TBH I'm disappointed that they decided to continue the rumble style trend of having 2v2, for some reason 2v2 always gives me the hint that the quality of depth combat will be held back in favour for it. Most likely strategy will be nulled out.
Zephyr wrote:The fandom's collective fetishizing of "moments" is also ridiculous to me. No, not everyone needs a fucking "shine" moment. If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

I don't wanna hold my breath just yet, there are a lot of ways to make a 2v2 (or even a 4v4 if you want to be that guy) both deep and fun, however those are different from the traditional definition of fighter. I'm going to take the Gundam VS games as an example because to me those games are perfect in making a 3D arena fighter and making 2v2 really technical. You have a simple melee button (every direction making a different combo string, so 5 strings in total, sometimes more due to inputting directions mid combo), a weapon attack, a subweapon attack, a special melee and a special weapon, which is a lot of offensive options. While that seems pretty simple, you can mix all of these thanks to it's movement system either by side-steping cancelling or boost-dash cancelling. The result?

Of course Namco realized how well this works and hired Spike to emulate it with Zenkai Battle Royal and J-Stars VS, but I don't think it's quite there yet.

To me those gifs look like solid gameplay, i have full faith in a brawling beat em up 2v2 style XENOVERSE. You raised great points about how the Gundam plays and how this applies to XENOVERSE.

2015 release, as expected. Last gen versions are cheaper than the current gen versions, which is nice. Genre: Beat 'em up. Slightly confused about that one.
I was so excited when I read your comment, but then I went to Amazon and saw the prices.. £42 and £49. I would've pre-order if they were more like £32-£39 as is how much I usually pay for all new games.

Then there's the issue that Sony yet again has changed the PS3 theme cover for the third time which breaks consistency once more, and I completely hate it. I guess I'll end up getting it on 360 first and then on PS4.

I don't want to pretend I have PS4 games when they're really just PS3 games. I get that Sony's trying to unify all three into one but I just don't like it.

I believe the blue label is exclusive to North American PS3 games.

Really? That's great. Many thanks, Prime.

I read this a while ago on Kotaku and expected it to be the same for all regions, but only US is getting this, phew.

Casuals don't understand it because they just buy games and that's it, but I myself am a collector and like having everything organised and so everything needs to be consistent, had Europe gotten that lame PS3 blue logo I'd have to split the collection yet again for the third time.

I completely understand where you're coming from! It's the exact same with me. I remember when they changed from the Spiderman logo to the sleeker black logo, that pissed me off because it made my collection look extremely out of place. I ended up selling all of my Spiderman font logo games and just keeping the black, sleek logo ones. The new blue ones (I'm from the US) really don't match but I'm just glad that the spine is still the same and not completely different (besides the black -> blue and the region 1 changing to ALL). If the change had been more of an aesthetic change over a color change, that would have really sucked.

I remember the "Spiderman" Typeface, thought that was cool. First PS3 game was Burst Limit that had it. But most of the games I own have the normal black PS3 logo. Yeah I can see how the Blue for PS3 would kinda mess things up considering how PS3 is now last gen and most of our games, don't have the Blue. Also forgot majority of people here are "collectors". I don't have the bread for that shit lol.

GvG is one of the best, if not the best 2v2 3d fighting game out there. It's almost 90% based on zoning with projectiles though, which I think conflicts slightly with the spirit of DBZ. Still, I wouldn't say no to a skin of GvG with dragon ball characters. J-stars tried to do a similar thing but had more of a melee centric focus and was awful because of it. Also one of J-stars biggest problems was there weren't enough cancellable moves in general. It made things seem stiff and unintuitive.

Heck Bandai Namco should just hire Byking (the gvg developers) to do it.

It really depends on way you play, because there are units who are more melee-based uni vice-versa. My problem with J-Stars (and dare I say Zenkai Battle Royal and the Sparking series and its variants, altought I have not played the former) is that the movement system is a tad too slow for what the people depicted in it are able to do, dashing in J-Stars feels like a chore most of time and unresponsive and I believe it would have been better had it been more flexible with changing directions and all that.

Agreed, flexibility of movement is key for games like these. You never want to be fighting with the controls and always want a number of options at your fingertips. The melee centric suits were made kind of useless in Full Boost due to the nerfing of melee tracking and range. They're fantastic in Extreme Versus vanilla though, it's true.

Did I seriously just see someone complain about the PS3 theme font? Selling games because the font doesn't match the others on your shelf? Buying the game on another console because it doesn't have the font style you want?

Words can't even begin to describe how laughable that is

I honestly don't get that either but to each their own. Everyone has some little osd like thing they do or prefer. Take me for example...I wear my socks inside out I don't know why but they don't feel comfortable the so called "normal" way. If that font thing bugs someone who am I too judge that person as nit picking.

Well, some collectors can't stand having different editions so ultimately they'd rather sell it than keep it. It's what I've done to Tenkaichi Tag Team "Essentials" returned it back a few years ago because of the cover and then this year I got with the real cover.

Us collectors like to have everything organised so it goes by PS3 gen-1 > PS3 gen-2 and PS3 gen-3 (US only) to have all the spines looking consistently good.
