For Dragon Ball content, as much 4x3 AR footage as possible but everything else in their respective aspect ratios.

Dragon Ball = 4x3
Dragon Ball Z = 4x3
Dragon Ball GT = 4x3
Dragon Ball Kai = 4x3 | 16x9 (Majin Boo arc, apparently there's no 4x3 version)

Dragon Ball films = 4x3 (the correct aspect ratio is 16x9 AR)
Dragon Ball Z films 1-13 = 4x3 (same case as the DB films)

Newer content is all in 16x9 AR so that's something that can't be chosen between 4x3 and 16x9.

I like watching them in 4x3 AR because it shows a lot more detail than it would in 16x9 AR.

Are the special features on these sets are worth checking out or they just as boring as the other special features in the past home video releases.

Oh thanks, got to check those out tomorrow. I always hated how bare bones the past home video releases were. Interviews are nice and I think the Ultimate Uncut Vol. 1 DVD had the best special features. I get why Funi keeps them bare bones to avoid the prices going up. The more you add on the disc, the more it cost. That's why a lot of home video releases in general have becoming bare bones lately.

Geez, am I really the only one that finds it a bit in...I dunno, bad taste, to have made a gif of the guy? Hell, if he really does like that speech and feels that's something the old dub deserves accolades for, then hey...that's his opinion, and I don't see why he should be made a mockery for it, especially not when it's been known for a long time that a lot of people really do like that scene, and this guy just happened to put a face to it in a video.

It it were the opposite people would still make fun of him (on YouTube) while others would praise here, really, the guy was just being honest and I've seen worse than this, like this dude in his 20's who was at McDonald's playing with MLP toys.

Aw, I don't think there's any need to take a moral high ground over a gif. It's an absolutely absurd statement regardless of whether he likes the dub or not. I see no issue poking fun at him for it.

Hey guys will Season 4 be 24.99? that's what amazon has it up for. I really hope this isn't going to be the case.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Amazon is probably price matching Walmart with seasons two and three. They're both $16.96 USD on Walmart's website. Season four, for whatever reason, is listed for $38.23.

Perhaps Amazon is trying to match its season one price, though that doesn't explain why the Kai season one and four Blu-rays are at a significantly higher price than seasons two and three.

Well I'm taking a break from buying these new sets for about a month or two anyways so hopefully the price will drop before I get back to buying them. :)

Have you seen the actual video yet? If not here you go http://youtu.be/E10HK74K6SQ?t=15m47s

I think Gaffer Tape put it best
Gaffer Tape wrote:The weird and somewhat insulting thing about that is not so much that he liked those lines but the fact that he dismisses the original version as if it wasn't even trying to do something special there either. I mean, that was a big, iconic moment long before FUNimation butchered it. But if all you had to go on was this guy, you'd expect the original dialogue to be something like, "Hey, I'm Goku! My hair is blonde now, huh? I have the angers toward you, and now we will fight!" until FUNimation saw the potential in actually writing something good.
Going into the extras I fully expected someone to eventually praise the hope of the universe speech but never in my wildest dreams would I have expected someone to come out and praise the hope of the universe speech, tell us that it wasn't in the Japanese version, and then proceed to brag about it.

The gif alone doesn't make fun of you, anyway. Anyone who agrees with you can use the same gif to be like, "Yo, the dub's better. This cool dude agrees and he's on a DBZ Blu-ray."

They not only give you 4:3, but because of Blu-ray, they give you the WHOLE frame, unlike Toei, and Funi. Check it out!
There is so much wrong with this I don't even know where to start... but here I go anyways (and I'll just stick to Ranma and Funimation... the rest of your post has so much bad information I just don't have the time to explain the problems there.)

Warner distros VIz's disks for them, they had nothing to do with the remastering.

And neither did Viz frankly.

It's quite easy to put out good disks when you are handed very nice masters and don't really have to do much (Funimation's release of Yu Yu Hakusho for example.)

It's entirely different when you are handed crap and have to do everything from scratch yourself (moreso when you have the potential to sell it to a mass audience. Nearly any anime company is quite happy to make changes when that potential exists.)

...although I have no idea what you are talking about with getting the 'whole' frame because of Blu-ray. The Ranma BDs crop out erroneous information from the filmstock as any proper film scan should, and that in and of itself has nothing to do with Blu-ray.
I have a feeling we will be seeing more attempts to reinvigorate the series after the season sets. Yes, I meant the full image on the filmstock, minus the black outer edges... Once upon a time, I hope North America will get the great DragonBall in HD. There's never been any attempt to bring that yet, other than a strange poll.

LED would be much more vibrant. Without the issues that Plasmas carry. :P I know it's not related to the blueray discussion though :P If I have to throw something in, I'd say that I prefer 16:9 but I'd rather have it in 4:3 then cropped. (That is to say I prefer the original content made in widescreen)

Something that DOES get annoying, though, is after watching straining amounts of old anime, my TV has the lines from the bars BURNED INTO IT for like 3 days.
Thats a issue with your tv itself then. I have watched Kai in 4:3 on my 42 inch Westinghouse for 5 hours straight and nothing got burned into the screen.
I concur, been watching the series (and by series I mean Dragon Ball Z and NOT Dragon Ball Z Kai) in 4:3 on loop and no burn and much more satisfied.

This show isn't like Planet Earth where if you prefer Sigourney over the British dude you get the missing footage in the extras, here, with DBZ, you just straight up miss out on it.

In terms of packaging the Orange Bricks are somewhat superior, because of the booklets (early copies), paper boxes, slipcovers (Season BDs have it too) and disc presentation but when it comes down to the aspect ratio they both suffer from the same problem, that is widescreen.

It would've been cool if FUNimation included Season Books on this DBZ Season Blu-ray release too but it's a budget release so no surprise it didn't.
