I'm glad FUNimation got the extended version (as far as we can tell). That way buying the theatrical version from Japan doesn't feel like a useless purchase.kei17 wrote:I bought it and don't really care. Ack, that's right, he did. I completely forgot about that.Valerius Dover wrote:Jason Douglas did voice King Cold in Kai, though.
He did great there, and I have no doubt at his ability to pull off the 'regal' side of Beerus...what...little there is...but that 'fun loving' side...hmm. Come to think of it, he's pretty fun loving in Rune Soldier. Maybe it's just something I'm having a hard time hearing in my head but will sound amazing in actuality.

Just got back from watching Battle of Gods in theatres today. I had already seen the movie, but watching it at the cinema is a whole new experience. And, of course, I went to support the great effort put into the licensing and casting. Plus, it was really quiet: we were only four, because it was the first session (4:30 pm) and more people came for the second (6:00 pm).

In short: the movie? Meh. The (Spanish) dub? Magnificent.

It looks like FUNi will be putting out the theatrical trailer for Battle of Gods later today, but as of right now you can view it via AnimeNewsNetwork!
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ann-tv/ ... -20/.75761
Huh, is it just me, or does Sabat's Shenlong sound different than it used to? Or has it just been too long since I've watched Kai? And that's definitely Ian Sinclair as Whis still and I'm pretty sure that's Jason Douglas as Beerus, and they both sound much better so far than they did in Battle of Z based on the clips I've heard. Also, for some reason, a...a lot of Goku's dialogue sounds like I've heard it before. 'I will...DEFEAT YOU.', 'Just go back to where you came from.', 'I am a Saiyan that was raised on Earth.' Are those lines pulled from other sources until the film's recording is fully finished?
And they would have to end on the CG fight, ack.

Wow i didn't even realize that they were even trying to make that Shenlong's voice (just thought of it as a background narrative), it's not just you, that definitely sounds way different. I just did a comparison of Shenlong's voice at the end of cell saga and there was more gargle in his speech back then, the sound was more powerful. In other news Sean Schemmel sounded great, i'm always very happy with his voice acting.Gyt Kaliba wrote:It looks like FUNi will be putting out the theatrical trailer for Battle of Gods later today, but as of right now you can view it via AnimeNewsNetwork!

Theatrical trailer for Non-US viewers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzmdKIS428c
That trailer was terribly put together. Just horrible.
Also, Beerus sounds absolutely wrong - both in pitch and delivery. Same with Shen Long; that was almost comical.
At least Whis is perfect.

I would like some elaboration as well, as other than the slight off-ness to Shenlong's voice compared to what Sabat usually does, and choosing to end on that awful CG section of the fight, I thought the trailer was fine.
I'm also liking Douglas more here than I did in Battle of Z, but I am still curious to hear how he's gonna sound in the more comedic sections of the film.

In my opinion the trailer was fine, yes i noticed Shenlong's voice was less appealing to what i'm used to but that's probably just personal preference and does not condemn the trailer. Like i had said hearing Sean Schemmel reaffirmed that i need to see this in theatres, i love his voice acting. On a side note one thing that AJAYLIKESGAMING got right was that Whis sounded wonderful.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I would like some elaboration as well, as other than the slight off-ness to Shenlong's voice compared to what Sabat usually does, and choosing to end on that awful CG section of the fight, I thought the trailer was fine.

Yeah, sorry. To be fair, on a second watch, I think it's more the terrible delivery hamming it up rather than the trailer itself being awful.VegettoEX wrote:Could elaborate on why exactly you feel this way?AjayLikesGaming wrote:That trailer was terribly put together. Just horrible.
However, it does feel entirely amateur, almost to the point that it felt fan made. The deep voiced Movie Guy, uh, I mean Shen Long throwing out some exposition with pounding drums in the background felt like I was watching Dragon Ball Evolution's opening again. The awkward clips in the middle of 'epic' moments before leading up to the incredibly cheesily placed, "how does it feel becoming a god?" line. It just seems so comically generic that I'm a bit taken a back.
I do think the delivery is a big part of that rather than strictly the editing itself. Having to use clips to create a serious trailer with acting that awkward is no easy feat.
Side note: Beerus' VA slips into an American accent every time he says 'god'. Very distracting.

Eh...I guess I can see the 'hamming it up' thing a bit, given how much more of the movie is comedic compared to the action, but it was pretty much a foregone thing that FUNimation was mainly going to focus on the latter rather than the former in it's advertising for the movie.
'How does it feel becoming a god' was pretty much verbatim in the Japanese script too though, wasn't it? Or is it pretty much entirely on where it's put on the trailer rather than the line itself that irks you? And as far as an accent on Douglas's 'god'...I'm not hearing it myself, but at the same time, this...is...an American overdub...so...not really seeing an issue with an American accent being in there either. It's all a matter of opinion of course though.

Was that Gohan's voice that said ''Lets kick things up a notch''? I thought he was going to bed dubbed by Kyle Hebert?

Just the placing of it. It's just one of those horrible trailer things where they have a 'mysterious' (or funny) line before cutting to the date the film is out. The first time i saw the trailer i thought that was someone else's voice in the background because it didn't match up with Gohan's mouth. Now i'm curious does anyone know whose voice this is supposed to portray and which voice actor that was?samuraix123 wrote:Was that Gohan's voice that said ''Lets kick things up a notch''? I think that was Hebert, just in a rather quiet moment for some reason. It sounds like him still to me anyway. It's probably a clip from elsewhere in the movie that they just slapped over that particular animation of Gohan.Careless Saiyajin wrote:The first time i saw the trailer i thought that was someone else's voice in the background because it didn't match up with Gohan's mouth. Honestly, though I don't really have too much problem with the trailer, I do think it was rather hastily put together. I think they might have had Douglas and Sinclair record the movie first since they were the new characters, and so that there would be more from them to pull for advertisement purposes. That's my theory anyway.
I noticed it, I was wondering if anyone else would have.TheAldella wrote:I'm surprised that you people haven't noticed. EVERY ONE OF SEAN'S LINES IS FROM KAI.
Ahhh, all right. I can understand that then. The accent thing though, I'm still just not really hearing, but I'm not the best with that kind of thing admittedly, unless it's just blatantly, blatantly obvious.AjayLikesGaming wrote:Just the placing of it. I guess, as Schemmel only just finished recording Goku yesterday, that they would be using placeholders for the time being.
