Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

Everything else on the cast list looks to be expected. Most of the other recasts from Kai are still in place, while the Buu Arc-exclusive characters are still played by the same VAs from Z. The only ones i'm not sure about are Pilaf & Co., since i honestly don't remember who voiced them in the old days. Other then that, everything looks fine, and i assume we'll be seeing this same cast for Buu Kai.

Chuck Huber was Pilaf, Chris Cason was Shu, and Julie Franklin was Mai. In this case the former two are reprising their roles, while Colleen Clinkenbeard is doing Mai.

I also just now noticed that Hebert's back as the narrator again. That's... definitely a curious choice. I liked the new guy they had in Kai a lot. But then again there's probably a good chance they won't be having Hebert do the wrestling-style announcing that he did back in Z, and will will instead have him do something a bit more subdued and normal.

You guys forget that while this is Hebert back as the narrator, this is still the post-Kai Sabat as the director (I would assume, anyway). It may be Hebert doing a more reserved tone for the narration this time, only time will tell.

I also just noticed there's a character missing from the cast list, albeit an extremely minor one - Marron. She was Meredith McCoy in DBZ, so since she's back, I can only assume she'll be reprising that role as well, but...

Doesn't Marron have no lines at all besides a giggle or laugh while chasing a balloon with Goten and Trunks?

Wait, are you talking about the fact that she doesn't seem to have aged at all (and in fact almost looks even younger than she did before), or her outfit? The mention of Goten and Trunks makes me think the former, and with that I agree; the latter makes me think you're talking about her outfit though, which I don't really get.

Yeah, I mean her not aging that much. I mean, she even grew a nose at the end of the story, lol. With Bra I mean both her outfit and her body. She does not look like she is younger than Pan and I am sure in GT it was also thought she wouldn't be. I also thought Bra is older than Pan when I saw her in vol. 42. She looks older in GT however and her outfit is not very helpful when it comes to that which is why I think she was just thought to be older at that time.

Quick question that may have already been answered at some point. I was reading through the even more detailed analysis of the extended version that's now up on the site, and I got to this part -

Piccolo’s faint is followed until he hits the ground, at which point Buu gets up again. Chiaotzu (shows his concern for Tenshinhan, who comments that Beerus is unbelievable. Gohan tells Kuririn to get everyone to run away, and he obliges. Buu attempts to hit Beerus again, but the god continues to dodge, and then grabs Buu’s antenna.

During this part, do we happen to see Gohan change his clothes at all, or is there still a slight inconsistent moment with him suddenly being in his gi rather than the Saiyaman outfit or his previous outfit?

It's nice to see that Brad Jackson is back after all. I always found him to be the best English Oolong. It's also cool to see Meredith McCoy back as 18, I didn't expect that, and I actually do prefer her over Colleen Clinkenbeard's take.

I just had a thought while at work earlier today. If FUNimation did indeed get the extended version, which it's seeming pretty likely that they did...and seeing how fearful Toei and most other Japanese companies are of reverse importation...do you think it's possible that it'd be DVD only?

Let me elaborate further. I'm assuming that our eventual release of this movie is going to be a DVD/Bluray combo, since that's what most of FUNi's stuff is nowadays. And I assume that if they can, they'd probably want to somehow put both versions of the film on there, just to have an even better selling point ('featuring the original version of the movie PLUS the extended cut!'). What are the chances that you think Toei would require them to put the extended version on the DVD disc, but leave the 'standard' version on the Bluray one?

Yes, she has a nose later which is why I wonder when she starts growing. But I still don't understand your Goku and Chi Chi comparison. Chi Chi is as old as Goku and smaller than him, yes. But Chi Chi was shown after like 6 years again and she has grown. And an even younger child normally also grows and most of the time it can be notoced faster than later so I don't understand you comparison as Marron was very young in the Boo Saga. I am trying to connect but I cannot see what you mean so please explain that.

Chi-Chi made her last appearance as a kid in the anime in Episode 123, just 3 years before the Tournament.
