Dragon Ball Comparisons (Dragon Box vs. Blue Bricks)

Hey all,

Now, this is SOLELY for screencaps. Not for discussion on how the DVDs differ from eachother. So, here's some Dragon Box shots from episode 122, which I think is on the Season Four box. I apoligize, but I don't own the Blue Bricks, so having some corresponding shots would be nice.

Goddammit, I have DB Season 4, but unfortunately I left it at home when I went to college, so I won't be able to provide caps

Also, those caps aren't the best quality - they're .jpgs. You should instead view your DVD in Media Player Classic, and for the screencaps, set it so that it saves everything as pngs. Then, resize the 720x480 screencaps to 640x480.

Yeah, those screens seem excessively grainy for a Dragon Box release. Not really a fair comparison without higher quality captures.

Well, I took it upon myself to get out my Blue Brick and take some comparison shots, so here ya go! ^_^

Dyamn they're bright. It's a problem I run into now. Now that I own the DBZ Dragon Box, I'm doing a kind of Japanese to dub comparison (names, attacks, places, miscellaneous information) and since the Dragon Box doesn't come with the dub's subtitles (very inconvenient for my sort of project), I have to whip out the old singles and HOLY CRAP the difference is jarring. My eyes almost literally hurt when I see the singles. And here I was hoping that the Dragon Ball Season Sets would be a decent comparison to the Dragon Box.

Don't JPEG the Dragon Box shots, and don't downscale the Season Set shots. Otherwise you ain't getting much of a comparison.

On that note, I could probably take some shots of the spanish seasons for the hell of it. Should make for a fun comparison.

Could I get some comparisons for the Pilaf and and Tournament sagas? I want to know how different the colors are. With the possibility (http://www.funimation.com/blog/2013/02/ ... hats-next/) of a North American Dragon Box release in mind, I may pass on buying the season one blue brick.

Seems like FUNimation masters of the early arc had less footage than Dragon Box but necessarily nothing important was lost.

Huh, the difference between Dragon Box and the Saga Sets release is minimal, it's less grainy, colours look better and slightly cropped.

Now for the Blue Bricks just think of this Saga Set screenshot zoomed in and DNR'd there you go, you have the Blue Brick shot.

I had a look at the Blue Brick set and it is pretty much identical, with the cropping and DNR:
