I'm really still not liking this artwork. Gohan's head is enormous in the Season Six artwork.

I guess you can say that since FUNimation has released plenty of different releases for their fans but with the Blu-ray era they're wasting it with low budget remasterisations.FortuneSSJ wrote:Wow American fanbase is spoiled a lot by Funi![]()
Here, they just released the VHS back then and thats it
By the way, you've got Portugal as your country, so in case you're not aware the DBGT Portuguese dub was released on DVD but for only the first four episodes and it was cancelled afterwards.

I just learnt that some months ago. They didnt advertise it much back then.dbboxkaifan wrote: I guess you can say that since FUNimation has released plenty of different releases for their fans but with the Blu-ray era they're wasting it with low budget remasterisations.

And the store that selled those, called "Fnac", wasnt near for me to go there. But now, in my lunch time as payback, I'm always there reading the manga.

From what I saw, one of the special features is cast interviews. Features just the english cast or the japanese one too?!
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Only American cast members so far (though one of the bonus features did have some interesting footage of what seemed to be some members of Toei's staff working).FortuneSSJ wrote:-About these Blu-ray-

Really, I think the Blu-Ray sounds a little scratchy compared to the Dragon Box. As for the the covers, I think they did a pretty decent job on the main characters fighting but the characters behind it aren't the best

I have to say that I really really enjoy the artwork for all the revealed copies! I know a lot of people have some problems with them and their quality but for me they definitely do the job. I'm not one to scoff at the little details and they are far from deal breakers.
I'm really excited to see the reveals for the last three covers. Funimation has really done a great job at giving buyers an incentive to have these blu-rays. They will make a very nice image when they all see a release! It makes it that much easier to purchase all of them as well! :p

Really? And what does the Dragon Box sound like to you? Would you agree that it is a very muffled audio source at the least?TheKingOfKamehamehas wrote:Really, I think the Blu-Ray sounds a little scratchy compared to the Dragon Box. I find the Japanese audio on the BD to be much better than what the Dragon Boxes offer. And this is coming from someone who watches both the Dragon Boxes and the BD version on a daily basis.
So what makes the BD version seem so scratchy? I will definitely attempt to listen in on it the next time I put it on the tele because I think the audio is just straight up quality! And it is the best they could do with what they have to work with.

See, that's another bonus that I really have to applaud Funimation for. I mean I can't really say what it really is. Does Funimation just set the bar so low that my expectations are just that much easier to meet? Or are they actually attempting to put out a decent release?MagicBox wrote:Only American cast members so far (though one of the bonus features did have some interesting footage of what seemed to be some members of Toei's staff working).FortuneSSJ wrote:-About these Blu-ray-

I appreciate the fact that they have included a lot of the old bonus features because it makes justifying this purchase even easier for someone who never owned many of the older Funimation releases. I suppose anyone could just go on Youtube to look them up but the point is having them on an actual disc to watch at one's convenience. So I am a little more impressed with Funimation at this point. They could have released a bare-bones package and not had to put down any cries of laziness but they included the features anyways.

Well I saw a comparison video, but I can't find it. I feel kind of lazy to make one so... does that mean that the Blu-Rays are close to the Dragon Boxes?

What comparison video did you watch? These sets are nothing like the Dragon-boxes quality. Even though I like this release it will never be a Dragon-box quality type release.TheKingOfKamehamehas wrote:Well I saw a comparison video, but I can't find it. The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
All it means is that they cleaned up the audio a bit on the BD version. It doesn't mean it's a better overall release than the Dragon Boxes and that wasn't what I was saying.TheKingOfKamehamehas wrote:Well I saw a comparison video, but I can't find it. This release, for me and for many others, has the Japanese audio presented in the clearest fashion I've seen beyond the original broadcasts. The audio clean up, along with the custom box art, are both reasons why I've chosen to support this release.

I'm confused... What do cel scans have to do with this release? If you're suggesting that the 16mm film could ever look that good, then you're completely wrong.Kojiro Sasaki wrote:If you want to understand the crappiness of this release better, check these scans:

If you consider someone to be a complete idiot, do not waste your time talking with them. But if you consider your discussion partner to be an intelligent person, try to figure out what they mean.Metalwario64 wrote:I'm confused... What do cel scans have to do with this release? If you're suggesting that the 16mm film could ever look that good, then you're completely wrong.
If I had 8K digital scans of the cels and backgrounds, I would use them. There are tons of unfair comparisons favouring this release (or not favouring but still unfair). There is a need to balance them by adding some unfair comparison, which switches "the crappy one" and "the good one" positions.
If you still don't understand what these scans have to do with blu-ray release, I will tell ya. FUNimation is advertising their product as "modern looking". They are saying that, with the use of modern technology, they were able to eliminate all the flaws of 16 mm film and they made this show look like something produced today. These postcards are showing how Dragon Ball would look after "skipping" most of the photographic film flaws. Compare it to the crap FUNimation gives us.
These are scans of postcards from 1986. As you can see, not only cels but also backgrounds are present there. It's possible that these shots were taken during the original production of the TV series. I believe that they are the exact representations of the original frames (I haven't checked it).Metalwario64 wrote:They're cels.ABED wrote:Where are these from?

Well, I said I was confused, because you didn't really explain your point, and instead just said that those cel photographs explained everything. You ought to describe what you mean, rather than being rather vague....try to figure out what they mean.
Besides, I think the "quality" of the footage speaks for itself.

Yes, you're right. I should have wrote some description of my point. I haven't done it because I was in a hurry when I posted these links. English writing is still hard for me (it takes time) and sometimes I'm just too lazy to sit and think how to convert my thoughts into proper EnglishMetalwario64 wrote:I said I was confused, because you didn't explain your point, and instead just said that those cel photographs explained everything. I wrote a couple of posts in this topic, you wrote a couple of posts in this topic. My comment was related to what you said about 16 mm film. I wasn't expecting that you would think that I wanted to say that "this is how 16 mm to digital transfer should look".

So you are going to prove to people how bad the new release is by... showing them scans of material from another show that aren't even indicative of the quality of THAT show?Kojiro Sasaki wrote:There are tons of unfair comparisons favouring this release (or not favouring but still unfair). If anything you are just going to 'prove' to those same people that the new release is good.
