Would anyone be able to add the Rock the Dragon framing to this image? Or, at the very least, show a screen from that set?

Here you go

Also, if anyone is interested, here is what a 4x3 season set quality set might look like (it even has the expanded sides the season set has) *screenshot from qjz123*

If we can find a way to combine both the 4:3 and 16:9 sets, even if the result would be a frakenstein show, it would definitely be a novelty to experience. I don't get why they don't just slap the full image on there... Maybe with 4k tv?

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about the fans a re-issue might alienate because if all they're concerned about is being able to scalp the people who were either unaware of the Dragon Boxes or couldn't afford them at the time, they're just leeches and deserve to have their greed backfire on them.

Ah, I see. Sorry then.AjayLikesGaming wrote:Because we're not comparing the same thing. This just makes me wish that Funimation would allow us to buy raw releases of DB. I would really love to just see the whole picture, even with the scratches and general uncleanliness of the video. It would definitely be much better than what we have in the current season sets.

And if people wanted to remove the grain they'd have the feature there to use as well as cropping/zooming it in, while it's true that it doesn't compare to a professional remastering job it's fine just to watch it.RocktheDragon wrote:This just makes me wish that Funimation would allow us to buy raw releases of DB. I prefer to watch it unfiltered with all the grainy in 4x3 AR but with improved colours though (Goku's gi being orange than red).

It's long since been established by multiple people that you don't have the technical knowledge about these types of matters when you keep making statements like this, so please stop.dbboxkaifan wrote:And if people wanted to remove the grain they'd have the feature there to use as well as cropping/zooming it in, while it's true that it doesn't compare to a professional remastering job it's fine just to watch it.
Anyone just generically talking about doing a quick film scan and just throwing it on the disk has no idea what they are talking about in regards to dealing with video, DVDs, Blu-ray, or anything that falls under these categories, and should be ignored.
I'm perfectly sure there is some horribly overpriced ultra niche release done by a one man studio that sold 10 copies of some movie no one has ever heard of (my guess if such a disk exists it will be some random low budget Italian horror film) and for a random 10 dollar DVD that has 4 hours of random public domain cartoons on it, but let's be honest. Those releases are trash, far and away worse than anything any DBZ fan has had to deal with regarding this franchise.
You can complain the current sets look terrible (they certainly don't look good to me, but then I've seen plenty worse done to animation) but at least someone gives half a shit enough about DBZ that it can get messed up. It's certainly better than it being forgotten and thrown on a disk where no one even knows what's on the disk.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
What's exactly wrong with doing a quick film scan and throwing it on a disc? What's the general problem with just giving us raws? I don't mean as a featured set release but say as an option to order directly from Funimation. I've heard that some movie studios allow the buying of simple raws for some classic films, though I'm not sure to the extent of that and could be misinformed.MarcFBR wrote:It's long since been established by multiple people that you don't have the technical knowledge about these types of matters when you keep making statements like this, so please stop.dbboxkaifan wrote:And if people wanted to remove the grain they'd have the feature there to use as well as cropping/zooming it in, while it's true that it doesn't compare to a professional remastering job it's fine just to watch it.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
Just to be honest, I want to buy all the raws of Dragon Ball-Z-GT.
If I had the option to do so, I would, and I would make it look like the original broadcast.
And instead of burning a copy, I would go to a press-factory, and use the machine to press the disc, from there I would make a large order to send everyone with a collection another collection for the fee of the discs. DRAGONBALL-Z-GT for all. Then, no more whining.
I do hate the people who say that if we got a new version of the Dragon Boxes, it would devalue theirs; such selfish people.

They should use Dragon Box Masters, and do a Blu-ray release, correct the out of sync audio, and colours, jeez. I tried e-mailing the Joy Art Productions guy from Arabia, no response, we have a better chance of him getting the uncut masters released on blu-ray because his footage is amazing. To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about the fans a re-issue might alienate because if all they're concerned about is being able to scalp the people who were either unaware of the Dragon Boxes or couldn't afford them at the time, they're just leeches and deserve to have their greed backfire on them.

...Except the Dragon Box masters are 480p and so any advantage to putting those on BD would be absolutely miniscule, and I for one would probably just end up facepalming at them doing such a thing because you don't upscale 480p content for a show where you still have access to the original film-negatives. Seriously.Gokuden wrote:They should use Dragon Box Masters, and do a Blu-ray release, correct the out of sync audio, and colours, jeez. No, in order for them to do a truly definitive HD-version of the show they would have to actually re-scan the original film negatives I would think. Unless the source footage they worked with for the Dragon Boxes was scanned at higher resolutions than what the final DVD-masters were, but it's like... The work for the DBoxes was done in the early 2000s. I sorta doubt they would have scanned the film at 1080p or higher in the early 2000s.

Perhaps if it looks too old and dirty then people won't buy it, heck isn't this the reason why they modernised Dragon Ball Z on these Blu-rays so it'd look new? Yeah.RocktheDragon wrote:What's exactly wrong with doing a quick film scan and throwing it on a disc?

This, very much. Please stop asking for an upscale of the Dragon Boxes on Blu-ray, it's a dumb idea that isn't going to (and shouldn't) happen.Vegard Aune wrote:...Except the Dragon Box masters are 480p and so any advantage to putting those on BD would be absolutely miniscule, and I for one would probably just end up facepalming at them doing such a thing because you don't upscale 480p content for a show where you still have access to the original film-negatives. It's more a case of a company not wanting to look lazy as fuck or incompetent by just slamming some raws on a disc with zero clean up work.dbboxkaifan wrote:Perhaps if it looks too old and dirty then people won't buy it, heck isn't this the reason why they modernised Dragon Ball Z on these Blu-rays so it'd look new? Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
I already said that doing such a thing for a mainline release is out of the question. If they were going to slap raws on a disc so people could order it, I envision it as a "make it as you order it" kind of deal.AjayLikesGaming wrote:It's more a case of a company not wanting to look lazy as fuck or incompetent by just slamming some raws on a disc with zero clean up work.dbboxkaifan wrote:Perhaps if it looks too old and dirty then people won't buy it, heck isn't this the reason why they modernised Dragon Ball Z on these Blu-rays so it'd look new? Others have highlighted that some film companies have done this in the past. You place an order for however many episodes you want, they print you the disc, and you pay something like 30-60 dollars for it.
The only company that I know for sure that still does something like this is NFL films. You can place an order for certain programming from their archives and they will press you a disc for around 50-70 dollars.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
Managed to snag a copy of Season Two for free, and after watching a few key episodes especially during the Ginyu Force fights, the pan-and-scanning is rather noticeable to me. It's especially glaring during the fights because the digital panning goes all over the place. It's like someone used the video stabilization feature on YouTube.
At least to my eyes anyway...
On the plus side, the sharpening/filtering seems like it's been toned down a bit, and thus the footage looks somewhat closer to it's film nature than Season One. And. The cleaned up Japanese audio sounds just fine as well, which is one of the few advantages these sets have over previous releases.
The cropping still sucks though.

Why in the name of Kami does Walmart have season 4 up for $38 bucks? they better bring her down because I'm not paying that for this release.

amazon has it for $24.

I'm hoping it'll go to $16 dollars.

The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128
