Watched the SMC trailer like 3 times now; so excited.

I actually did like the monster-of-the-week pace of the original anime (which I'm also watching via Hulu), but it doesn't make me any less interested in seeing what a more manga-specific version of the anime will be like. I have read the manga, so seeing the closer-to-the-original-art character designs of SMC isn't too surprising.

I'm kind of sad that Tuxedo Yamcha won't be returning, but such is life.

I also think it would've been neat to have had Luna's VA's daughter voice Luna in this iteration considering they're both active voice actresses (Keiko Han and her daughter Megumi Han), but I realize she's probably too busy atm voicing Cure Princess to voice Luna too.
On hiatus.

I'm sure most will associate Yamcha with Tuxedo Kamen; Pegasus Seiya has been recast a few times but most still associate with him with Furuya.

So, seeing as how we've got a Sailor Moon thread, I wish to know. Did the manga sexualize these 14 year old characters the way the anime seems to? I mean, the short skirts are obviously there, but, I also hear that the author thought the anime added a "slight male perspective", and that it was her editor who told her to put them in sailor uniforms.

Um, the closest thing to that question is probably this:

Q: Differently than other shojo, Sailor Moon is followed by a lot of boys. An exception to the rule?

A: Yes. The senshi are very sexy, and boys like it. In Japan, moreover, boys are quite weak and they search for a strong partner. They want to be dominated, and the senshi are ready to do it.

You do realize she is married to the author of YYH right?

Ok, that right there is perfect. She can't tell what a 14 year old looks like...and neither can he! It's a perfect combination!

Ah yes, Kenshin. Who can forget about him :D ? He aged pretty impressively, especially considering how much fighting and pain he's been in!

The animation looks iffy. The first shot with Usagi in her house and seeing Luna looked great but the scenes after that looked lower quality, the streams of her hair dont look very smooth and a bit too fluttery.

Edit:Honestly, the animation for this doesn't look as good as the Sailor Moon back then. Pretty disappointed. :?

But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

Amazing how the drawing style looks very close to the manga now!

But if it's not a monster-of-the-week series anymore, following the manga plot, there aren't that many occasions when the heroine and her partners transform.
Will they care to animate a special transformation sequence if we see her transform like 20 times at most in the whole series? (in the manga, the transformations pretty much "pop up entirely" like turning Super Saiyan, you don't see a special effect for the gloves, then the boots appearing in their own special way, then the ribbon, etc...)

So I don't know if they'll make a special choregraphy sequence with special effects all over (which was a pretty iconic gimmick in the first anime) or if they'll make the girls just go "BOOM - transformation complete" like the manga.

Though the music was a definite win.
Still in wait and see mode. Feels like it doesn't lend itself well to a light hearted tone, like, I can't see Usagi and Rei bickering in that style and it coming across as funny.

Well, with all respect to Ms.Takeuchi, she did draw really long legs, and when girls matured as series progress, only their legs got longer :D

Looks like we'll just call this Mamoru "Fake-Yamcha" instead of "Yamcha"

Nothing in that interview surprises after hearing years back that there was a debate as to how short the sailor costumes skirts were going to be, and Takeuchi was one wanting them shorter.

... Are Dragon Ball fans of all people really complaining about Sailor Moon allegedly sexualizing teenage girls? I don't recall Sailor Moon ever getting her tube top ripped off or being sexually harrassed by a 400 year old man or wearing a bunny suit for half a story arc.

Not that the occasional panty shots in Sailor Moon weren't problematic of course, but they would be even more problematic if they actually looked 14.

You do see Minakos boobs in the Sailor V manga, but it is more of a purity scene.

Like naked Vegeta in Goku's vision during the Freeza battle.

Broad strokes; you don't know this forum. A significant portion of us find some of Roshi's antics among the most unfunny things in the series and are usually vocal enough about it to create debate topics about it that hit triple digit numbers of responses, often multiple times a year. I'd say we're certainly qualified.

It's as I always say. Just because you really like a certain culture, person, place, or thing, that in no way means you have to like everything about that culture, person, place, or thing! It's like how Teamfourstar are very clearly HUMONGOUS fans of Dragon Ball Z, yet are not afraid to mock it repeatedly for it's shortcomings and silly things.
