Yup. Filter has definitely been removed.
It's certainly seems weird listening to the filtered version now that I've been accustomed to the re-dub.

Sailor Moon's Viz remaster isn't as bad as FUNimation's cleaning on the Dragon Ball Z Season Blu-rays but honestly, it's like the lesser evil of the two (SM remaster > DBZ remaster).

Sailor Moon - R2I DVD

This is a pretty shitty job Viz has done to "remaster" Sailor Moon on Blu-ray and this also looks like somewhat of an waterpaint, too.

Sailor Moon's off the list for me, I'm not going to be supporting this crappy release.

Well, that actually is a watercolour painting but I see your point. The missing lines on the fence at the front are very poor. Worries me that things like that would be persistent in other areas of the show.

You're also looking at a streaming service and comparing it to an uncompressed DVD. Again, apples and oranges. While I do agree it's pretty scrubbed looking, wait until high-quality sources before complaining that it's almost as bad as the Season Sets. Jeez.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Meh, as long as it isn't cropped, that SM release is fine by me.

Yeah, the Dragon Ball/Z footage on streaming services looks blurrier and brighter as well, so it's definitely not an indication of the final product.

Has anyone got a good collection of scans for season 4 yet? :) I always look forward to them when we get a new release. :P
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

This is an 80s/90s animated all-ages show that was popular amongst kids. It's not some potent super weapon that might fall into the wrong hands that we have to protect from evil.

Thanks. Looks pretty decent for an automated remaster and certainly a lot better than the Orange Brick #4.

Do these have a hint of grain in them? I'm looking at the sky and it does not seem to be as flat as the other seasons

Here's an interesting comparison, a while ago I took screenshots of the Level sets from the remastering featurette and compared them to the Season 2 blu ray.
The results weren't pretty
They seem to have gotten better with Season 4

Which brings up the question. Did they cheap out a bit on season 1-3 knowing they would be sold cheaper?

Though masters that they have could be better, but Season 4 doesnt look to bad. I'd almost get this and Majin Vegeta arc..maybe

If you look at the level sets screenshot of Goku it looks very soft even with the Level sets remastering process. The quality of the season sets depends heavily on the quality of Funimations source material. If I had to make a prediction I would say that Seasons 7-9 which looked pretty good on the orange bricks will look great on this Blu ray release.

True, but looking at Level 1.1/1.2 compared to Season 1, if it looked like season 4, then it would not be as bad (with the grain since it seems season 4 has some grain like the later orange bricks)

If the rest of the blurays looks like season 4 or better, I wouldnt mind it as long as we dont have weird panning issues like when Goku went Super Saiyan

Man, watching this makes me wonder why does Goku miss all the action?
First he was dead in the Saiyan Arc. Then he was hospitalised in the namek arc. Then he was injured in the Freeza arc. Now has an illness in the andriod/cell arc. Then he dies again.

He misses all the action to build suspense.

Initially yes it worked. But then it got to the point where it was getting ridiculous. In a way it took away from the suspense as you knew the Z warriors wouldn't win and that Goku'll eventually arrive and after a 4hr battle win.
