They're male, it's just they reproduce asexually. I know Namekians only have one sex, but they are referred to as "he" or "him". I know it's done for narrative expediency, and DB isn't scientifically accurate, but I'm going with that. If Kami is in fact asexual, then they couldn't be sex buddies, he wouldn't have genitals. Unless you're thinking he's always the bottom (so to speak). Wow, this is a weird conversation.

Okay I think you're taking a joke a bit too seriously.

To be fair to Kami, he did eventually intervene.

I think at first as the new God he wasn't comfortable enough to defy the "rules" just yet. He didn't write the rules but he felt compelled to follow them.

Overtime though, he realized he couldn't simply tolerate Daimao any longer, to the point he was willing to accept dying to put an end to Piccolo. At that point, if he had to do it over again, I doubt he'd have behaved the same.

He may not have intervened the first two times but it's not like he was happy and unconcerned about what was happening below. Better late than never I suppose.
Sean Schemmel is THE MAN! :)

Gaffer Tape wrote:Considering how open he was about his "secret" I find that justification a bit hard to swallow. He hinted his identity to both Yamucha and Goku and then started speaking to Ma in his native tongue? Yeah, good job hiding your identity there.
Assuming that a superior of him would have watched him over, he wouldn't watch over a random Earthling, so he wouldn't know that Shen was Kami, and even if he had revealed himself to someone, but not publicly, he wouldn't know it.
Gokuden wrote:I don't like disproving theories, but DBZGTKOSDH, at that moment in time, we thought Kami was the be all, end all.
It wasn't stated though, it was just what we knew so far. We learn not very long after that that there is Enma Daio & Kaio. Toriyama had already decided that Goku, Piccolo, and Kami were aliens at that point from what I recall.
ABED wrote:Trunks and Goten aren't Goku. He can't just lay that at their feet and say, "we did it, so should you."
That's the point Goku missed. He thought that because him & Gohan were mature enough to protect the Earth when they were kids, Goten & Trunks would also be mature enough as well. But the thing is, they actually weren't.
As for Kami, Piccolo was his fault. Evil may have crept into his soul because of humans, but he chose to expel it because he wanted to be Kami so much.
Kami secretly went to deal with Piccolo in the 23rd TB under a disguise, so that leads me to believe that gods, their attendants, and dead people aren't allowed to deal with the living world's problems, even if they caused them.
Also, what does Popo do that's so damn important?
It's not his place to do it.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. What I meant to say the beings killed by Piccolo Daimao be it inhabitants of Earth or any other planet, they don't pass unto afterlife but instead stuck in between.
Piccolo Daimao was a by product of Earth that takes form through Kami, the Namekian.

Akira Toriyama should have atleast hinted whether a Human Kami before Namkeian Kami had gone through the same/similar process?

I try to analyze the plot of DB on case by case basis and the importance of Plot because it helps to identify the intent of Mangaka.

I don't mean this to come across as hostile, but do you think I don't read or hear? I know what Kami and Popo say, but I might be able to buy Kami, but what does Popo do that's so important? Seriously, we see little more of his duties than being the groundskeeper.

From what we've seen, he's basically Kami's steward. He decides who gets to see Kami (as shown when Goku arrives), he takes care of him and his home (the worrying about his health, gardening on the lookout), and advising Kami when needed (I'd imagine he taught Dende in how to be a proper god of Earth). He possibly also serves as a bodyguard of some sort.

Granted, this is mostly speculation, but I don't think it's too big of a stretch to assume.

Why do people keep saying this? It's not that easy! Even after being blinded by the Taiyōken, people still have ears, and the Kienzan is anything but silent -- they'd definitely dodge it! Vegeta dodged it when Kuririn used it on him even though Kuririn attacked him from his blind spot. Unless they're overconfident like Nappa and try to tank it, it won't work.

I can't believe this was by passed, this easily makes the most sense, especially since the only time Kami makes an appearance is durring the 23rd tournament which is of course AFTER Goku links the Palace and the human dimension together with the power pole.

Okay, is that actually the truth, though? Because I'd never heard that until recently. In fact, I remember Karin rebuffing Yajirobe's idea of taking a rocket there with the fact that it would be repelled. Certainly doesn't sound like it doesn't exist in the same dimension. And in both the manga and anime, there is nothing that shows any evidence of that. Goku just gets high enough and sees it. It doesn't phase into visibility or anything like that.

Fair enough, but if Piccolo can't get to the heavenly realm, I think Kami's safe. And, when was the last time anyone saw Kami before Goku?

It's not that Popo has other duties that prevent him from going. The simple reason is that it's just not his place to do it. Nothing more, nothing less.

The question is "why isn't it his place?" What the hell are they good for? Who do they answer to? It's a weak point in the story because the audience is asked to take it on faith that it's not his place.

It's not his place to save the world because the mortals must grow up on their own, stand up on their own feet, and deal with their problems with their own power. The gods & their attendants aren't there to solve their problems, they have other duties (don't ask me what duties, I haven't done that homework yet), the mortals have to solve their problems by themselves.

These guys were dependent on the scouters to gauge what their opponents are capable of.

Frieza still got his tail chopped off. where did the sound part come in to play?

The attacks are faster than the speed of sound unless you are implying bullets/Ki attacks in DB are slower than speed of sound.
Even Mercenary Tao considers supersonic jets as slow and prefers to travel a very long distance by throwing a pillar at hyper-sonic speed.

When a bullet is fired, the sound reaches the ears of target after the bullet has already connected /reached the target .

Vegeta outright said he avoided Kuririn's Kienzan because he heard him. And the Kienzan is definitely not faster than sound, considering that when Kuririn used it on Nappa, Vegeta had enough time to yell at Nappa to dodge it in the first place.

So the gods cause problems and yet, people are expected to solve them? Sounds unfair. Secondly, he's not god in Judeo-Christian sense, he's a fictional entity so the rules are whatever Toriyama says. And lastly, if we don't know what either do, then why are we supposed to swallow "it's not our place?" If the world blows up, and a mortal (Kami's mortal, he's just from another planet. Even previous Kamis were once human) couldn't stop it, but they could, Kami did a crappy job. It's lazy storytelling on Toriyama's part to just say that and give no hint as to why and what he does that's so damn important that stopping a world threatening evil that he created.

The world must stand on its feet is a weak argument. This isn't about stopping a few murders, this is about stopping the destruction of everything.

Mr. Judge, we've had this discussion, Toriyama isn't a physicist.

Vegeta had seen the attack and knew what it was capable of.

Vegeta was on guard and prepared as he had anticipated that other 2 may join in.Vegeta's battle awareness was because of his anticipation.
He was not prepared for Yajirobe ,so got his tail chopped off.the battle awareness failed here.

Frieza and Dodoria had never seen such a type of attack and moreover Kuririn can send a barrage of discs at his target.

there is no point in defending that Kuririn couldn't have killed Dodoria and Frieza with the combo.
