Why are people so obsessed with DB returning to CN?
i mean, people ALWAYS say that DB should Return to Toonami, despite it airing on Nicktoons. People miss the fact that...
-CN passed on DBZKai to begin with.
-Nicktoons has no intention of letting go.
-Jason De Marco has said it wont return to CN/Toonami.
I get that Nicktoons is a channel not everyone gets, but still...

Re: Why are people so obsessed with DB returning to CN?
I wish I had a rational reason why this annoys me, but I don't. But maybe I don't need one because it's not rational in 2014 to care about something airing on live TV, or what channel it airs on. It's all branding and nostalgia.
Cartoon Network nostalgia in general is just annoying. People forgot that they're not eight-years-old anymore and are somehow shocked and appalled to see what became of it.
Also, I'm 99% sure when American TV made the switch from analog to digital broadcast, Cartoon Network and Nicktoons were leveled on the same playing field, so to speak. If you have cable, you most likely have both networks.

Fans want the "original", 1999, English-dubbed, guitar wailing, exposition packing, "uncut" (ha), Sabat crowded, HOLY COSMOS THAT'S ONE WHOPPER OF A LIZARD version of DBZ to air on Toonami. Sandwiched between an episode of Robotech and a Super Chunk of 2 Stupid Dogs.
Even if you gave them Kai, people would bitch that Goku didn't say their favorite line anymore, or complain that Faulconer isn't doing the music, or that Gohan and Bulma have different voices. You know, like they already do about Kai, but on a larger scale.

It's nostalgia. People like seeing their favorite shows or movies that they grew up watching on TV. Sure you have DVD's, but people like the feel of sitting through commercials to wait on what happen to next.

Nostalgia is a powerful and blinding phenomena.
It is clear that sometime in Mark Satan's life, he acquired the dragon balls and called upon shenlong to grant him immortality.

Is the joke that the guy is complimenting the writing staff for changing something from the Japanese version? If so...eh, I don't mind. There's a lot of lines I like better in the old FUNI dub than I did in the Japanese version...in addition to things that I didn't like.

He's essentially bragging that the hope of the universe speech was in the dub but not in the original. Here's the link to the actual clip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E10HK74 ... e&t=15m47sFionordequester wrote:Is the joke that the guy is complimenting the writing staff for changing something from the Japanese version? Yeah, as much as I'll defend the dub...yeah, that was NOT one of it's better moments >_<!!

Re: Why are people so obsessed with DB returning to CN?
The weird and somewhat insulting thing about that is not so much that he liked those lines but the fact that he dismisses the original version as if it wasn't even trying to do something special there either. I mean, that was a big, iconic moment long before FUNimation butchered it. But if all you had to go on was this guy, you'd expect the original dialogue to be something like, "Hey, I'm Goku! My hair is blonde now, huh? I have the angers toward you, and now we will fight!" until FUNimation saw the potential in actually writing something good.

To be fair, he may have just gotten some poorly translated subs? Maybe? It sounds like blind ignorance to me, but I never like jumping to conclusions with people.

Maybe it is you, an alter-ego which you play out in person praising how bad the original Dragonball is but on the internet you are the cynical, angry, FUNi dub critic we all know and love. Like, you have a double personality and your alter-ego didn't realize that your interview would make it here to Kanzenshuu! Whoa.penguintruth wrote:What a douche.qjz123 wrote:Yes… Yes he is.penguintruth wrote: (Is he wearing a shirt with a tie just drawn on there?)

All jokes aside, that makes me mad that he said that
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada
Re: Why are people so obsessed with DB returning to CN?
I doubt he's seen the Japanese version at all. When I was watching the extra for the first time I thought oh here we go someones about to praise the hope of the universe speech I was expecting this eventually but then he admits that the line wasn't in the Japanese version then he proceeds to brag about it. I lost it by that point.Fionordequester wrote:Gaffer Tape wrote:The weird and somewhat insulting thing about that is not so much that he liked those lines but the fact that he dismisses the original version as if it wasn't even trying to do something special there either. I LOVED how Nozawa handled the whole thing. I always found that only her and Mario Castañeda can handle that scene. Sean and Edson Matus really cant. But hey! I heard Schkmmel act in other roles so he's not TOTALLY talentless. Like Edson Matus.

Re: Why are people so obsessed with DB returning to CN?
My reason for wanting it on cartoon network again in my opinion seems logical:
1) The Edited version that was shown on Nicktoons gave the casual DBZ Fans a false perception that this is how the show was with all the blood, gore, and cussing gone. Which isn't even close to true!! I still get that argument today why Kai is worse than Z :/ Ugh Facepalm
2) Funimation having to edit the show slowed down the production and release schedule of the DBZ Kai Blu Rays!! This is the biggest reason why i want it back on Toonami/AS because Funimation should not have to edit the show it should be take and air it as it is or we will find a network that will!!
3) Nicktoons is rapidly going down hill as a network with getting rid of a few of their Anime shows and replacing them with BS!! I could see no better place than Toonami with Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Attack on Titan for this show to thrive on. Funimation needs to do the smart thing and let CN pick up DBZ Kai The Final Chapters when Funimation starts releasing it dubbed of course!

Which reaches more people, a digital cable channel many don't get or a programming block on a basic cable channel that the target audience isn't allowed to stay up to watch?
