Huh. Well, my hunch may have been wrong after all. If it's starting at twelve episodes per set, and the Buu arc really is sixty-nine episodes long, that would logically amount to six sets. Perhaps the first four will have twelve episodes; the fifth eleven; the sixth ten.
Maybe I'll just get the sets for the Fusion Saga and onward on Blu-ray and hold my breath for a seasons release. Via said release, I would get the rest on DVD. I plan on getting the Z season seven and eight Blu-rays, but want DVD representation for each part of the storyline (I haven't bothered to buy any of the Buu arc yet); hence my decision to get the Kai Great Saiyaman through Majin Buu Sagas on DVD rather than Blu-ray. The final step then, if I do indeed get the last leg of Kai on Blu-Ray, will be the Z season nine orange brick (I at least want the option to play the Faulconer score, and the singles are collectively much more expensive).

Oh sweet Jesus..
For the love of god, we just never get what we want anymore.. might as well just give up.Also departing from the previous releases, with the Blu-rays being in a 4:3 fullscreen aspect ratio and DVDs in a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, both the Blu-ray and DVD box sets for the Majin Buu arc are listed in widescreen formats only. As of right now, it appears that a fullscreen version will not available, and in all likelihood was never produced to begin with. We’ll be sure to keep you posted if this detail happens to change.

Lets hope that funimation releases it in 4:3

That's if they send the 4x3 AR footage to FUNimation otherwise it's 16x9 AR. I'd really rather watch this in fullscreen than cropped because the music doesn't even make it sound very modern-ish it's like something composed for an average video game.sintzu wrote:Lets hope that funimation releases it in 4:3

I hope to God that that's the case, but if Toei aren't releasing a 4:3 version, they probably never made a 4:3 version. Maybe they're did and they've decided to just be inconsistent for the sake of being consistent with their inconsistency.sintzu wrote:Lets hope that funimation releases it in 4:3
Kai had so much potential at the beginning, but it feels like it's just been dealt one blow after another until there's not much left. At least we might get another shot in 25 years.

I swear to Kaioshin, if we seriously do not get 4:3 footage for the western release, better dub or not, they've lost any sort of sale they'll get from me.

If the cropping is not as bad as the new blu rays season sets then I wouldn't mind. But I hope to God that funimation releases a 4:3 version of the show.

The cropping is pretty good but fans are accustomed to watching Dragon Ball Kai in 4x3 AR so this would be a bit odd to have for the Majin Boo arc although it's Toei Animation so you never know.JEFFMAN219 wrote:If the cropping is not as bad as the new blu rays season sets then I wouldn't mind. I was one of those weirdos that never had a huge problem with Kai being 16:9, but all these other problems with the music and the remastering process taking shortcuts has massacred any interest in owning it.

I never had a problem with Kai being in 16:9 either. In fact, I'd rather Funi released Z in 4:3 and Kai in 16:9 (they're going wrong for both series, to me >_>), as Kai is supposed to be the "modern, refreshed" version. However, since we already have the first 98 episodes in 4:3, I'd like them to at least give a 4:3 option to keep things consistent, especially since Kai is so inconsistent already.B wrote:I was one of those weirdos that never had a huge problem with Kai being 16:9, but all these other problems with the music and the remastering process taking shortcuts has massacred any interest in owning it.

The show was originaly being made for contries outside japan which got the first phase in 4:3 so i dout they didn't make a 4:3 virsion and keep in mind that the dvd's for the first phase were in 16:9 in japan and 4:3 in the us so we still have a good chance of getting it in 4:3Fizzer wrote:If Toei aren't releasing a 4:3 version, they probably never made a 4:3 version.

I will without a doubt buy the U.S. DVD release, cropped or not, but I sure would like to have my collection consistent in the aspect ratio department.

The show was originally being made for countries outside Japan? Hm, are you implying Dragon Ball Kai's main target audience wasn't the Japanese?sintzu wrote:The show was originaly being made for contries outside japan which got the first phase in 4:3 so i dout they didn't make a 4:3 virsion and keep in mind that the dvd's for the first phase were in 16:9 in japan and 4:3 in the us so we still have a good chance of getting it in 4:3Fizzer wrote:If Toei aren't releasing a 4:3 version, they probably never made a 4:3 version.
Dragon Ball Kai was being advertised as a refreshed, new, cleaner and modernised version of Dragon Ball Z to air in Japan back in 2009.
This is the promo they used in Japan to advertise Dragon Ball Kai: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qo3J0n5I4Gw
By the way, what you're confusing is that Toei Animation made two AR versions of Kai for their R2J home releases, DVD got it in 16x9 AR whereas Blu-ray was 4x3 AR. It just happens that Toei Animation decided to send the 4x3 AR footage for the western companies instead of 16x9 AR although some got the cropped version (France, Spain).

The Majin Boo arc is being currently broadcast in Japan and no announces as of yet for foreign countries. It changed because Toei Animation figured they could milk some out of it.

Toei Animation Europe mentioned a number of, obviously, European countries that will be showing Kai, right? Or they were talking about reruns of the first 98 episodes?dbboxkaifan wrote:The Majin Boo arc is being currently broadcast in Japan and no announces as of yet for foreign countries.

They mentioned European countries such as UK, Portugal, Spain, France and some others although it was for the old Kai (001-098). Toei gave hope to some fans expecting to see the Majin Boo Kai arc in their language as soon as it's released.B wrote:Toei Animation Europe mentioned a number of, obviously, European countries that will be showing Kai, right? Toei's advertised the show internationally as Dragon Ball Z Kai the final chapters, so are they selling this part of the series as a separate entity to the previous iteration of Kai?

It would be just like Toei to screw us by only releasing it in 16:9.
Damn them.
Damn them.
