This entire scenario started with you accusing others of blindly hating FUNimation. You keep repeating that you "get it," but seemingly don't like it when someone points out it's FUNimation's fault.

Funimation is giving a-lot of the fans what they want? (Remember that poll? & the sales of these sets.) they're making money which it's what a company is supposed to do. You're upset that Funimation isn't giving you and others and even myself what we want. Yeah I understand. I just thought and assumed like an Ass that people was giving Toei a pass on cropping Kai for TV. NOW IF THAT'S NOT THE CASE AT ALL! Then I apologize. People blame Funimation for doing this and releasing it 16x9. But really isn't it the fans fault? they keep buying it?

Ahhh I thought I added in ''Toei a pass for TV and would give them a pass if they cropped the Z series since were being technical'' sorry about that.

Most fans don't understand nor care about things like aspect ratio. FUNimation shouldn't be giving them a choice. They should be acting professional and giving the show a treatment filled with the respect it deserves.

Fans wouldn't want this garbage if it weren't offered to them in the first place.

Some may go 'huh, why isn't this widescreen?' and then without a doubt someone would explain it to them and that'd be that. It's only because FUNi decided to crop the show that there's now this stupid divide.

I mean, I kinda disagree with that bud. My brother and many other people that I know hate having the black bars on the side of their big nice HD TV's. so when they released the orange bricks my friends loved the fact that it filled their entire TV. Now...Why they couldn't/wouldn't just zoom in. Who knows!? lol but I believe there is a demand for these just for the simple fact that a-lot of people don't like a 4x3 image on a HD TV. I'm not one of them. it doesn't bother me in the slightest if I watch it cropped or in 4x3. I would prefer it in 4x3 but life sucks sometimes and I take what I get. lol I know I would hate if my Universal Monster movies got stretched and cropped 16x9 like DBZ. lol

This is why I bought season one used  I can see what the hoopla is about without supporting Funimation. Plus it was a dollar cheaper 8)

Also, I never understood why people hates the black bars...the only time I did was when we were cropping 16:9 to 4:3 and many film makers hated it because it ruined the original point of the shots (and here we are having the same argument for the reverse aspect ratios)

My brother will not watch anything on his HD TV if it doesn't feel the screen. it aggravates me a-lot actually.

They even do it to wide screen movies too. I was watching Ghostbusters on AMC (which would have black bars on HDTVs) and they zoomed in so there were no black bars. There were some times when you could not see all the Ghostbusters in the shot :?

However, I hope we get a continuation/reboot of the level sets one day. If this is the last Z release then..well..not much we'd be able to do. But it's FUNimation.....whooo knows what there gonna do. They seem to like to jump the gun a lot with Z

Has anyone got a cover though for Season 5 Blu-ray? I can't find it on google images. I was just curious what the back looked like.

Since we was on the subject of Kai. Why is the Japanese release looks slightly better than the US? Why can't we have that same exact quality?

I'm leaning towards getting the BD season sets but I'm not sure egh
Buy the Kai Blu rays unless you really want to own the original DBZ in which case I would go with the Season Blu rays over the orange bricks.
Or splurge and get the Japanese Dragon Boxes :D

But yea, for Z at the moment the Blu-rays are the best way to go and I'll probably be laughing a year from now when they release the ultra perfect edition in 4x3.

I already have the dragon boxes and like the quality of the Blu-rays but the cropping is the only issue I have other than the sets being a bit too bright but nothing I couldn't fix if I decided to rip them and throw them in my dropbox folder as well as my many nas boxes in the house, seriously my laundry room became the nas room!

If these weren't cropped? How would you folks feel about this release then?
Also have the covers for S7-9 been released?

The lack of grain and saturated colors as well as the camera panning still would make it a mediocre release.

Image quality is still garbage. Smudged backgrounds and blurred line art. No thanks.

I'd be a lot more tolerant of the Blu-Rays if they were still 4:3. The blurring and over-filtering still sucks, the colors don't really bother me overall, but at least we wouldn't have to worry about part of a character's head being cut off.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

I'm a little surprised the bonus features aren't getting talked about as much as they are. Is there something anybody was hoping for that we haven't received yet? I personally would have liked to hear some commentaries. And not like the one Chuck Huber and Chris Cason did for DBZ movie 01; that was just horrible. One of the Yu Yu Hakusho commentaries featured an audio engineer explaining his work on the series and it was easily the best, most insightful dub staff commentary I've ever heard on an anime release. I was blown away. Let's get some more stuff like that.
Could you provide some context, maybe? What am I clicking on? You've done this before and I think a few people already said the exact same thing to you. You didn't even give your own thoughts on what you posted.

Anyway, the appeal of this whole "post a YouTube review so we can make fun of it" thing is lost on me. There are always going to be people like this. What are we accomplishing here?

... Wow, I've sounded so grouchy these past few days...

The Retro Goons says: "Which if you want the 4:3 ratio, go for the Dragon Boxes. But also if you want the 4:3 ratio, go fuck yourself. Why do you want 4:3 ratio? Just go with the 16:9. These are both 16:9. You don't need the 4:3 ratio. I'm not gonna start an argument on that or anything." Wait, what? :wtf:
