Re: Dragonball Evolution 2 Announced
God I hope there are no more live action dragon ball films, whether it is dragon ball, z or gt.
It is clear that sometime in Mark Satan's life, he acquired the dragon balls and called upon shenlong to grant him immortality.

The title Dragonball Reborn was in fact a rumor in itself. The cast have talked about the sequel they signed on to but Reborn was never official. If there was a sequel, it would be titled Dragonball 2 or Dragonball Z the movie. Sites like mine used the title Reborn simply because that title basically went viral (mainly because of IMDB).

I didn't fall for it. Good attempt though!
But, y'know, I think, if they were to sink a HUGE budget into it, it could work. Look at Man of Steel. It had DBZ style fights and destruction. According to the TVTropes YMMV page for MoS, it's considered a "Spiritual Licensee" for a live-action DBZ because of how many people it reminded of Dragon Ball Z during those fight scenes. Of course, for a DB movie, the budget for that would have to be completely astronomical, but if someone WAS willing to sink that kind of money into it, it could be done. Unlikely, but possible nonetheless.

Well why wouldn't it work? They've made Lord of the Rings, Narnia, Superman, X-men and all sorts of things work. What's so special about Dragon Ball that it wouldn't work?DoomieDoomie911 wrote:Then tell me how. How would they make a live action Dragon Ball movie work?Bullza wrote:Oh they could absolutely make it work.DoomieDoomie911 wrote:I hope they never make a live action Dragon Ball movie again. All they'd have to do is cut down on some of the more outlandish things. Give Krillin a nose, no talking pig, no small comic relief blue imp with a ninja dog henchmen etc.
Have one movie to cover all of Dragon Ball. Start with a flashback about Kami/Piccolo and how he got sealed. Cut to present day with Bulma meeting Goku and them going on an adventure. At Fry Pan Mountain they go separate ways and Goku goes back to train with Roshi and meets Krillin, Bulma continues her search with Yamcha. Piccolo comes back and the rest is similar to the Piccolo saga with a mixture of the 23rd Budokai saga by making Piccolo and Piccolo Jr one character, Fight scene, Goku wins movie over.
Throw in fight scenes with Goku and Roshi/Tien as throwbacks to the 21st and 22nd Budokai sagas.
The fights can be done. The story while it would need changes would still be faithful to the manga. They could have a balance where the first half was light and humourous while the second half was more dramatic and serious.
The characters could stay pretty much the same except Goku would be 18, Roshi wouldn't be as perverse and Bulma wouldn't have full blue hair. Piccolo's face could be CGI.
DBZ would be way easier to adapt.

Dragon Ball Z easy to adapt to... a real live action film?Bullza wrote:DBZ would be way easier to adapt.
One of the series that wouldn't use too much CGI would be Dragon Ball because it relies more on the strength that the body consumes rather than beam blasts which are very commonly used in Dragon Ball Z.
Dragon Ball: Evolution scene of Goku Vs. Piccolo Daimao beam clash could have been a lot better if Goku didn't go up all the way against Piccolo Daimao but they were trying to recreate the original scene although it wasn't very good.

What I meant is that it would never feel right. No matter how much money and effort they put into it, it would never feel like Dragon Ball. Just like if they made a live action Peanuts movie it would never feel like Peanuts.Well why wouldn't it work? They've made Lord of the Rings, Narnia, Superman, X-men and all sorts of things work. Yeah. Dragon Ball would be much harder to make into a film.
What I meant is that it would never feel right. No matter how much money and effort they put into it, it would never feel like Dragon Ball.
You don't know that. They've turned plenty of American comics and Fantasy books into successful live action movies. Even if it didn't feel like the anime it wouldn't necessarily be bad because it wouldn't be an anime and it could have it's own things going for it that the anime didn't have.
They could make a movie that could be better than the anime for all you know.

I just don't think they could ever make a live action Dragon Ball movie that has the same charm the the Dragon Ball manga and anime has.Bullza wrote:You don't know that. I must admit. You got me.
I always see Kanzeshuu like a serious place, so I wasnt expect this joke
But the first thing I thought before click was "Toriyama, you will have to revenge again with Battle of Gods 2."

A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

They've done it with far more complex works than Dragon Ball so I don't see why it should be so special.DoomieDoomie911 wrote:DoomieDoomie911 wrote:What I meant is that it would never feel right. I don't doubt that they could do it with enough money, but it would never feel like Dragon Ball. It would be it's own entity.

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less about the fans a re-issue might alienate because if all they're concerned about is being able to scalp the people who were either unaware of the Dragon Boxes or couldn't afford them at the time, they're just leeches and deserve to have their greed backfire on them.

It wouldn't feel the same because it wouldn't be the same. It wouldn't be animated, and there's just some things you can't recreate in live action.Bullza wrote:You still haven't said why.DoomieDoomie911 wrote:I don't doubt that they could do it with enough money, but it would never feel like Dragon Ball. Re: Dragonball Evolution 2 Announced
It'd be obvious it wouldn't be the same. X-men was a cartoon, they made a live action film, it was different but still good.
Some things couldn't be done and would probably be better off without them.
On the flip side they could improve the story and the fights with the movies.

If DBE2 did got made, it would have been direct to video garbage. Fox won't make a movie and release it in theaters if it was a sequel to a movie that people didn't see. DBE did well overseas because of China.
