At some point DBZ will plateau again for me and I'll either rotate through my other fandoms, or I'll get into something new for a while.

If you don't mind my asking, what about Wrath of Khan cooled your interest? Most guys say that's either the best Trek movie or one of the best.

Hard for me to say what about Into Darkness did it. It was a fun watch (hey, I saw it three times in the theaters) and I was thrilled to see Section 31 in a film, but to me... there is something kind of shallow about new films compared to the old series.

But the main thing has been how anticlimactic Into Darkness seems to be for the fans I know. Part of what maintains my interest in something is if the fan base is still buzzing about it. The fan base is still buzzing, but it doesn't seem to have the liveliness, vigor, and energy I've seen in DBZ's fan base lately. It seems like in Trek fandom, all the same topics have been talked to death.

Oh, you meant Into Darkness. Thought you meant Star Trek II from when you said second movie.
