The vast majority of the Naruto cast is uninteresting. Absolutely no idea where this is coming from.Bullza wrote:Naruto's a little dragged out at the moment but overall it's a far better manga than Dragon Ball as is One Piece.
If Kishimoto wrote Dragon Ball, everything would be needlessly convoluted under the guise of depth. DB is very open about its simplicity.

Yeah, Naruto is one of the worst things to grace Shonen Jump and gain popularity. 90-95% of it is just absolutely terrible. What promise it did have ended with the Chunin Exam arc, and just dropped like a rock (I've read every chapter, but it's just been a wait to see this trainwreck stop so I can finally look away).
Dragon Ball is actually fun and enjoyable.
Other mangaka could do DB good as well...Kishimoto is not one of them.
Let's give DB to Tetsuo Hara and Buronson (creators of Fist of the North Star), and see how crazy things get. It'd be far more serious, but also insanely awesome. Goku in a post-apocalyptic future kicking ass across the planet, leaving exploded chunks of people in his wake.
Or perhaps Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro of Toriko fame. Just having Goku and co in Toriko's setting would put a whole new smile on Goku's face (plus, I love his action scenes and world development). Goku fighting across a planet full of monsters that are both powerful and delicious. He'd never want to leave.
Could give it to One and Yūsuke Murata (One-Punch Man), it would be both amazing looking, and quite entertaining. Really a fun combination in terms of writer and artist.

Hmmm, care to explain why? the best arc and the highest point in Naruto -IMO, of course- is Sasuke's retrieval arc. some people might say that it's basically "just fights" but no, Kishimoto build up everything to this moment where Sasuke leave the village. that's why it was all "fights" cause everything else was already build-up in the previous arcs.Mewzard wrote:Yeah, Naruto is one of the worst things to grace Shonen Jump and gain popularity. 90-95% of it is just absolutely terrible. Re: If a different mangaka wrote Dragon Ball
Which is why Naruto is better. Dragon Ball is pretty the same old throughout, there's hardly any depth, all the fights in DBZ are pretty much the same thing there's no variety, it follows the same formula over and over, character relationships get no attention, there's no surprise twists, it doesn't matter when characters are killed off because they just come back etc.B wrote:The vast majority of the Naruto cast is uninteresting. Naruto has the vastly superior story, it's fights aren't all exactly the same and the one with the bigger power level wins, the settings are far more interesting and not 90% wastelands, it's characters aren't as likable but they have depth and back stories, it's characters don't all become useless because their power levels are lacking.
Naruto and One Piece far surpass Dragon Ball, though it is in turn much better than other series like Bleach and Toriko.

Did you really have to derail yet another interesting thread idea with your same old 'I hate DBZ and yet here I am' bile, thatdbzguy? For crying out loud already...
Also, is it really so impossible for people to discuss which authors/movies/etc. they like without totally taking a dump on the opinions of others? I'm really starting to think it must be...

That person would be me in 2012. As you may know in Korea I read lots of manga and watch lots of anime thanks to older bro. Yeah they were bootleg(not bootleg versions but bootleg the way he got them) but it was still over a 100 i've read or seen by the time I was 6. C'mon now. That point is invalid towards me. Like to hear your excuse now.

So you think DBZ, a story with insanely poor writing, is better than the likes of Berserk, FMA, One Piece, etc.?TheGmGoken wrote:That person would be me in 2012. "Depth" doesn't save Naruto from being terrible though. I'll take simple and entertaining over "deep" and awful.Bullza wrote:Which is why Naruto is better. Few Naruto characters ever manage to matter at all beyond Naruto and Sasuke, except for brief instances (which is a problem, because Sasuke is the worst character in Naruto and what drags most of it down in my eyes). Also, that's a key problem: The characters aren't all that likable, it's not even close.
Bleach and Toriko are far better than Naruto, at least on the merits of being entertaining if nothing else (Bleach isn't that good, but it at least has some amusing moments). Toriko, meanwhile, is the single best thing running in Shonen Jump right now (just surpassing One Piece and joining my top 10 Jump manga of all time list). It's got the most interesting world by far of all the series running in Jump (and is just building all the time), has some amazing fights (especially in the Cooking Festival Arc, which was just the best arc of a Shonen manga in the last decade), and many creative and interesting foes to face.
I will agree with One Piece though, it is awesome (definitely worthy of the love it gets).

Re: If a different mangaka wrote Dragon Ball
Naruto isn't deep, naruto pretend to be deep and fail so hard to the point that it's super funny. just look at what happened to Pain in the end? talk no jutsu. or let's not talk about the terrible villain, Obito.. "it's because you killed Ren lol"
the only good, well-delivered deep story in Naruto is the uchiha's story. if you want something REALLY deep.. watch FMA, Berserk or Monster.

Re: If a different mangaka wrote Dragon Ball
What year you gained the internet? I'm curious because I've never seen as much hate for Dbz as you imply. I used to lurk on any forum I could find so please tell me. Where are these haters. I see less hate for Dbz than Naruto. The fact you ever insulted people for liking Dbz is horrible. The amount of Hate Dbz get is about the Same as any other Anime. What makes your opinion so much higher than ours?thatdbzguy wrote:To be fair, even most of those "n00bs" don't think DBZ is better than Naruto or One Piece. Re: If a different mangaka wrote Dragon Ball
thatdbzguy, have you seen Naruto, or is that just what "the people" have to say about it? You are entitled to your opinion but I'm just curious.
As for the comparison, well I consider both original Dragon Ball and Naruto Part 1 as my two favourite Shonen Jump series. I have a few problems with DBZ, mainly the Buu Arc. With Shippuden, I wasn't a fan of how the story bounced between "Fight Akatsuki arc to Sasuke Pursuit arc and repeat" but there were still some awesome fights like Jiraya/Pain that made it awesome. However, the War doesn't even have any great battles, so now I'm losing all interest.
So basically, my thoughts on both series are: Love Part 1 and like a few things about Part 2 until the final arc.

Yeah, you sure know a lot. if you really have that experience you're been talking about, you would know that Naruto is the most "Trolled" anime in the history. so there's a lot of "your hardcore" anime guys that bash Naruto and give DBZ a higher score in their book. you obviously know a lot.thatdbzguy wrote:To be fair, even most of those "n00bs" don't think DBZ is better than Naruto or One Piece. The series is always topping manga sales chart, with Sailor Moon being its only real competitor.
