Recycled isn't the same as regurgitation. Regurgitation is negative. Sure, Kai was cheap, but plenty of people like it and think it's good. But that's what Kai is - it's a totally recycled product. The franchise itself has stagnated through endless regurgitation

The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.

EVen with the same voice actress, Usagi and new SM anime will feel different. Cutting out the filler, DB has always been a VERY close manga adaptation, both in dialogues, stories, personalities of characters AND drawing style. Not the case with 90s Sailor Moon anime, the anime had big differences, some characters has basically different personalities, major story differences and of course animation style. DB remake would (likely) look liked like an improved original anime, not a largely different thing SM Crystal will beB wrote:The Sailor Moon situation is an odd one that I don't quite understand how Dragon Ball would attempt it. It would be absolutely jarring to have a version where Nozawa returns and every other character is recast. There are quotes jumping about from the Internet that a lot of the original Sailor Moon cast is not active anymore, so perhaps we would never have to worry about such a thing happening as people like Nozawa, Tanaka, Horikawa, and Furukawa are doing shows right now or very recently(One Piece, Ping Pong, Samurai Flamenco, Detective Conan, Digimon Xros Wars Part 2...)
Re: New Sailor Moon anime and Kai
^ Yeah, the Sailor Moon anime was only very loosely based on the manga, having a "monster of the week" basis. I haven't seen all of the anime nor the manga, but what I saw was enough to say "what the...?! It's not the same story at all..." when I was a kid reading a few of the Sailor Moon manga volumes after I watched episodes of the anime from time to time (Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon were the big anime combo back then, and one would be followed by the other).
The way events happened, the places, the explanations, the decisions characters made, etc... diverged in extreme ways.
Though it was not a similar catastrophee, and with a little big of exageration, let's put it this way: in terms of differences, I wanna say the Sailor Moon anime was to the Sailor Moon manga what Dragonball Evolution was to the Dragon Ball manga. See how widely it strays afar from the original events, story and depictions of the characters?
It would have been simply impossible to make some "Sailor Moon Kai" closer to the manga, the only way it could be closer to the manga was effectively to start it all over again and rebuild it from scratch.

I must agree, Sailor Moon anime really was much different from manga, especially SuperS and Stars, even musicals follow manga more closely, while Dragon Ball followed manga panel by panel (Minus some differences, like Zarbon telling Vegeta about Freeza transformation, with was absent from both adaptations, or gags, that involve breaking through panels, or Kuririn, calling author lazy)
