Travis Touchdown wrote:I have Battle Stadium DON on Gamecube and it's a lot of fun, it really is, but my biggest frustration is unlocking new characters. From what I gather in order to unlock them you have to play story mode. During story mode, you'll get missions. Seeing as to how I cannot read Japanese, I wind up just guessing what I'm supposed to do. Sometimes I guess right, sometimes not. After successfully completing a mission, you get a token. That token is used for a chance to unlock someone at the end of the game. If you line up 3 special icons, then you go to another slot machine and you have to line up a character's head 3 times to unlock them. I've owned the game for 3 years and I've yet to unlock a single character. I have a couple of saves for DON that I've downloaded from gamefaqs, but neither the Gameshark, nor this unknown 3rd party device is working properly.
It's exactly the same thing with me, I'd just end up doing whatever and sometimes I got a pass others it was a fail.
As for the unlockable characters these are the ones:
Dragon Ball Z
1) Trunks
2) Freeza
3) Perfect Cell
4) Majin Boo
One Piece
1) Nami
2) Oosopp
Naruto
1) Rock Lee
2) Gaara
I'd love to play as Cell or Majin Boo but since I can't read Japanese nor even seen what the challenges meant in English until
Michael showed that link just recently I haven't been able to unlock them.

Like
dbboxkaifan said, the only super-Japanese-y stuff you'll run up against are the mission mode explanations. These used to be a really good image someone put together that displayed what it looked like alongside an explanation of what to do. I thought it was on GameFAQs, but apparently not.
Here's one version that's out there which should be helpful.
That's sick! Thank you! If there's anything else you think would be helpful I'd love to continue mooching lol

I've read posts of people who changed the in-game music of Super Smash Bros. Brawl to their own preference, so maybe it's possible to do the same to Battle Stadium D.O.N and replace it with Kikuchi's score now that would be epic awesome.
To top it off eliminate the audio tracks of the announcer and it's now even better than the original game itself, in terms of audio/music.
By the way, SSBB is one of my favourite games that has a beautiful soundtrack and wouldn't change it for anything.

two words: Hironobu Kageyama
That would melt my face, smash brosing with Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo and Freeza to that epicness!!
Yeash Smash Bros has a killer soundtrack especially that greek chorus! I'd def put in some of that music if possible. I'd also add som Yu Yu Hakusho tracks that I find super awesome even though that franchise isn't represented.
So today, I saw a package on my front step and was like "IT'S HERE!" noooooope ...it was from Amazon...a book I ordered...the anticipation is driving me bonkers, cuz I'm nervous if it's gonna play

Yeah, the unlock system is amazingly obnoxious, and I have no idea how anyone could think people would enjoy it.
But yeah, since it wasn't explained properly to you before: GET A NEW, EMPTY GAMECUBE MEMORY CARD. If you try saving the game with a memory card that has save data from non-Japanese games on it, all that data will be permanently wiped. Likewise, your DON data will be deleted if you try saving data from a non-Japanese game to that card.

The memory card I use has saves of other games and it didn't delete any so far so it's why I didn't speak of this flaw that others here have had.
I wonder if there's something like Action Replay that can unlock the characters.

I'm just glad I can use a US memory card, I'm pretty sure I have a blank one lying around somewhere.

I don't remember memory cards being set to each region but as long as it works that's all it matters. Have fun with
BSDON.

It came!
It finally came!
And oh muh gur!!! So much fun!
Each character plays so differently and Piccolo's range is amazing, still though I love playing as Goku best so far!!

@Kakarot88 so how many hours have you spent playing it so far and are you enjoying it?
This game deserves to be re-released with an online mode as a feature because it ends up being pretty dry with single player only.

I know with 100% cetainty, you can change the announcer. Although there are hidden audio files for characters and the game's music seems to be hidden too. Which is weird 'cause the directory for where the accessable voices files is called BGM. Yet, no BGM is in there.

I wish more time but probably about I dunno 5-10 hours maybe ...I already got:
Freeza
destroyed Namek
some redhead chick
some stage I already forgot about cuz it wasn't dragon ball
some dude in a green shirt with weird eyes
everyone says the slot machine is random but there is a timing to it and the game helps you by darkening out the other potential items so you can focus on getting the unlockable stuff
For me, Goku is the most rewarding to use when you pull of combos but I can do some serious work with Piccolo and Luffy. Naruto is awful, hate using him. Really all the dragon ball characters are pretty dominating if you don't fly off the stage, but Luffy can be down right dirty
I hate that jack and the bean stalk or whetever the hell the moving upward stage is.

Hate that stage so much as well, that ones screws with me when I play. Sounds like you unlocked Nami from One Piece and Rock Lee from Naruto based on those descriptions.

Yeah! Those are the characters, I'm dying to get Boo really wanna use his super!
I especially hate the bean stock stage when the mission is don't ring out even once, I used to try and do it but now I just wait to try and scoop up all the points within the last ten seconds when the stage stops moving so I can advance to the next level.
