Comedy and serious acting can be really different. I've seen some of TFS cast do other serious fandubs and they went that good. I think that's one reason why people should remember that they are a comical parody series.

I think if we see them more serious, I think that they could do it. TFS dub is one of the most best fan dubs I have ever seen. It always makes me laugh so I think I would enjoy it. I also like that they also kind of resemble the old Ocean Dub which is awesome!

People have to remember that acting convincingly is a skill. Acting convincingly while also being funny is a skill on top of a skill. So if you have an actor who is shown to be able to do both, then they can often do the former without doing the latter. So, yes, I honestly believe they could pull it off.

Probably. They're a talented bunch, and I think Kaiser said they would handle it much differently if they did a straight dub. The cast would probably go through some changes one way or another, though.
Re: Would you enjoy an official dub done by Team Four Star?
Of course I would. However, I do agree that because of the job they did with DBZA, I would constantly be on the edge of my seat for a joke. When a group does an excellent job with a parody, I constantly expect comedy when I see them associated with a work they've parodied. While I am more than eager to see what other endeavors they do in the future, them doing DBZ as a serious work would be a little distracting.

I don't like Abridged. I don't think it's funny, and I don't like it when parody FAN dub is compared to the dub like it's a legit dub. It's a pet peeve.

Re: Would you enjoy an official dub done by Team Four Star?
A lot of the TFS voices at their core are impersonations of voices I very very much dislike from the official dub so it wouldn't do much for me. I do love MasakoX as Goku, with proper direction he'd be the first English Goku voice I'd feel comfortable with. Even with the dub of Kai Goku is easily in that top percentile of voices that even an accurate script won't fix for me. I truly do feel like MasakoX has Goku down pat though in so many ways.

Basically anyone can do a faithful dub but that isn't enough if the voice actors/actresses aren't up to the task so sometimes dub fans would rather take an inaccurate dub over an accurate because it has better voice acting regardless of its accuracy.
P.S.: MasakoX's Goku feels like a hybrid of Peter Kelamis and Masako Nozawa merged into one, so that's awesome.

Everyone points to MasakoX, but even his acting is terrible. It's fine for a parody, but he's not a good actor, and his voice is terrible for the character. Kelamis was terrible as Goku so I don't see how that helps his case.

I think we're more on the same page than you think. I'm totally not saying that exact voice and most certainly not that exact acting should be lifted straight out of TFS and tossed into a real recording booth to work on the show. All of that would need to be honed for a few years for sure. Ultimately though I can't see any real downside to that voice at its core. To my ears it certainly works far better than Sean or Ian's Goku. I'm not even saying that it's the perfect English voice for Goku just a really good one and certainly one of the best I've heard thus far.ABED wrote:Everyone points to MasakoX, but even his acting is terrible. I want to say you may be having a hard time trying to separate that voice from the lines it delivers which believe me I get how sour that voice is when you immediately associate it with "MUFFINBUTTONZ SO RANDUM XD" but you say you're not a big Kelamis fan either so we may just have a different idea of what Goku should sound like.

MasakoX given the opportunity to do a serious job he'd very likely be up to the task, and did I read correctly.. "Kelamis was terrible as Goku" really?ABED wrote:Everyone points to MasakoX, but even his acting is terrible. How exactly was Peter Kelamis a horrible Goku in your opinion?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuViG2-w_To < This video right here shows how much Kelamis took the role seriously with the voice acting, script and more. Kelamis is my English Nozawa, but MasakoX is a safe second place.

Re: Would you enjoy an official dub done by Team Four Star?
Yes, he's terrible. He got MILDLY better in the movies, but his delivery is still awful and goofy. The unnatural cadence of his delivery is weird and offputting. Showing me a video of his battle sounds proves very little.
Even a green Schemmel is better than Kelamis and MasakoX. I like Sean, I think his voice works very well for Goku. I don't think Goku's voice should be deep or high. It just needs to convey a good natured, fun loving, fighting maniac, manchild. I think both Nozawa and Schemmel do that in their own ways.

I find it funny you use these words because my exact issue with Sean and Ian's Goku is that they aren't goofy, weird and off putting enough. The Funi dub is full of these wacky derpy voices for characters that don't really need them at all and yet Goku got saddled with this boring GoodGui Everihero voice. Sean's acting in Kai does all it can to make that voice work and honestly its as good as its going to get but that voice itself is such a huge detriment it doesn't work for me.ABED wrote: his delivery is still awful and goofy. FUNimation on their Kai dub had the chance to make Kaio-sama sound like a serious character but instead he's goofy, lisping and just not what you'd expect to hear from one of the Gods.

Maybe in the old dub, but not in Kai and that's not his fault, that blame lies with the director. I'll take Sean's straightforward delivery over Kelamis anyday. Corlette is also a better actor than Kelamis. Goku isn't goofy, naïve and lighthearted, sure, but not goofy or Goofy. Nadolny suffers from the weird rhythm thing as well.Akumaito Beam wrote:I find it funny you use these words because my exact issue with Sean and Ian's Goku is that they aren't goofy, weird and off putting enough. Re: Would you enjoy an official dub done by Team Four Star?
I disagree on both fronts. Sean's Goku is entirely too bland and boring even in Kai. It's out n' out a boring action hero voice. That and Goku is goofy, we're reading two different stories if you don't think Goku was meant to be goofy. He's an idiot. That's why he's fun. I think giving the character any more credit than that is missing the point of him completely.ABED wrote:Maybe in the old dub, but not in Kai and that's not his fault, that blame lies with the director. Again though, I'm speaking more about the voice itself not the acting. I agree that if either MasakoX or Kleamis were to pick up these roles I'd want them far more tuned up in the acting department than what we've seen from them in the past.
edit: Also we agree on Nadolny, I'm not a fan of hers at all.
Re: Would you enjoy an official dub done by Team Four Star?
I've watched a ridiculous amount of action movies in my day, and I can tell you, Schemmel (especially in the case of his Kai performance) does not sound like an action hero...at all. Between this and the "Super Hero" complaints, I'm starting to think people are either just trying to insult his work due to not liking it, or they legitimately don't understand what they're comparing it to. As a big fan of both Action Movies (especially 80s Action...love me some 80s Action) and Super Heroes (be it comic, cartoon, or movie, from the Golden Age to the Modern Age), I'm tired of such off claims, without any proper backing.Akumaito Beam wrote:I disagree on both fronts. Besides, even Mike said in his review of the first Kai set that Schemmel captures that "happy, nonchalant, everyday version" of Goku well (and he's not an old dubbie relying on nostalgia, his Goku is Masako Nozawa).
As for Peter Kelamis, I like his work, but he really more time to make Goku his own, like Schemmel got to. It could have been a better performance if that were given with a Kai-level treatment. An actor's gotta make a role their own before they can truly shine.
RIDER KIIIIIIICK!
