Nope this site hardly ever posts news on the English dub.VegettoEX wrote:Which website? Kanzenshuu?Mewzard wrote:I wonder when the website will be updated about the news of Kai coming to Toonami. Figured it might not be through the holiday weekend, but I'm surprised nothing was posted today.
An existing dub coming to another network is not really something we would post about.

Re: DBZ Kai coming to Toonami
Gotta admit, I kind of wondered about whether it would be posted or not, since I'm pretty sure I remember it being posted about when the show first came to Nicktoons...but I can see the difference there. Back then, it was flat out the premiere of the show, dub or otherwise, on English shores in an official capacity. That would carry more news-worthy weight than it just now being ported to Toonami.
Granted, I still think it merits posting myself, but eh, it's not my site, not my decision, so there you are.

It's the only Dragon Ball-focused website I've gone to since...well, many many years (back in the Unrivaled and Planet Namek days).VegettoEX wrote:Which website? Kanzenshuu?

I do appreciate the post though:
http://www.kanzenshuu.com/2014/05/28/dr ... fall-2014/
I know it's not your primary focus (being far more fans to the original version), but to the kind of fan I am, it's been the news of the year thus far for me (at least until a US release of Battle of Gods/one of the older specials, or a new movie is announced).
Kai is what I always wanted from when I discovered what was removed/changed from the original: a more accurate, better acted dub with the proper music (while still keeping the voices I liked).
Despite my odd preferences (well, I suppose they're odd, if we go by Youtube DBZ fans...), I've been a site visitor/podcast listener for many years (at least longer than the 5 years I've been podcasting, since your podcast really made me want to podcast about my own nerdy fandoms). I always appreciate what I can get from this wonderful site (with a far preferable community to my experiences in GameFAQs >_>).

Just like to clear up a few things here.Hellspawn28 wrote:I think that was a random one time thing back in 2008. I think the last time Toonami played DBZ was DBZ Movie 12 and 13. Before that, it was the Black Star Dragon Ball arc of GT in early 2005. Ultimate Uncut was not on Toonami since it was around 11:00 PM on weekdays from what I can remember.
1. DBZ's last run on Toonami lasted from April 7th, 2007 to March 22nd, 2008, running episodes 140 through 180 during that time. Before that, it was off and on during the summer of 2006 with episodes from late Namek and Garlic Jr.
2. Movies 12 and 13 aired during late 2006.
3. Toonami did air some of Ultimate Uncut dub after it finished its 10pm weekday run, airing from October 15th, 2005 to January 14th, 2006. They got 9 episodes in, then switched to showing the Saban dub for 4 weeks before the show was pulled until that summer.

That's why I stopped watching. Despite owning the series on DVD/Blu-Ray, there was something nostalgic about staying up late to watch InuYasha.KentalSSJ6 wrote:Funny how that works. I'm not really a fan of Kai or the English Version so I wont watch, but I'm glad that Toonami fans will get to see it I guess.

Re: DBZ Kai coming to Toonami
Alright, at the risk of the possibility of this topic getting off topic, I figured I'd post this.
There has been some speculation as to why FUNimation and Toei Animation decided to go with Toonami for broadcast, as opposed to continuing their relationship with Saban Brands on broadcast for the Vortexx. Ultimately, we now know our answer:
Traditional Saturday Morning Programming Ends This Fall as Saban Brands Pulls the Plug on the Vortexx
Truthfully, I'm not surprised, as I had speculated something was happening to the block, given Vortexx would be a no show at the Licensing Expo, Dragon Ball Kai would not go into the Buu arc in the Fall, and ultimately the move to push the show on Toonami got announced.

Subsidiaries are based on their location, not the origin of their parent company. I.EBlade wrote:The Westwood dub aired on the UK Cartoon Network, but the company itself is still American. It stands to reason that the American Cartoon Network was still technically their client for the project.TheBalishChannel wrote:That was most likely a mistake. So in regard to the mysteries wrapped up in an enigma surrounding that particular production, nothing will surprise me anymore.

Walt Disney of China=Chinese company
Production IG USA=American company
Capcom of Canada=Canadian company

Re: DBZ Kai coming to Toonami
I was hoping they'd air the Final Act eventually, Toonami had interests in it back in 2012 so that was kind of disappointing and I also don't get Neon Alley although it is a new channel.Kid Buu wrote:That's why I stopped watching. I'll probably catch Kai if it's at a decent time.
Re: DBZ Kai coming to Toonami
Yeah that came as a shock it was taken off prematurely, but I'm sure InuYasha: The Final Act will come to Toonami one day seeing as it is still one of Viz's most popular Shonen franchises (they already have both Naruto series on there and Bleach is on its way out).
You can also watch it legally for free on Hulu, but I think they only have the sub so I bought the Blu-Rays to watch it dubbed. Although the sub isn't bad, I prefer the dub because I just need Paul Dobson's Naraku. Such an awesome performance, especially

Re: DBZ Kai coming to Toonami
I doubt they will get Final Act. Its only 26 episodes and yes I know they got Shingeki No Kyojin and that 25 but SNK is arguably the most talked about anime/manga franchise of the past few years and even recently outsold One Piece in half year sales.Kid Buu wrote:Yeah that came as a shock it was taken off prematurely, but I'm sure InuYasha: The Final Act will come to Toonami one day seeing as it is still one of Viz's most popular Shonen franchises (they already have both Naruto series on there and Bleach is on its way out).

Shows like Sword Art Online, Black Lagoon, and Blue Exorcist are on there. Final Act may not be on as early as AoT, but I'm sure it'll get a later timeslot at one point.

That didn't stop them from getting Deadman Wonderland, Casshern Sins, Samurai 7, Tenchi Muyo! GXP, Sword Art Online, Space Dandy, Blue Exorcist, and Black Lagoon.KentalSSJ6 wrote:I doubt they will get Final Act. Its only 26 episodes
Really, length is not a factor in whether Toonami gets a show or not, they've even talked about being interested in airing OVAs with only a handful of episodes (which, in the case of Fooly Cooly, they already have). The deciding factors in if Toonami gets a show are if it's licensed and dubbed, if they can afford to air it, and if the Toonami staff/fanbase are interested in the show.

Re: DBZ Kai coming to Toonami
Out of curiosity, do you mean you have Final Act on blu-ray? I've been keeping an eye out for the first anime in BR form but I don't think it's gonna happen. And even if it does, it might end up being a Japan only thing, like what happened with the old Gundam series. (I'd love me some Wing and Zeta on blu ray....but I'm a dub fan so that ain't gonna happen. Not legally anyway)Kid Buu wrote:Yeah that came as a shock it was taken off prematurely, but I'm sure InuYasha: The Final Act will come to Toonami one day seeing as it is still one of Viz's most popular Shonen franchises (they already have both Naruto series on there and Bleach is on its way out).

It is always refreshing to see IY still has fans though.
Oh and in regards to the tip about Hulu - a quick warning for anyone interested in buying Inuyasha Season Sets The "repackaged" sets released in 2013 are missing some OPs and maybe EDs. I saw it on hulu that at least the first OP, "Change the World", was removed and replaced with Inuyasha's regular theme. I checked this years ago so I can't remember how many other OPs were gone but I know at least one other was. I can't speak for EDs because I don't subscribe to hulu so I only got the free sample of the beginning of the episode but it seems to me that Viz just lost the license to some of the songs and didn't bother renewing them.
So if you are gonna buy the DVDs, try and look for older releases, generally around 2005-2008 or 2009 I believe
Re: DBZ Kai coming to Toonami
I have the repackaged sets. They still have the correct OP and EDs, it is just the Hulu version that messes it up.
And yeah I have the Blu-Rays for Final Act, they look great.
Sadly, much like most anime, it was a bit pricey, but worth it. It'd be interesting to see the first series on Blu-ray, but my wallet wouldn't be able to take it.
EDIT: The movies are on Bluray too.

Re: DBZ Kai coming to Toonami
Oh wow, really? That's interesting to hear about the OPs and EDs... I made sure to get used copies of the old sets of Season 1 and 2 because I was worried about that but I guess I don't have to be anymore. Not that it isn't worth it to try and get the old sets - used IY seasons on ebay go for about $10 when you get them in Auction so I might just keep doing that. I don't care about my stuff being New as long as it's complete.
I only really want Seasons 1-3 and 7 anyway. 1-3 because it had the best episodes IMO and 7 because it comes with extras like interviews with the dub cast. After I get those four, I'll get 5 and 6 someday but they aren't a priority.
Yeah i know about the Movies being on blu-ray but...uh...I don't like any of them if I'm honest. I have yet to see a good "Anime Movie" outside of one or two of the DBZ films.

Re: DBZ Kai coming to Toonami
What, the Band of Seven arc isn't a priority? But Jakotsu is an awesome character. I got the new releases because slim cases take up a lot less room.
Season 7 comes with an interview with the subtitled cast. I think the last disc for every season comes with the dub interview, but I know for sure its on the Season 7 one.
We should probably continue this on PM....since it has nothing to do with DB at this point.
