I don't think zero filler + 2 chapters per episodes is possible.

Depends on the content of the chapters. If we're talking about chapters which are mainly depicting action shots, then you can easily put together an episode that faithfully renders 3 or 4 chapters worth of content, but with dialogue heavy chapters with a strong narrative focus, the episode pacing will have to be adjusted accordingly to make the whole thing work as an animated medium - otherwise the result will be an unintelligible mess (see most 13 episode series' adapted from Manga in the current Anime season).

It's a balancing act, it really is. My ideal scenario for something like One Piece would be to halve the number of episodes shown over a year to 26, to be aired in two series of 13 without filler material, with suitably paced narrative content and exciting, fast paced action shots. A guy can dream, eh?

Fair enough! I only read One Piece so I just went under the assumption that it was generally better. I've never seen any examples from One Piece that vary as much as a Yamamuro episode vs. an Uchiyama one, for example.
Oh, the animation in One Piece is so inconsistent it's not even funny. Not just between episodes (though I don't think I've ever seen an episode directed by Naoki Tate where I haven't seen tons of people commenting on how the animation looked completely different) but within a single episode too... Case in point, This is from the latest episode. This is also from the latest episode. One doesn't exactly have to be an expert to notice how the second shot is far better drawn than the first.

I would have like them to do DB and OP like they are doing Naruto right now: take a break from the canon episodes by showing filler arcs, and when the time for the canon episodes comes, go at a full speed. It may be annoying for someone that is watching it weekly, but it won't be annoying at all when someone is watching the whole thing at once, since he would be able to skip the fillers. One Piece at this point (1 episode = 1 chapter) is boring both if you are watching it weekly, or if you are watching it all at once.

Seeing how I recently got a bit overly bored by the One Piece anime and put it on hold for a few months, and then tried to catch up and found that the stretch of episodes I had been putting off were suddenly considerably more enjoyable marathoned, I'm inclined to disagree. And whatever the case... the One Piece anime is nowhere near as slow as DBZ at its worst.

Hmm, I was thinking to try that. Maybe it will be better that way...

The thing that bothers me the most of the possibly future "One Piece Kai" is that the first 150 or so episodes are not in wide screen.
I'd like them to reanimate the entire show because of that and because the first three or so arcs look really dated compared to the newer stuff. I'm sorry but i'm a consistency whore, it just bothers me.

Just for curiosity, would Toei be able to upscale and widescreen the first One Piece arcs? Maybe the quality wouldn't be that great compared to the purely made HD new episodes, but at least it would fix my OCD.

I totally agree. In fact, One Piece is a joy to marathon through. Meanwhile, when i marathoned Naruto i had to always have a filler list open, check what is filler, what is half filler etc. And i had to waste my time skipping things every 20 EPISODES!
Not to mention most of their fillers created plotholes, and everytime the animators announced another freaking filler arc after only one month of canon from the last, my blood boiled in rage.

So yeah, i'd rather take slow pacing than filler fests, at least i'm still watching canon stuff albeit slowly, instead of watching pointless wastes of time.

Naruto's attitude to filler is the worst. Sticking a lengthy flashback filler arc right before a climactic battle is a reprehensible practice. I've never known such a frustrating practice to be employed in a long running anime.

That's what I do. I batch watch One Piece every 6 weeks.

While the flashbacks are extremely annoying, you can skip them in while watching them, and you lose nothing from the plot. You can't skip the dragged fight between Freeza & Goku though.

This is why I prefer the way Naruto is done compared to the way DB(Z) & OP are done. The fillers in Naruto are skip-able, while the fillers in DB(Z) & OP are not most of the time.

They already did a widescreen/upscaled crop of early OP — that's what 'One Piece Special Edition' is — and it looks like total garbage.

Yeah, it was totally lazy on their part. What they seem to have preferred to do as opposed to remaster footage is to just create newly animated specials that retell early story arcs, such as 'Episode of Merry' and 'Episode of Nami'. That way, they can use modern looking animation in any future 'flashbacks'.

Off the top of my head, I remember that Brook's flashbacks of Laboon were just the old 480 footage pillar-boxed with some tacky static One Piece branding, which kinda emphasised the point as to why they needed to do something.
