Enma-daio/Yenma?
Enma-daio/Yenma?
Why is Enma-daio translated as Yenma or Yemma on the DBZ dvd's?
Jord doesn't have a avatar because the combination of Jord and a equally cool avatar would cause the universe to implode.

I think it's Enma Daio on the Subs, Enma sound similar to Yenma, I'd say they got it right in the dub.

Yama, Yemma, Enma... depends on the language it's being spoken in and translated from.

The characters also speak aloud Ii-shinron, but the subtitles read Yi Xing Long. Part of it is the translator's perogative, and part of it is also knowing what exactly the names are, where they come from, and how they relate to both the language being spoken in and read in.Jord wrote:But is the characters on the sjow pronounce it as Enma? shoulnd't the subtitles display the name Enma instead of its Chinese counterpart?

Well, if you're going to call the main character "Son Gokû" (Japanese version of the Chinese name), one could argue it would make sense to keep "Enma" as well.
"Shenlong" and the various "-xinglong" are something else altogether, as they kept their Chinese pronunciation even in the Japanese version.
