Top 3 Movie Fights
Most of the top fight threads don't include movies (that or the movies are just subpar in the area) so I thought I should make one.
My list
1. SSJ Goku and SSJ Vegeta vs Metal Cooler
2. SSJ3 Goku vs Super Janemba
3. SSJ3 Goku vs Beerus
Not really sure about the order (and haven't watched the movies in months) but those are definitely my top 3. What are yours?

Canon is Jaco, Dragon Ball except for EoZ, Dragon Ball Super anime and manga (both are separate canons)

Re: Top 3 Movie Fights
In no particular order:
Goku VS Ginger & Nikki
Wonderfully choreographed and a ton of fun. We needed more sword fights like these. It's great to see the Nyoi-Bo being used again. It really felt like we lost some of Goku's charm once he ditched it. All of Goku's scared reactions and the overwhelmed look on his face throughout are a little out-of-character, but it's endearing and I can kinda see young Goku acting this way in a pinch. I can overlook it. Heck, I can even enjoy it. It's a wonderfully animated fight that's intense, silly, and just bliss to watch.
Goku, Kuririn, Tenshinhan, Yamcha, Chaozu, and Gohan VS Tullece's Henchmen
This is who I want when I think of my ideal Dragon Ball fighters. I love this group. Screw Vegeta and Piccolo. This particular fight makes my list of "most favorite" as well as "most disappointing." We don't get to see how the fights end, they're too short, and I don't like the idea of Goku rescuing Yamcha and Gohan rescuing Chaozu. The humans deserved a win here. Having the henchmen all get KO'ed by Goku is just ridiculous. But what little we do get to see is awesome. I love how everyone splits up and takes on a henchman, firing off their signature attacks (and staying pretty evenly matched with their foes for a while). If the humans had been allowed to win, this would have probably been my favorite movie fight by a wide margin.
Goku VS Janemba
I'm talking about Fat Janemba and Transformed Janamba. The whole thing is just great. The animation, the choreography, the brilliant sound design, everything. It manages to be a spectacle while being funny at the same time. It's the main reason why movie 12 is just so wonderful.
It's interesting to note that for all of these scenes, there's no background music playing. There's a little during the Janamba fight, but it's almost all silence. It really allows the voice work and sound design to shine.
Runner Up #01: Goku, Arale, & The Ga-chans VS TaoPaiPai
This is so short, but so sweet. It's great to see such a serious character like TaoPaiPai completely out of his element. Even Goku, who's usually so carefree and oblivious, has no idea what to make of Arale. The choreography of Goku's scenes is almost a mirror image of the manga version, and the fight is brilliantly animated. It's awesome that both Goku and Arale get to deliver the final blow.
Runner Up #02: Kuririn, #18, Goten, & Trunks VS Bio-Broli
What is his real name, anyway? Is "Bio-Broli" just a dub thing? Anyway, I love the choreography, the animation is wonderful, and the laboratory provides a unique setting for all the action. Goten and Trunks get most of the best bits, but Kuririn gets a few well-animated shots as well (just LOOK at how he forms that Kienzan!). Movie 11 never gets any credit, but I've always loved it, and this fight is a big reason why.

1.Goku KK, Goku SSJ against Ascended Cooler.
2.SSJ3 Goku vs. Final-form Hildegarn
3.SSJ Goku(Godly powered) vs. Beerus
But these can not surpass SSJ2 Gohan vs Super Perfect Cell's Kamehame struggle from the anime.

If you include BoG then the Goku and Beerus fights are easily the best, the others dont even begin to compare.

The fight was great aside from the CGI moments. The hand drawn segments are wonderfully fluid and its not more of this -TheGmGoken wrote:Really? That fight was horrible. Id much rather prefer this -

Its not just recycled punching and kicking for 3-4 seconds.

That's your opinion. That Broly gif was actually one of my favorite fight scenes haha. Especially when Piccolo got in. I found Beerus vs Godku boring. Not even CGI the whole thing was horrible. But curious what's your favorite fight for movies

Re: Top 3 Movie Fights
1. SSJG Goku VS Beerus (excluding CGI scenes) for the beautifuly animated hand drawn scenes.
2. Goku VS Metal Cooler for this bit of animation mostly -

Just like how they slide across the planet constantly trading blows.
3. Goku VS Fat Janemba for how brutal Goku gets in SSJ3, punching Janemba so hard he caves in on himself.

As always with these types of discussions, a simple list is not an acceptable post. We want to not just know the "what" but also the why. Tell us why they're your favorite fights. Bring us into your mind! Convince us how great they are!

Goten and Trunks vs Bio Broly(Underrated fight in a horrible movie)
Gohan vs Broly
1. Very showing of Goten fighting ability and Trunks acting Vegeta. The punches was impactful and the epic zoom of Goten after Broly dies.
2. Garlic henchmen gave Goku an old school fight. Bringing back the Pole was awesome. Power pole extend! I love the sword.
3. Something about this makes me smile
Re: Top 3 Movie Fights
I don't get what was so great about the super Jenemba fight, I thought it was the dullest thing dbz ever did.

Re: Top 3 Movie Fights
1. Son Goku & Piccolo VS Garlic Jr. & his henchmen.
- The music, the fluid animation, the choreography. Everything comes together and makes these battles amazing. Also props for the final use of the Nyoi-bō in a fight. The video link below is one of my favourite scenes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYwfCOzoegU
2. Son Goku & Vegeta VS Metal Coola
- The choreography in this fight is fantastic, awesome moments and an awesome score. That scene where the Metal Coola army appear is iconic in my opinion. Another scene I liked is where Son Goku just punches through Metal-Coola.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsYpar98KAM
3. Broli VS Everyone
This is pure carnage. As much as I dislike the character, I just love how Broli is this unstoppable monster that tears through the Z-warriors. I love the double clothesline he does when Trunks & Gohan charge towards him. Another scene I enjoyed is where he basically uses Piccolo as a football. Not to mention the scene where he literally tanks the Kamehameha wave.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vqwiZzuT2Q
Special mentions
- Son Goku VS final form Coola from the fifth DBZ film. Purely for Coola tanking the Kamehameha wave and proceeding to punch Goku.
- Son Goku VS Beerus I really like the sequence in Battle of Gods where Goku fights Beerus with Flow's Hero playing. It's absolutely epic, especially when they're trading blows in the upper atmosphere.
- Son Goku vs Dr. Wheelo. Just purely for the Kaioken x3/4 sequence alone. Masako Nozawa is badass in this scene, it's so epic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zj-QIhkGBxU
Also this scene is just flat out hilarious and painful to watch.

Hm, my 'Top 3 Movie Fights'...
Runner-up: Piccolo VS Sansho (DBZ Movie 1): Yeah, weird choice, that's why it only gets the runner-up spot. I don't know what it is about this scene, but I always find myself rewinding it and watching this fight scene over and over. I just love Piccolo's ruthlessness and no-nonsense approach on this fight. That massive flurry of punches he does at the very end always impressed me. To steal a phrase from the old 'Abridged Movies', it wasn't a "wheel of bitch-slaps" type attack. There was weight behind every punch. Oh, and the music.
#3 Goku vs. Janenba (DBZ Movie 12): Very cool looking characters fighting with some very cool choreography. A lot of cool, screenshot-able moments. This whole fight scene is just, well, cool. Swords make everything cool. And hey, speaking of cool...
#2: Goku vs. Coola (DBZ Movie 5): OK, I'm a little biased due to nostalgia, but this fight had feeling. There was a real intensity behind the first half of this battle- that first punch to the face always had me going, "Ooh, it's on now!" And yeah, Disturbed.
#1: Goku vs. Beerus (Battle of Gods)
As much as this film is about humour and spending time with the characters, to me, this is what gives the film its replay value and I know I've harped on this a lot in the past. While there is no real urgency or weight behind this fight, I really feel like this part of the movie manages to fake it really well. I've said it before, but the good stuff starts after Goku and Beerus land underground. The choreography in that section of the fight and the intensity of the music made this feel battle feel as meaningful as any of Goku's previous bouts. And you know what comes next...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnGyh1uczc8
Just going through it frame-by-frame, the sense of speed and motion is amazing; the smoothness of the way the characters glide through the clouds (Bukujutsu, indeed) while still managing to maintain an impact behind each collision is incredible. It only lasts about a minute, but there's so much going on. It kind feels like they're saying, "All these years you've been watching shock-waves and looped animation, here's what it's actually like to experience one of these fights." Then there's that little exchange between Kuririn and Kame-Sennin and at that moment it really occurs to me how far Goku has come. He went from training with those two, to essentially becoming a God. I don't if that's what they were going for in that scene, but that's what I got out of it (still haven't seen the movie with subtitles, by the way) While the part with the insert song is what cements it as one of the most memorable moments in the franchise, the stuff with Beerus' attack at the end is pretty damn good as well. There is a real sense of desperation and the whole look of the shots from Earth are just perfect. This is what you pay for when you go to see DBZ on the big screen. The setting is suitably epic and the stakes feel high.

Re: Top 3 Movie Fights
I'm not sure about my top 3, but this one would definitely be up there. My favorite part is Cooler charging through Goku's Kaio-Ken Kamehameha, followed by his "Ima plant me a dumbass tree!" moment.DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:

And yeah, Disturbed. The Japanese version also had a cool piece of music playing in this scene, but y'know, nostalgia. The second half of the fight with Coola beating the crap out of Goku was also really well done. I swear the Kaio-Ken has never looked so good and there's also that really neat 360 pan around Coola before he backhands Goku in the face. Then the Super Saiyan transformation...I swear Toei has a thing with showing birds whenever someone transforms out of rage.
The hair looks really nice in this movie and I do like how the fight is concluded. Coola manages to salvage some pride and manages to avoid too much of a humiliating defeat, although Goku was able to squeeze in a fair bit of embarrassment in those brief hand-to-hand exchanges.

Horrible? It stomps all the others just on animation alone. It lacks recycled animation, it doesn't keep getting interupted and Goku loses for once.TheGmGoken wrote:Really? That fight was horrible. My other two favourites would be SSJ3 Goku vs Beerus and I guess Broly vs the Z Fighters.

Re: Top 3 Movie Fights
1. Goku and Vegeta vs Janemba
I'm defining this as everything from Goku's first encounter with fat Janemba to Janemba's stomping of SS2 Vegeta. Janemba uses a lot of entertaining and cool-looking abilities during the fight, and Goku gets pretty brutal in hand to hand combaI. I loved Janemba spawning another Goku, punching through portals, using portals to deflect attacks, breaking himself to dodge, throwing out cutting sword beams, etc. The animation's pretty top notch, and it's also one of the few movie fights that's not just a total beat down; Janemba's clearly in the lead after he transforms, but Goku can still briefly hold his own.
Vegeta's only in this fight for about twenty seconds, but seeing Vegeta get stomped is always entertaining, and I like the way Janemba took him out.
2. Goku and Vegeta vs Metal Cooler
Fast paced, good use of techniques, not totally one sided (at first), teleportation, teamwork actually working, Vegeta getting his ass kicked... what more could you ask for?
3. Goku and Piccolo vs Nicky, Ginger, and Sansho
Not much to say on this one. Well choreographed, well animated, sparing use of ki attacks, Piccolo actually getting something cool to do... just a solid fight all around.

Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

3rd: Vegeta vs Android 15, mostly because how fun this fight is, the way Vegeta allow #15 to take a drink before fight resumes make me laugh everytime
2nd: Trunks vs Gokua, i just really like when enemies use swords
And that ending with shadow figure of Bojack kicking Trunks...just great

Re: Top 3 Movie Fights
I agree with everything you stated here! Everything. Goku vs Ginger and Nikki and Goku, Arale, and the Ga-ichan vs TaoPaiPai were some of the best animated pieces in all of Dragonball! I mentioned it before too. If I was to write up my top 3 fights, I'd just be regurgitating the exact same thing MagicBox stated. However, I'd put Goku, Arale, & The Ga-chans VS TaoPaiPai in the top 3.MagicBox wrote:In no particular order:

I give Goku vs Ginger and Nikki my number 1 spot for selfish reasons: Dead Zone was the first DBZ tape I owned which has that fight on it. I'll never forget that echo they gave to Kelamis-Goku when he fires the Kamehameha. It sounds just so cool! This was back in the day when the Kamehameha was a big deal too so props for the dub doing it the way they did.
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada
