DBZ RPG for DS?

Post by Forte » Thu Aug 03, 2006 11:58 pm

I was browsing around on GoNintendo a few minutes ago and I came across this news story. I apologize if this info was posted before, but I couldn't find it.

If you look at the bottom-right of the image, you can easily see "DS/DBZ RPG", and it seems to be coming out in December. Obviously I can't read what it says, but it sounds like there may be a new portable Dragonball RPG in the works. Just a rumor, perhaps?

Man, suddenly there are so many games I want coming out for the DS - if only it had been like this at the console launch :(

Hrmm... I actually need to get that DS Lite after all.

Castlevania, Mario, Wario, JUMP Superstars, and now DBZ!!! :?
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Hmmm...as long as it isn't a new entry in the LoG series, then I say it looks promising...a new RPG for DBZ...we haven't had one of those in awhile... :P
I really, really need to get back into the habit of posting.

Here's what I would like to see in this game:

Storyline - Since it seems like it'll only go through DBZ, I'd like it to show many different perspectives on the same event. Like Raditz searching for Goku, Gohan training with Piccolo for the year, Vegeta and Nappa on their way to Earth, etc. It shouldn't always be centered on what Goku is doing at the time. It'd be cool to take control of the minor characters even for a short time.
Also, I would like to be able to play through all 13 movies at or around the time they're supposed to take place in the storyline. You could have the choice to take a side-trip and play through the movie during the course of the adventure.

Characters - As stated above, I'd like to be able to take control of the minor characters at their pivotal events in the story. Taking control of Yajirobe and cutting of Vegeta's tail would be awesome, wouldn't you agree? But the game should obviously center on all the main characters, but allow each of them to be chosen during anytime during the game (unless story events don't allow them to be chosen because they're dead/haven't been introduced yet/somewhere else/etc).

Graphics - I'm not very picky on the graphical style, actually. I liked the GBA games overhead Zelda-esque style and wouldn't mind seeing that again. Although, if they decided to take the graphical style of Phantom Hourglass (overhead w/ cel-shading), they could give it more of an anime-quality than you could get with the basic sprites.

Battling - This one is a little difficult for me to decide. I liked the battling of the Legacy games, but that made them a bit too easily. Having brought up Phantom Hourglass though, I'd like to reference the battle system it's supposed to have. Apparently it will switch to an almost full 3-D plane for you to fight bosses in. It would be interesting for them to implement something like that in a DS DragonBall RPG, but only if they don't have an entire world you could get lost in, like Sparking had. It would be interesting to have on the DS though, would it not?
As for minor enemies, they should just keep it like the Legacy system.

This is just my opinion. It may be wishful thinking, because who knows if it's coming out in other languages? Doesn't matter too much though, I'll still import it if need be (gotta use that DS Lite for something!).

Someone posted a link at Gamefaqs that mentions a DBZ RPG for the DS. It's in Spanish though but it does have a picture from The SNES game "The Legend of the Super Saiyans." I'm praying that that game is being ported to the DS but I doubt it.

I just got my DS Lite two days ago. Rumor or not this is very interesting, a good idea for the next DragonballZ DS title. I know that it will offer new and fun features, but I'm hoping for an original story.

We are talking about a Dragonball game. It will always be the same story.

No kidding, not expecting it but it would be nice. It will probably have little side stories like the LOG games, Budokai games, etc... I'm certainly waiting for something a bit more, but I'm fine with that and it will probably offer more visually going through the story. We'll have to see.

I think the perfect DBZ RPG would be one with a graphics overhaul
and have new characters join your team after you progress through each arc of the main games story.

I also think DBZ would benifit from random battles and gaining experience
to learn attacks and maybe learn secret attacks for finding items.
I would like an original story But, It wont happen so I would like it to cover DB-DBGT and maybe have an intresting use for the touch screen.
