DBZ Dub Bloopers

Post by TheBlackPaladin » Wed Mar 19, 2014 8:44 pm

I know this won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I found a video of Chris Sabat at a con, letting people hear the audio of some bloopers made during the DBZ and Kai dubs. Interestingly enough, one of them is a blooper intentionally recorded for fun, in which Chris Sabat instructed Kyle Hebert to read--with as sincere emotion as he could--the translation of a certain line from the original Japanese. We've heard from Steve Simmons and others that, during the days of the DBZ dub, FUNimation was provided "rather haggard" English translations by Toei, and it was interesting to hear one of those haggard translations spoken out loud.

The video is here. Be forewarned, some of the outtakes are for the 18+ crowd.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

"Cell, I'm going to rape you" and the audience laughs. :?

This reminds me of the moronic viewers from Big Bang Theory that laugh at Sheldon's mental issues as well as other things that aren't even funny at all.

According to that other wiki, and if there was another place I could go to find this information I would, Sabat is Porunga in any and all dubs... so that was him dropping the n-bomb?

Yep, that would be him who recorded it. I would like to see more bloopers on the Kai Buu DVD/Blu-ray ala the FMA: Brotherhood ones.

Whether the n-word is said by a black person (can be from anywhere around the world not just African American) or brown, white, blue or what have you it is never pleasant to hear it and it shouldn't be supported by saying "only a black person can say this".

We're in 2014 and some people still say this as if it's something good or funny.

By the way, when I read YouTube comments trying to be offensive by calling a white person as "cracker" it cracks me up because that's something people eat every now and then (cheese crackers, crackers with butter on them or just simple).

That video was put up in 2011. Get over it.

Though I do agree with the cracker statement to an extent.

All kinds of people say it. It depends on the context, the environment and the setting. I know white people get nervous when I say it, but they shouldn't be. It's like "dude"... to me anyway.

I have black friends as well and we say to each other. We never say it an offensive way.
It is clear that sometime in Mark Satan's life, he acquired the dragon balls and called upon shenlong to grant him immortality.

I guarantee you are getting more displeased ( couldn't think of another word  ) then most black ppl ( I'm assuming you aren't black? ). I use it all the time as a synonym for bro when talking to my friends and needless to say some are black.

The entire DBZ English dub was a blooper.

Not as long as it still has vehement fans and a company that still celebrates that version in its various releases.

Well now we know why the dub was so bad. They were too busy entertaining each other by making predictable ejaculation, gay, and racist (...sort of) jokes.

Actually I don't really care; I'm past the dub. BUT, it's still awful, and really should have been committed to the dustbin of anime-in-America history in a world with justice. Which, ya know, I don't have to tell you.

Side note: can anyone decipher the "haggard Toei translation" line please? I'm bad with con audience videos, dat echo.

I'm black and I think other people getting offended over the n-word on our behalf is incredibly annoying. I say it, other black people say it, case closed.

ANYWAY, this is really great stuff. Thanks, OP. It's really fucking hilarious hearing the DBZ voices say all of this ridiculous shit
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!
