I know Toriyama is doing his own thing, separate from the anime timeline. BUT, using the combined history of the franchise that doesn't contradict anything so far, I like to think that Bardock was no older than 30 when planet Vegeta blew up. Seeing how that's two year later in the manga now than in the anime, that means Bardock would have to be 28 there. It's putting him fairly close to being an even more wild and reckless teenager, and conveniently right around that Saiyan growth spurt into an adult body, during the Saiyan-Tsufruian war, which I think would work for his character. As such, I also prefer Radtiz not being much older than Vegeta. Maybe about 7 when their planet exploded in the anime, so 9 for the manga...Chuquita wrote:Kid!Raditz would so clear up how much older (roughly) he is than Gokû (I was always under the impressions by doujinshi that the age gap was similar to how Gohan and Goten's is, but for all I know Raditz and Gokû could be much closer in age). I just realized... is it just me or is Goku pressing his hand on something? Perhaps a the window of the space pod?
Check out Journey's End, a short story of Goku and Vegeta's final days. "Time is running out for the last two Saiyans"
Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion (Tankōbon April
That was my first thought when I saw the image. Maybe he actually watched the destruction of Planet Vegeta? Or is he watching Gine send him off? It makes me think that this extra chapter will be a bit more dramatic than I would expect from Toriyama.by soulnova » Tue Mar 25, 2014 1:01 pm

Can't wait to read it! (in January 2015...)

Waiting for a explanation for the title "minus".
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

I guess it's because this is "DB Chapter -1", since it's set before Chapter 1.FortuneSSJ wrote:Waiting for a explanation for the title "minus".
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion (Tankōbon April
According to Jaco's crazy numbering style (Chapter 1 was "1/10+1 DB-11", Chapter 2 was "2/10+1 DB-10" etc until finally Chapter 11 which was actually numbered "+1/10+1 DB-1"), Jaco Chapter 11 was technically "Dragon Ball Chapter -1"
My guess is that this new chapter takes place before Jaco Chapter 1 aka DB-11, making it sort of "Dragon Ball Chapter -12," BUT just calling it "Minus" without a specific number makes it a little more open-ended, and allows the possibility for stuff to be shoved in between it and Jaco chapter 1, I suppose!

We bough it, when it was running in the digital US Shonen Jump simultaneous with Japan during the second half of last year. If you want to purchase it in English, you're going to have to wait until January of next year.

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion (Tankōbon April
And that's going to include the Dragon Ball Minus story also?
What's this about Goku looking like a little kid when he was sent to Earth as opposed to a baby?

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion (Tankōbon April
I don't think there hasn't been any word on whether it will or not, just that Jaco is being released that day digitally and in print. The English volume should theoretically be the same as the Japanese one in terms of story content though, so it should include it.Bullza wrote:And that's going to include the Dragon Ball Minus story also?

As for Goku, Jaco the Galactic Patrolman takes place within a new continuity Toriyama seems to have established in regard to the stories he has either written himself, or had a high level of involvement in. Said works consist of Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, Dragon Ball, Heya! Son Goku and Friends Return, and Battle of Gods at minimum. While no one has come out and said the dreaded c-word, a lot of fans who argue that the manga is the basis of the franchise's canon should probably agree that this is the closest thing to a canon that the franchise has. Though I'd hate to actually define it as such.
Confusingly first established in Battle of Gods, and finally indirectly explained in Jaco, Planet Vegeta is destroyed two years later than in the anime for this continuity. So, Goku is sent out to Earth as 2 year old Saiyan child in AGE 739 instead of his birth year (and anime destruction of Vegeta), AGE 737. Despite this seeming odd and confusing some fans, we never actually see how old Goku was when he arrived in the manga. There are some images of baby Goku, but they are all in thought bubbles of people who weren't there when he landed (Raditz and Kame'sennin). As such, there is no contradiction with Goku looking as he does here.
Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion (Tankōbon April
So going by the canon material of what you mentioned from Jaco through to Battle of Gods and ignoring the anime version then Goku being 2 when he was sent away isn't a contradiction or retcon?
Is Dragon Ball Online apart of this canon or what?

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion (Tankōbon April
Nope. The only date is in regards to how long ago planet Vegeta was blown up in the manga is Freeza saying it happened 30 years ago, but he was only estimating and that's actually too far in the past for either version. The only times we visually see baby Goku are when Raditz arrives and thinks about finding his brother and when Kame'sennin tells us about Goku hitting his head. The first one could just be the last time Raditz had seen his brother since Saiyans are often off on missions and Roshi had only been told that Gohan found a young boy that was a bit wild until he hit is head, but he obviously had never actually met Goku before he brought back Umigame, so he wouldn't have known how old to imagine him when recounting Gohan's story. Though, both instances are in thought bubbles and don't need to be taken as literal representations.
No, Dragon Ball Online doesn't technically fit, sadly. The developers only had the rights to the manga, but they used the Daizenshu's anime influenced timeline dates. Toriyama's new decision to have planet Vegeta destroyed in AGE 739 contradicts the game having Goku sent off as a baby and arriving on Earth in AGE 737, where the players take him to Gohan.

Most likely DBO has some contradictory elements in point of view of new present operas with Akira Toriyama deeply involved, and Jaco is most likely a true prequel of DB manga, as it was created by Toriyama solely.

Well I have no problem with DBO not being canon at all. So that'd only be good news for me.

So is the badge a metal button? I was hoping it would be the Galactic Patrol symbol, like a badge as if you were a Super Elite yourself
Oh well. The key chain looks cute!

I was really hoping that was what it was too. No particular reason though, other than I think that would have been cooler...medama_oyaji wrote:So is the badge a metal button? I was hoping it would be the Galactic Patrol symbol, like a badge as if you were a Super Elite yourself

The card doesn't look nice... (it should have been a DBH card to play as Jaco in DBH)

Regarding my order from cdjapan, I have indeed already been charged, just went to the bank to sort some PayPal stuff out and seen the money debited. Seems strange since some folks said they won't charge until they dispatch. Maybe it is because I used PayPal? Then again I pre-order from Zavvi via PP and they don't charge until they ship.
