Thoughts on a future anniversary release?

Post by _Jrinu_ » Mon Aug 14, 2006 11:25 pm

Ok, se we all know that for the Dragonball 10th aniversary they released a new movie. We also know that they did not do the same for the 20th.

I was just wondering about all of your thoughts on something like this happening again.

Does anyone know if there has been talk about or planning for one actually happening?

If not, what would you like to see released for a future Draognball anniversary?

Be it on the 25th, or the 40th, or even the 50th anniversary.

Personally, I doubt there will be any new DB. I'm not even sure it'd be a good idea to do so. I still love Dragon Ball, but it went on too long as it is. If they wanted to make a special release of the existing anime, a Collector's Edition set maybe, that'd be cool.

I'm still thinking a series of recap movies, to celebrate the 25th anniversary (a quater of a century seems more impressive than a fifth, lets face it ;) ), and release thereon.

But there'll always be things like anniversary merchandise so it's not worth worrying about I guess.

Neko Majin Z ova...PLEASE....? TT_TT

Or just a short 25th anniversary movie. A movie would work too.
On hiatus.

I still think they could do a 20th anniversary movie. C'mon there's still 5 months left in the year....they could manage :D

I'm sure FUNimation will probably do some kind of release between the 20th-25th DB Anniversaries, because... you know... they love to keep people buying them DVDs and video games!! :D
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

I think everyone was talking about an original release by Toei.

[fanboy wants]I would love to see more Saiya-jin-Freeza backstory, a movie set after the defeat of Yi Xing Long but before the GT TV Special, with Vegeta trying to protect the Earth being the main focus; something with new, digital-enhanced animation, even if it's the return of Garlic Jr; something that showcases Piccolo's life inbetween his defeat at the 23rd Budokai and the arrival of Raditz; a TV Special that shows how #17 and #18 became what they are...

AND A DAMN NEKO MAJIN OVA, TOEI.[/fanboy wants]

A Neko Majin Ova? That would be great! :P

I would just love to see a 60 minute movie done with a super-high budget. I'm not picky about plot or anything -- it could be all the dead villains coming back from Hell again, only to be stopped by the Z Senshi, and I'd be happy. :P

Garlic Jr. should keep his punkass in the dead zone. As for the Piccolo story you mentioned, that would be somewhat pointless because there wouldn't be much to show. Piccolo softened up when he became Ma Jr. He was the same during the fight with Raditz as he was when Goku gave him the senzu. Then he bonds with Gohan and starts to change even a greater deal after fighting Freeza. In other words, we already see him change in DragonBall and DragonBall Z.

Now if you want a Piccolo story, their could be a special based on how he fled the storms on Namek, lived in Yunzabit, witnessed many wars, expelled Piccolo Daimaou, competed with Garlic, and became Kami.

And as for the #17 and #18 backstory, that would be perfect.

I see no reason why they wouldn't release another DBZ Movie, considering that none of the others have particularly strong ties to the plot of the series.

Also baring in mind the dramatic resurrection of popularity in Japan over recent times it would make commercial sense for Toei to do it. So keep your eyes open and your fingers crossed, I guess.

Agreed on a NMZ ova (but that is abit off topic since we are talking about a possible new DBZ feature)

I kinda doubt that they will create a new feature for the 25th Anniversary, but if they were to create one, I would like a recap of the Frieza saga. I wouldn't want it to be an hour long though, I'm going for a 2 hr feature or something. It was terribly drawn in the series, and I would like to see it updated and have the Goku/Frieza fight be less then a week long :P .

I'd like to see a remake of Dragon Ball as a 25th Anniversary thing. A movie, per se. Like a re-do of the Piccolo Daimao saga or something, like how the Red Ribbon Army saga was re-done with The Path to Ultimate Strength.

That, or a Neko Majin Z OVA.
I really, really need to get back into the habit of posting.

I would like them to do what they did for dragonball for dragonball z.

If they were to make a movie recapping one of the sagas, just like they did for the Red Ribbon army, I think that would be really cool.

Well, let's see here.

"Path to Power" was somewhat of a retelling of the first half of the Dragonball manga, or so. I would really like to see a compressed retelling of the second half, with the same animation. A Piccolo featurette, if you will, running at about the same length. It would be very entertaining to me, and a sure purchase.

I would love to see something new that takes place after DBZ, and it would be nice if it would counterdict DBGT. It would be perfect if it was writen by Akira Toriyama, and it be at least two hours long.
