I am from the USA and my favorite is DB then DBZ then GT in that order. I love that original Dragon Ball feel and gags and the entire experience of it. Bringing a little bit of that magic back into Z in my opinion is great. This is my favorite Dragon Ball Z film because it offers more then fighting, features a little original Dragon Ball magic and finally because it has an impact on the series meaning that there are consequences. We now know of a new saiyan power and of different universes and gods. I love this movie! The trailer may misrepresent this movie as just another action film a little bit you may be right but let's just hope America can handle it and enjoy this film for it's unique merits, i can't wait.FortuneSSJ wrote:"Basically you have Toriyama's vision of Dragon Ball, followed by Toei's, and then also followed by FUNimation's. Someone said this in anime news network, I think it is Kanzenshuu user B, doesnt matter that I agree with this.
They are making this move look far too serious. People that still didnt watch the movie will expect the typical DBZ movie and will be disappointed. Like some people already said Battle of Gods is more DB than DBZ, meaning more gag less action. Personally I loved the movie but like a lot of fans i was expecting more action too.
From what I see on internet, GT seems much more popular than DB. Is DB loved in USA?!
Seems like to me a lot of people just ignore it.

So, what's the deal with the theme songs, exactly. Where did it say that FLOW didn't want to use the Japanese versions outside Japan?
What do you think Funi's going to do about the opening theme in particular? It's only been kept in 6 movies, previously and not the series.

Why are we inferring so much about the voice acting quality and the overall dub from a trailer? Considering all of Sean Schemmel's lines were from kai and nobody else besides Beerus, Whis, and Shenron had more than one line...what is there to even really opine about? Seems insanely premature to be saying anything.

I was wondering that, too. They're not likely to play a Japanese opening theme for theaters, at least. En Engrish version probably isn't good enough either. I need a source for this rumor saying they don't want their songs dubbed, though.Fizzer wrote:Wait... Are we using the songs from FLOW?! They were one of the best things about the film...
They've only played Movies 6 and 12 in theaters before, and that was with the American rescores. I have no idea what they're going to do with the opening. Cha-La? Engrish Cha-La? English Cha-La? Remix of American opening theme? I have no idea.

Flow dubbed the songs for the international market themselves. They have popped up on foreign releases, as a result. Supposedly even the Japanese audio track has had the songs replaced with the English equivalent.Valerius Dover wrote:I was wondering that, too. Well tbf (from what I recall) the Japanese trailers were like this hence I was shocked by the outcome of the film.Fizzer wrote:I really dislike the way the trailer misrepresents the film. Many who would actually enjoy the film will pass it off as a bunch of action-packed nonsense and not see it, while those who won't like it will go see it expecting 100 minutes of fighting and leave the cinema before the fighting even starts. A more balanced trailer would have been far better for the film. You really don't want most of the audience to come out disappointed.
Aslong as FUNi get folks in the seat I don't think they're going to worry about disappointed fans. And since it's DBZ it's going to sell on BD/DVD regardless.

Ok, that is just plain lame. The Japanese audio track has always been untouched in other Dragon Ball releases. I really hope that's just a mistake that Funimation is going to correct or something. Because that makes no sense.ChibiGoku wrote:Flow dubbed the songs for the international market themselves. They have popped up on foreign releases, as a result. The version of Chala Head Chala I saw in theatres was the Engrish version. I'm not going to lie: I hate it. I kind of like Kageyama's Engrish version, but Flow's just sounded wrong: I couldn't understand half of the song. In fact, the only two lines I'm sure I got perfectly were "Cha-La Head Cha-La" and "Heno heno kappa" (which was left in Japanese for some reason).
If they didn't want their songs to be dubbed into other languages, they could have forced the international distributors to keep the Japanese songs.

It could go both ways. Kai had the unfortunate situation of its opening and endings being dubbed over so its possible the insert songs of BOG may get dubbed over as well, which I really hope they don't because the english dubbings of the songs in Kai were well...terrible (aside from Vic Mignogna's and Brina Palencia's covers of Dragon Soul).

So with casting of Ian Sinclair and Jason Douglas, thought I'd ask to guys who are familiar with their work, thoughts on them? Ian Sinclair I like as he's pretty cool as Gin, Space Dandy, and looking forward to more of him as Brook. Jason Douglas, while I've never seen Excel Saga, so no clue on Il Pilazzo, was ok as Admiral Aokiji on One Piece.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but I liked the dubbing of the theme songs. I feel they've always done really well in that department, and it's a shame they never dubbed the original Z themes. I'm just a bit curious as to what they're going to do with the theme song. They can't dub them, so they'll probably use FLOW's English versions. I just really hope this doesn't carry over into the Japanese language track like other foreign releases.KentalSSJ6 wrote:It could go both ways. "Unfortunate"? Why? The original is still on the disc. For people who WANTED dubbed sons, like myself, they were welcome.KentalSSJ6 wrote:It could go both ways. I just find it inconsistent. Soul Eater and FMA Brotherhood were dubbed around the same time Kai was and the openings and endings of both series remained in Japanese for both language tracks. I just don't see why they would bother giving the openings and endings of Kai a english dub when other series being dubbed at the time had their openings and endings stay Japanese.KaiserNeko wrote:"Unfortunate"? You find it inconsistent? Dragon Ball's opening and ending 1 were both dubbed, as was GT's opening and all of its endings. It's actually more consistent for a newcomer.KentalSSJ6 wrote:I just find it inconsistent. I just dislike english dubbing of Japanese songs in general really. Unless the song itself has "engrish" parts to it (Arise by Origa comes to mind, sung in 3 different languages), I prefer they just keep it Japanese and not dub it in another language.TheAldella wrote:You find it inconsistent? Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I think there's a fine line. If the opening or ending track is a Japanese pop song, I think it ought to be left alone in any case, but if it's a bespoke theme, such as Dragon Soul, I think that the right course of action is to dub the vocal part into the target language. I mean, if you're already dubbing the dialogue, and the theme song is directly linked to the show itself (as opposed to being an art object in it's own right that was written for another purpose other than opening the show, such as Dan Dan ) why stop at just translating the dialogue?KentalSSJ6 wrote:I just dislike english dubbing of Japanese songs in general really. I think a wholesale approach is the best way forward in any case, as there's nothing more ill-fitting than a half measure. I think you either dub the whole thing, specific musical cues, themes and all, or you leave the whole thing in its native language. I mean, where else do you draw the line? What about songs that the characters sing within the narrative, like Usopp's 'Sogeking' theme in One Piece, or Flay Alster's songs in Gundam SEED?

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I just noticed this on the Cast List on Funi's BoG website, and rushed over here to see if it's true. I'm not sure what to think about this, cuz honestly I very much enjoyed both actresses' take on the character. I guess my only real beef with it would be the inconsistency of it. Though i do wonder which voice they will use for Buu Kai.batistabus wrote:The BoG website lists the voice acting cast for the FUNi dub. It lists 18 as being voiced by Meredith McCoy (Z voice of 18) instead of Clinkenbeard (Z Kai). I just asked Colleen on Twitter if this was accurate, and she confirmed that it was.
https://twitter.com/ccarrollbeard/statu ... 5961252864
I'm not sure why they went with her again. For some of the salty Z dub fans? Maybe they thought she was better suited for an older 18?
Also, on the same cast list, i noticed that Oonlong's original VA is back, too. Even though he's more of a minor character, i HATED his Kai voice, so i'm glad to see the original come back. Though, admittedly, i kinda suspected he might, since I once heard them talk about Brad Jackson's departure and return to Funimation on a One Piece DVD commentary, and ever since then i had hoped he would eventually return to playing Oolong again.
Everything else on the cast list looks to be expected. Most of the other recasts from Kai are still in place, while the Buu Arc-exclusive characters are still played by the same VAs from Z. The only ones i'm not sure about are Pilaf & Co., since i honestly don't remember who voiced them in the old days. Other then that, everything looks fine, and i assume we'll be seeing this same cast for Buu Kai.
