Is the Japanese audio any better on the double feature Blu-rays than the double feature / movie pack DVDs?

Japanese audio samples from the Singles:
Return my Gohan!! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xn7v5no0-9s
Super Warrior Defeat!! I'm the One Who'll Win - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNMD4rWJy7I
Dragon Fist Explosion!! If Goku Can't Do It, Who Will - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0WzJSiBk8M
The experience sure would've been far more enjoyable if the audio was as good as it was on the last film.

Re: Singles Vs. Movie Packs - Which is the better release?
Sounds like the low-quality optical track. I can't imagine the other FUNi releases sounding that much better, due to the source (and especially compared to DBox the movies DVDs).dbboxkaifan wrote:Japanese audio samples from the Singles:

I personally prefer the Double Features.

Re: Singles Vs. Movie Packs - Which is the better release?
You know, as much as I like the Double Features, I think the movie single would've been really good releases if they only had better encoding. It was kind of ridiculous how much macro-blocking was on those early FUNimation DVDs.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Yeah, does anyone remember the final energy struggle between Cell and Gohan on the single disk release. It was micro blocking so bad I thought my disk was malfunctioning. On topic, I think that the funi releases of the movies are a tad dark. It might just be their print, but the bluray release isn't half bad.

I had a similar experience, but I thought mine was a bootleg!TheMajinRedComet wrote:Yeah, does anyone remember the final energy struggle between Cell and Gohan on the single disk release. It was micro blocking so bad I thought my disk was malfunctioning.
I can see what you mean about the darkness, but I find the other ones too bright lolTheMajinRedComet wrote:On topic, I think that the funi releases of the movies are a tad dark. It might just be their print, but the bluray release isn't half bad.

I was watching Return my Gohan!! the other week and near the end when Garlic Jr.'s castle collapsed, there was some sort of weird, really loud audio screech. Did this happen to anyone else? I can't find anything on it online so I'm wondering if I got a bad copy or something...>_>dbboxkaifan wrote:Japanese audio samples from the Singles:

My copy of the movie five-pack has that problem as well, so I assume it was also there on the double feature release. Here's the clip with that error: https://www.dropbox.com/s/99ebsej38v1sx ... __E__-.mpg. It sounds like physical damage to the source copy. Movie 13 has an issue with a clicking/popping sound that appears faintly during the whole film; It's most noticeable during the Toei logo: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nzg0jrol03o3f ... __E__-.mpg.Mr.Saturn99 wrote:I was watching Return my Gohan!! the other week and near the end when Garlic Jr.'s castle collapsed, there was some sort of weird, really loud audio screech. Re: Singles Vs. Movie Packs - Which is the better release?
Thanks for those samples, LostTimeLord.
I can't believe how inferior and muffled the Japanese audio for the 13th film is because the Single sounds pretty clear and nice for a change of the usual.
FUNimation also kinda screwed up the Japanese audio for the Dead Zone UUE, i.e, 1) silly sound effect Gohan falling and 2) sound effect of the rocks falling to the water which seem to be from the English FUNimation remastered dub.
However, the Pioneer has the Japanese audio without any of these two problems but the picture quality is inferior.

Ultimate Uncut Edition - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKxXcPYJvrQ
Pioneer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUmx3vSab9Y
Audio: Pioneer > UUE > DF
Picture: UUE > DF > Pioneer

Re: Singles Vs. Movie Packs - Which is the better release?
Ok, I read/skimmed through but didn't really find an answer to the question I have. Which release is closest to the Dragon Box release? The singles? Are all releases, "uncut?"

Re: Singles Vs. Movie Packs - Which is the better release?
Video quality wise, the remastered are the closest as they are in widescreen and have better compression. But they have darker colors/saturation and don't have Japanese title cards or Japanese text on the opening credits (some movies do) nor at the ending credits.Catamaran wrote:Ok, I read/skimmed through but didn't really find an answer to the question I have. The singles are in 4:3 and have some compression/ghost issues (namely deadzone). They also have darker colors/saturation but offer Japanese title cards and such as an alternate angle (The pioneer DVDs just used Japanese title cards and Japanese text on the opening subtitled.
I hope that helps. It can get rather confusing
Re: Singles Vs. Movie Packs - Which is the better release?
Yeah, I myself am still confused as to which versions are the best. But maybe I'll just point out what I want.
I would prefer if it was 16:9 as it was originally presented theatrically, from there, the best in terms of quality and sound.
Although from what I understood from the thread you either get the singled or the doubles, there are no more version, the others are just reprints of the same. Right? Or did I miss something?
If I get the boxed deals, what will I be missing in terms of quality?

Re: Singles Vs. Movie Packs - Which is the better release?
The repackaged boxes of the Double Features are a lot more accessible to anyone, and cheaper too though the audio for Dead Zone & Wrath of Dragon as shown it's not very good on the DF sets.
If I were to get the Widescreen version I'd wait a little longer to see if FUNimation releases the US Dragon Box: The Movies, or just stick to my Singles.

Except they're a bit too dark or too bright and the cropping could've been better.eledoremassis02 wrote:The blurays look awesome!JEFFMAN219 wrote:How are the blu ray double feature movie packs?
I'd rather if FUNimation re-remastered the films again (DB too if possible) in HD with better cropping and for the picture quality like the Level Blu-rays were.
Oh yeah, fix the darn Japanese audio tracks too for Z#13 and Z#1, for example.

Re: Singles Vs. Movie Packs - Which is the better release?
What is that "better cropping" thing you are talking about? All the movies were framed with center cropping in mind, so logically there is no better framing unlike when you crop the TV series.dbboxkaifan wrote:Except they're a bit too dark or too bright and the cropping could've been better.

You can call FUNi's widescreen framing somewhat "better" than that of the Dragon Box because it has more image, though.
