Whoa, that is awesome and another reason to support this release! ^_^medama_oyaji wrote:According to this tweet, Kanshenshuu's very own Herms is helping out on this set!! Now we KNOW it's gonna be done right!
I'd rather have the 80's Dr. Slump series but the films are welcomed too, hopefully they'll do great so gives a pass to release the series.

But what does that have to do with the picture I showed? lol just because they duplicate characters here or there doesn't mean they won't have a character from another series show up?(Remember when Goku visited Penguin village in Dragonball? why is it so far fetched to assume that a character from the same universe made an appearance?)TheGmGoken wrote:I hope you know that Teen/Adult Gohan appeared many times as a background character before Gohan was a Teensamuraix123 wrote:Regardless whether that is true or not ^ Look at the right side of both the images I posted. the hair is even the same? lol the face and everything! The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about the fans a re-issue might alienate because if all they're concerned about is being able to scalp the people who were either unaware of the Dragon Boxes or couldn't afford them at the time, they're just leeches and deserve to have their greed backfire on them.

I'd also like them to release the early-'90s movies that are based on the continuity of the "Brief Return of Dr. Slump" series that was running in V-Jump.dbboxkaifan wrote:Whoa, that is awesome and another reason to support this release! ^_^medama_oyaji wrote:According to this tweet, Kanshenshuu's very own Herms is helping out on this set!! I'm not disagreeing. I'm saying character design recycle a lot. Look at Yamcha. He looks just like a Slump character. More than that pic you posted.samuraix123 wrote:But what does that have to do with the picture I showed? lol just because they duplicate characters here or there doesn't mean they won't have a character from another series show up?(Remember when Goku visited Penguin village in Dragonball? why is it so far fetched to assume that a character from the same universe made an appearance?)TheGmGoken wrote:I hope you know that Teen/Adult Gohan appeared many times as a background character before Gohan was a Teensamuraix123 wrote:Regardless whether that is true or not ^ Look at the right side of both the images I posted. the hair is even the same? lol the face and everything! I never really thought about him as being like a slump character haha
Master Roshi comes to my mind more than he does haha but again I have only seen a couple episodes and read the first manga so I can't have much of an opinion the series haha

I can't remember who the character was, but there's a Dr.Slump character who shares a very similar design to Yamcha.samuraix123 wrote:I never really thought about him as being like a slump character hahaMaster Roshi comes to my mind more than he does haha but again I have only seen a couple episodes and read the first manga so I can't have much of an opinion the series haha

I don't even have the set yet and I still want to thank you. That's awesome news. I'm glad so much care went into this release.Herms wrote:Not really, I've just been doing it over this last month. Everyone, be sure to buy this** so that we can get a boxset with the 90s movies next!

Yep, Arale-chan and as well as other stuff from Dr. Slump are spread out through the DB and DBZ films, such as a poster of Arale-chan, toys of the Nikos (I think that's what they're named) and the appearance of the characters themselves (easily the best one of all).MagicBox wrote:I don't even have the set yet and I still want to thank you. For those of you skipping this because it's old please reconsider supporting this release too, just 'cause something's antique it doesn't mean it's outdated or bad by any reason.

Tsun Tsukutsun, the Chinese boy whose parents' spaceship crashed in Peguin Village (long story).Nanotchi wrote:I can't remember who the character was, but there's a Dr.Slump character who shares a very similar design to Yamcha.
Also, God in Dr. Slump has the same character design as Kame-Sen'nin, and even the same voice (Kōhei Miyauchi) in the TV series.

Huh, that's cool. I knew about the shared design (from somewhere on the forum, never seen the character in Slump myself), but I didn't know it was also Miyauchi.SaiyaJedi wrote:Also, God in Dr. Slump has the same character design as Kame-Sen'nin, and even the same voice (Kōhei Miyauchi) in the TV series.
Actually...I know Arale is played by Mami Koyama who was also Lunch, and the late-great Kenji Utsumi was Senbei. Are there any other actors who would later go on to be big players in Dragon Ball that were in Dr. Slump first?

Interesting. Launch's Dub VA, Meredith McCoy, played Arale in English in the Penguin Village episodes in Dragon Ball. I think somebody else has voiced her in recent video games, though.
And Brice Armstrong, English Narrator for Dragon Ball, was Senbei as well. Almost seemed like they deliberately echoed the original there.

Oh wow, that'll be fun to hear then. I know he's done other roles that aren't remotely like Piccolo, but I think the only time I've heard Furukawa in such a role is General Blue. And I'm always up for more Shigeru Chiba, heh.Adamant wrote:Taro was played by Toshio Furukawa and Tsun Tsukutsun was played by Shigeru Chiba.
Yeah, Brina Palencia played her in Tenkaichi 3. Not sure if she or anyone else had audio in Origins 2, or if Brina also reprised the role in Revenge of King Piccolo for the Wii. I actually really like her Arale, though I was never completely sold on Brice Armstrong as Senbei. And I want to say that Justin Cook was Taro in the Dr. Slump episodes of Dragon Ball, with Laura Bailey as Akane.Valerius Dover wrote:Interesting. Another cool thing about the Dr. Slump anime is that it is scored by Shunsuke Kikuchi. Especially at (comedically) dramatic scenes you can really hear what would become Dragon Ball music!

Re: Is there any possibility of FUNimation releasing Dr. Slu
May I ask how exactly Herms got involved with this release (provided he's allowed to answer)? Did he contact Discotek and volunteer his assistance once he found out they'd licensed the movies, or vice versa? Were they really open to the idea of you helping out?
This just seems like a pretty big deal to me. I mean, just imagine if Discotek decides to take a chance on the 90s Dr. Slump show someday and the Kanzenshuu staff helps out with the Dragon Ball episodes!

I wonder if Madman would ever consider releasing it as a sub only release, since they did so for Cardcaptor Sakura.

Re: Is there any possibility of FUNimation releasing Dr. Slu
Yeah, the 90s series it tough, because I want to support anything Slump-related getting licensed over here, and people often bring this one up as being more feasible for Discotek to put out because it's shorter than the original series. I haven't seen any of it, but I don't particularly like the look of it. Still, because I haven't seen it, I am curious to do so, and this would be my opportunity...
Anyway I often see it commented that the 90's series is newer looking, and so it has a better chance of success. I think it's all old enough that you're aiming for a niche audience either way, and that you might as well go for the original series, which more people want.
