Cell arc, in the Buu arc it was the same style but more poorly done

Another vote for here for the pseudo-realistic Cell arc style with the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai period art style coming behind it.

Augh it's so hard to choose! I guess I really love "classic" Toriyama, like Dr. Slump and early Dragon Ball. But I also love his newer styles. The simplicity of his COWA! style really grabs me.

I too, also love a lot of the anime art prevalent in the Saiyan Saga and first four DBZ films.
Those are my favorite art style in general, but they don't look like Toriyama works. I have no idea who the artist was and it's driving me crazy!! Does anyone know who the 90's promotional artist is?? I'll do anything for any knowledge on him!!!
Let's just all get along and beat each other up

Honestly this is a really hard question to answer - reading along the manga and watching Toriyama's style slowly evolve is always enjoyable for me. If I had to choose one in particular I suppose around the later DB and early Z portion (from around the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai to perhaps early-Namek) is my personal favorite. The art is already significantly more angular yet still recognizable from his earliest art.

Currently, I really like art style used from the Cell and Boo arcs. Contrary to how most people feel about the angular direction the art style took, I for one thought it looked great. It fit the series' shift in tone as well as being more elaborate (especially obvious as the common appearance of Super Saiyan hair shows off a lot of small details). Though, I think I can live without the fifteen foot tall chins.

I like his work from the Piccolo Daimao arc through the end of the Freeza arc. There was a lot of natural growth to the character design and it didn't feel quite as rushed as the art for the Buu arc looked.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

So do I, it's my favourite art style. Always has been. However, they are a lot of wonky moments in both these arcs. I don't think that's a fault of the art style and just a separate issue of Toriyama having been drawing the manga for too long.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

I personally prefer the Kanzenban artstyle, where everything is uniquely very stylized, kinda gritty detailed, pseudo-realistic level of attention done for the backgrounds and the unconventional clothing the characters wear in the eyecatches. The only thing I dont like is the colours, looking a bit too muddy and dark.

If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

I really love his 1982-1989 art styles more than anything :D

Cartoony yet heavilly detailed, with his current style coming in second place.
Buu saga art style is my least favourite because of how angular it was and also how crudely drawn the minor characters ended up from the 25th Budokai up until the end.

I agree 100%, however I still appreciate the growth of the artist through out the years! - I think the angular look accentuates the growth of the characters also, their muscle bellies etc grow throughout DB - DBZ, just like in real life, IMO

Like when you see goku with gohan @ start saiyan arc, to after training with king kai to landing on namek etc you see a natural progression in muscle size and development in line with the timeline, round lines could not possibly have the same representative effect as angular lines - could it?
"Huh? Oh no! Now it's... the... Z Daggar!"

The style from 82 through to about 1991 looks the best. The art doesn't change much and there is never a bad moment in his drawings at this time. I always look back at his art from any point in this time span for reference or to drool over. ;)
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

This is my favorite illustration by him (http://www.junkiemonkeys.com/wp-content ... yama_1.jpg), but his Saiyan-Namek arc art was definitely my fav, the colored battle-worn Super Saiyan Goku was GOAT lol http://z.mhcdn.net/store/manga/214/22-3 ... 1393817723

My favorite art style is from his work during the Freeza and Cell arcs, hands down the best. I much prefer his more straight-style over his original rounder style, it never really clicked to me.

DBZ ended after the Frieza Saga.

I'd say Freeza arc, right before things got too straight. If it's the straighter style, I only really like how Kazuya Hisada handles it, Yamamuro makes the characters look too... geometric if that makes sense. Goku's face is triangles and squares... not to say other animators don't do that too.

I would say his style during the Neko Majin era was my favorite.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

You really sound like a broken record, huh?

Personally, I think his styles are all great. He's the man of details and proportion. His Boo arc stuff is very rushed, but other than that, his art is very good. Like all the other posters have been saying, his art has evolved to match the tone of the series. I doubt Perfect Cell would look good with earlier style.

I really think his art style on Kanzenban covers would be good for all arcs from DB to end of Z.

I just love it that much!

I have no problem with the rest, actually, his Neko Majin era looks really nice! I dig it.

Not a fan of Tori's new style though. Prefer Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru at this point (who I believe just did the artwork for Xenoverse?)

No. He never did any designs for Xenoverse. These artworks are your typical promotional work done by unknown artist. These arts are too plain to be Nakatsuru's work, although I do like that purple haired female Saiyan model.

This would be Nakatsuru's work:
